  1. This thread has been quite informative. Created a rad/kin a few weeks ago and was hoping past 20 something magical would happen. May have to ditch the lvl 18 guy and choose a new primary.
  2. Culex took the figures from your reply converted them into a Percent to indicate chance of failure.

The grouping is pretty darn close on average.

The charts are not things of beauty, but Overlord & Associates LLC might be using them for an evil presentation.

(Quickly done with limited software on a work laptop)

    3D Chart - Flat Chart
  3. First off Culex, thank you for spending so much time and effort on that spreadsheet.

A very well assembled and meticulously crafted document indeed.

I was using it much as you had suggested to run some numbers. And actually in the way you have depicted before I made my post.

On my end there were two notions. One was just some peace of mind that I wasn’t wasting time on a flawed power set choice.

The other was to determine if there were any quantifiable reasons for forum rants and comparisons.

A made up example this something to the extent of “my Ice/Ice Brute is way more viable in the end game than your Elec/Elec Tanker.” (Where upon I have comically transposed archetype power sets.)

Again thanks for pointing out that in the end the enemy damage resistance isn’t a dramatic issue.
  4. Kept seeing references in posts to how some damage types become more resisted later in the game. This plus the dev tweaks ensures that I’m never quite sure if a character that feels good in early levels will be as viable later on.

Had the notion of a graph depicting the how over the course of leveling the effectiveness of damage types vs. the average enemies encountered (standard PVE) and their resistance.

Granted I have found some great information such as Culex's Post.

Didn’t know if such chart already exists or if the more statistically inclined forum goers have additional solid numbers.

The plus side is that the result is a quick at a glance reference, instead of burrowing into the statistics.

Besides in just running numbers with Culex’s work I’m just not seeing any staggering damage type ineffectiveness.
  5. This year and last I got a bug in which Baby New Year is led to the cave exit. New Year is targeted and standing next to the Player. Click on the door. You appear outside and Baby New Year instead is shifted deep below the map into the distance. This is only seen if the character is targeted. As the targeted NPC is shifted into the distance he becomes untargeted. The escort NPC is impossible to find on the map or within the cave system. Can’t quite determine the cause of this. But this did happen several times today. And several times last year.
  6. Every good character needs their own opening theme. Doctor Buffer is my tribute to Greg House, played in character with proper snarky witticisms.

For the uninitiated this piece is based upon the opener to
House MD a medical drama airing on Fox.

All the content save the red lightning and dust was produced with in game content, captured to approximate the form and shape of the medical drawings, effects, and shots.
  7. I feel apprehensive posting anything else in this thread.

The whole contest has been a very strange experience. Rules that require a copyright lawyer to untangle.

Granted most are just indications not to misrepresent the game, produce things that would cause copyright infringement, or have others take legal action, or produce material that would need to be censored.

No explanation as to how to upload video content other than odd ramblings within select threads of the gametrailer forums. Now in order to even get into the forums you need to ‘level’ your account by watching a good number of videos.

The only indication I received was that on their forums the weekend was historically a bad time to upload movies. Due to how their server would have to handle conversion to flv, and on average a lot of uploads.

Just getting a non-contest piece of user movie content up was a challenge. A day and a half of trial and error to find a format that would be small, have a large image size ratio, yet look good as flash video.

So sure there was the potential to keep on reworking the piece, but I was paranoid enough as it was just trying to get an entry online before the weekend and during the work week where someone was at the other end of a fax machine. Because who knows what hours the web staff keeps.

I’m not even sure how to feel about much anything at this stage. Some of the latest batch seem to have even gone over the four minute length. And who can even tell when some things were uploaded when to the site on Sunday with severside issues?
  8. To the good people of the forum I present my entry GRIDLOCK for your entertainment pleasure.

As many have noted the statistics of their work, further information can be read at the gametrailer website. These are notes encapsulating what went on after production ended on the 4th.

Have a good one and support the benevolent dictator of the Etoile Islands, Lord Recluse.
  9. Just so that people know how to publish things to GameTrailers.
(As I had to figure this out with trial and error for a day and a half.)

    THE FILE TYPE
I had good results rendering out to WMV from Premiere Pro 2.0.

    Using - File / Export / Adobe Media Encoder…

    Video
Codec - Windows Media Video 9
    Frame size - 640 X 480
    Frame Rate - 29.97
    Video Bitrate - 1500

    Audio
    Windows Media Audio 9.2
Audio Format: 48 kbps, 44 kHz, Stereo VBR

Once you have that WMV file ready go to GameTrailers.com and make sure you create an account with them. Log in and from the pull down choose My Content/User Movies

Then click upload, fill out the form noting the button and checkbox and the bottom for the Contest.

Now upload your piece and wait a while

It eventually uploads and has to process.

    You will eventually see…
    Status: #109 Non-fatal error: proceeding
(Ignore this and just wait a bit things are just processing)

    Click my movies again

    Status: #102 Compressing

Now just wait a bit and your movie will be uploaded to the site.
  10. Suppose we are trapped with boilerplate rules that happen to be a catch all for these sort of contests. Only hope that someone from NCsoft can get more specific rules from MTV Networks.

There is a distinct difference between City of and mature themed games on the market. Which I assume is why the rules are stated in the manner that they happen to be in.

When it comes down to it anything can be rejected for any reason. Observational humor anything can be misconstrued. Heck just footage of a character going though Grandville and hearing Recluse’s speech could violate things.

Hope we get some feedback before the contest entry time expires.
  11. Greetings Joe,

Thanks for giving us this chance to interview you.

My questions concern the galactic frontier that comes into contact with Rhode Island and the Rogue Isles.

    • Story wise will we ever get a better impression of the alien race that long ago altered the people of the Rikti Home World dimension?

    • What alternate events have taken place that that particular alien race of our dimension have not visited Earth?

    • Will there be future storylines delving into the intergalactic affairs of the universe? (As far as our known alien races we have issue 11’s ‘coming storm’, Keldians, Shivans, and the race that altered the people of the Rikti Home World.)

The in game stories bring be back each time, keep up the great work

BTW I'd personally love to hear answers about InfamousBrad's queries concerning CoX geography.
  12. I suppose it is nice that we have a choice as to how things are handled. Though heroes running around with swords and axes are asking for problems.
  13. I appreciate the responses. After getting one hero and one villain up to 50 (and then subsequent characters to 30+) I find knowing the lore of the land is helpful to build characters that fit into the world. It all adds to character motivation and color.

Finding out what happens to the defeated helps flesh things out.

    Have a good one
  14. Thank you for your perspective.

As for the actual published comics produced about the video game, yep I'm aware, and find it rather neat that they are cannon. My pondering was if there were comics in the game world. Much like there is a super hero themed soap opera, "The Super Days," on TV and what not.
  15. I have some role-play questions about the day to day things that happen in the game. I had posted this under the General Discussions, but I'm still curious what others think.

Now I assume hero side that when any thug, gangbanger, or super villain is knocked out that they are tagged with a locater beacon that transports them to police custody for legal processing.

Should I even speculate the legal process? And is it even legal to take evidence (aka dropped items)?

What happens to ‘defeated’ non human things: robots, hydra, whisps, rikti, demons, and ghosts?

    Meanwhile villain side

You are taking out thugs and the mafia making a name for yourself and a hefty wad of cash. Are these guys porting to the nearest underworld medical facility after knockout?

And what is their story with the aforementioned ‘knocked out’ non human encounters?

    And finally a philosophical pondering.

Are there comics in the CoX universe? (as in within the world of the game) Some shows such as Smallville have comic books paralleling the material.
As CoX is creatively influenced by an amalgam of many comic worlds, would we expect the print adventures of ‘Locksley & Chiroptero-lad’™ vs ‘The Living Clown’™?
  16. I am fully impressed with the diversity added to this upcoming issue. Again another phenomenal job by the team. More content, more character customization, and more Archetypes. Thank you all for more quality game play.
  17. I for one fully endorse the PlayNC business model of offering extras for a nominal fee.
The beauty of it is this doesn’t give one player a different experience in game content or game play experience.

Costumes are one of the cornerstones of the games fun and self expression. Formally attired super villains now have some more wardrobe options before planning for world domination. Heroic coachmen can now make a stand for justice.

And the end user has the choice of purchasing these costume parts and emotes.

I was pondering if legacy exclusive content could be packaged in a similar manner. I’m sure many that didn’t get a chance to get the collectors editions or preorder might like the chance for more character options.
