Strictly costumes. Also, the costumes don't have to mimic any particular character, they just have to fit the period. SD would help to showcase a shield for a costume.

To commemorate the release of the first Avenger to the silver screen later in the month, join C.A.P.E. for commemorative Golden/Silver Age costume contest!
The Golden Age
The Golden Age of Comic Books was a period in the history of American comic books, generally thought of as lasting from the late 1930s until the late 1940s or early 1950s. During this time, modern comic books were first published and enjoyed a surge of popularity; the archetype of the superhero was created and defined; and many of the most famous superheroes debuted, among them Superman, Batman, Captain America, Wonder Woman, and Captain Marvel.
More detailed information on the Golden Age can be found here: Golden Age of Comics
The Silver Age
The Silver Age of Comic Books was a period of artistic advancement and commercial success in mainstream American comic books, predominantly those in the superhero genre. Following the Golden Age of Comic Books and an interregnum in the early to mid-1950s, the Silver Age is considered to cover the period from 1956 to circa 1970, and was succeeded by the Bronze and Modern Ages.
More detailed information on the Silver Age can be found here: Silver Age of Comics
Rules:
-One Entry Per Server.
-Age of Heroes takes place at Williams Square.
-No late entries accepted.
Judging Details:
-A panel of judges will be chosen by Myrmydon to judge this event. Participants are urged to utilize costume choices, emotes, and auras in representing the Age of Heroes.
-Powers Usage is limited: We understand that Issue 16 has brought with it a variety of power customization opportunities however we have found that powers can affect other players unintentionally and can also diffuse attention away from other character components. We would prefer players limit their use of powers and utilize them for Aura purposes.
-Be very careful in your power choices and avoid overusing multiple powers.
-Powers that affect other players will result in automatic disqualification from the event.
-Please contact a C.A.P.E. Representative if you have any questions about judging details.

If these people come to Champion to play with us on Champion, it makes them part of Champion. That's pretty much all there is to it, in my opnion.

Quote:Arabic sure does sound better than what we use, I'll give you that.Had to come back to this. Try Arabic. There is singular, dual and plural, so the plural form represents 3 or more of something. But if there is ten or more, you use the singular again:
bint - girl (Silas, if you're in England that should amuse you)
bintayn - two girls
khamsa banaat - 5 girls
ashreen bint - 20 girls.
And in some cases you reverse the gender of adjectives vs their nouns. And 'beard' is feminine.
Yeah. I'm done. -

Quote:This is something I've discussed a lot with my coworkers. They complain that English is really difficult, precisely for the reasons we've come across here. Idiosyncratic pronunciation, having several words which mean technically the same thing but have very subtle differences in connotation/meaning.
I disagree. I think English is easy to learn, difficult to master. Mechanically English is a relatively straightforward language. English only has two 'real' tenses, four if you include past perfect and present progressive. German has 4-6. English has one word for 'the', German has three. English nouns don't have gender, many languages do. Oh, and the words for 'the' in German also change based on the gender of the noun.
Once you learn the pronunciation rules for German, you can say pretty much any word correctly, even if you've never seen it before. This is not the case for English. With an intermediate grasp of English you may pronounce all kinds of words wrong, but you can speak technically correct English pretty easily. You can't do that with most continental European languages.
So cast my vote for English as easy to learn, difficult to master. I'm definitely glad I didn't have to learn it as a foreign language
Yes, but you don't speak English, just that Queen's English slang... -
What we have in our base doesn't hold a candle to those three. Congratulations, guys. The Pillars of Might Library has always been my single favorite room in any base that I have seen in this game.

Quote:Please forgive me for not responding to the majority of your post. It was largely just you repeating yourself and being unnecessarily inflammatory. I'm genuinely sorry if anything I wrote in my last post offended you and caused you to respond in the way you did.
I'm getting annoyed, perhaps it's starting to show.
What are these "lot of things" you reference?
How exactly would they be "thrown out of whack"?
Because right now all i'm hearing is "following rules for the sake of rules".
A reasonable man knows when to break rules as well as follow them.
Hell, I would have been all for you guys showing up, since it would give us some more perspective. Unfortunately, I am not the one making decisions in this league, so I cannot help you, however, I look forward to test my mettle against you guys in the future. Just got into PvP again since I13 and I'm starting to like it, actually. -

I had thought Ultraa was going to do this (since he volunteered and all, the slacker...), however, I'll see what I can come up with.

Dropping? No, we are not. Losing people who can't take it or cannot commit? Yes, there has been quite a bit of that, however, we are working with things to make up the difference.
We don't care if we lose every single match; those of us left just want to play and try to get better at it. We'll never learn anything if everyone gives up. -
Quote:The irony behind this post is sadly two fold. First with stacked teams, everyone but ours and Spynes team has 4-6 people I'd consider Veteran in the sense of experience. Spyne doesn't have them, and we have more. That being said Artic with his 5 ish vets played to an 8 - 8 draw against us last night and managed to win their other 3 matches.
The second part was, the way the draft went down, allowing the teams to be as they are today. There were people, who if picked for their ability and experience would have helped to balance things out even further, but instead they were passed over in the first two rounds for friends (which there is nothing wrong with, if you aren't looking to be competitive) and allowed to go to the teams looking to strengthen their roster even further in the 3rd and 4th round.
As a second separate point, I'm pretty sure you can ask anyone on our team which was the most fun match last night and they'd tell you it was against Artic's team because it was the closest match. Boot camp was great for holding hands and teaching everyone the basics, but now that you have teams out there who are throwing together legitimate spikes its time to take a few lumps (like every single one of us has done in the past) and try to learn and better yourselves. This is a learning experience in the sense if you want to competitively PvP you are going to need to play some semi competitive teams.
Rather than looking at how stacked teams might be, see it as an opportunity to challenge yourself to be better.
As a final point, and I'll post this up on CAPE, because this is a learning league if any team has any questions from key set ups, tactics, or just how to play a toon or would like help setting up some practices and drills for their team I'll gladly try to make some time in the evenings to hop over and see if I can't help out. Because like I said, things are fun when they are competitive, not when you are just rolling a team.
Oh, I'm not one of those that cares about the idea of stacked teams and neither does my team (Team Spyne). We're all aware that to competitively PvP, we are going ot need to play vey competitive teams. And we're looking forward to it, truth be told. You don't get better by playing people of your skill level, you get better by reaching beyond that, and those of us that are still here are definitely working toward that. -
Amazing Brute. Its been a longtime.

Quote:From what I have seen, this is definitely the case.Everyone for the most part is patient and appreciates what we're all trying to do.
Quote:The next league (Sign ups for that start mid august) will be limited to 4 ready-made players and to draft from there... When starting out in this type of thing, four is a lot easier to gather than 8 for the new people.

Quote:My understanding is that the "heyday" you mention on test ended with I13, which is the system we are using now. Comparing the two feels akin to comparing our characters Post-I5/I6 to the ones we had Pre-I5/I6.Not at the level there was on test in its heyday, that's for sure (and I'd never count myself among the skilled, etc.).
Quote:Just enjoy this league for what it is, a bunch of people having fun on Sundays for a few hours. -
Quote:Shay's feelings seem to be felt by my team as well, actually. This is exactly what a lot of us were hoping to accomplish. If only 1 person feels this way then in my book its been a success and worth all the poop we've had to put up with.
mad love shay, mad mad love. <3 -
Quote:Allowing an entirely seperate team to join generates more competition then dispersing players amidst already existing teams.
There is no difference between allowing them to seperate and join different teams and allowing those same players to join as an entirely new team. Especially since you have not begun to do official matches yet for ranking.
Therefore, you are being restrictive.
Actually, I believe the fear is that there are enough "stacked teams" in the league already, so adding in another one isn't desireable.
With this league being a continuation of the boot camp we had, I would have thought that teams made up of half and half vets to new people would have been a much better option, but it didn't turn out that way. Ah well.
