Quote:Hmm...In 4+ years of playing, I've NEVER had a GM get back to me in anything less than 3 days...
Quote:*shrug* Maybe it's improved lately. I don't petition any more, haven't done for MONTHS, as I never EVER got a reply.
That was, I think, the fault of my iPhone. I went under a tunnel as I was sending that.

"We get NONE of that, didn't even know you HAD Dev attended events on Thursday.
As for GM response time, it's anywhere from a few hours, to your petition being automatically closed without even an automated email... In 4+ years of playing, I've NEVER had a GM get back to me in anything less than 3 days..."
/mild smiling facepalm
i was referring to the fact that the Rare events attended by devs happen when they are awake, At ludicrous times for us, and hence are usually imppssible for us europeans to attend anyway. Ive been to one such event, where i saw Lord Recluse for about 5 minutes. It was very late and really not worth it.
your GM response time is terrible, but maybe its tge nature of our pwtitions that causes the disparity. I really only petition when i cant find a glowy in a mission or am otherwise prevented from completing and im in a hurry to leave for work, or when im reporting a trademark infringement.

I think that 'cracker' is banned by the AE filter too.
They have to take a majority view of it or even a loud minority view. I personally am fine with hearing the C-word, and i and my friends use it a lot in conversation. I'm not clamoring for its inclusion ingame or in the forums just because only a portion of the forumgoers find it offensive or even because I think NCSoft mistakenly thinks a portion of the forumgoers find it offensive.
I understand that I am in the minority, and I dont tilt at windmills about it.

"To understand it fully, you would have needed to be a member of the EU community for a while. Part of the feeling is the almost non-existent dev interaction; something that's always kinda annoyed many of us, especially the more vocal forum members, another is that our suggestions are pretty much universally ignored, another is the fact that US and EU GM's run on different rules completely, with you having the much better deal.
In fact, on that side, one of our members carried out an experiment. He accidentally deleted one of his characters EU side, and was told by a GM that it was policy not to restore deleted chars. Obviously that annoyed him greatly as he KNEW that wasn't the case in the US. So, he created a US account, made a character, then deleted it and petitioned the GM's. His character was restored with no quibbles whatsoever. Nice, eh?
Another is that yes, our game IS significantly more laggy than the American one, and in fact, in the UK at least, we can get a FAR better connection to the US servers than we can to our own, which is ridiculous. Nothing has EVER been done to address this, despite MANY complaints."
wow. I'm glad i didnt switch when i had the chance. If of course what you claim is true. As per your own 'everythings an opinion' approach, i've got no evidence to go on.
Be that as it may, if you are playing a laggy dev-free game with horrible GMs, then you have my sympathy. it must be awful. Lets hope they 'merge' server lists in the same way they did with the forums, eh? Then you'll be able to take part in Dev-attended events at 4:30am on a thursday in pocket D, experience the wonder that is Freedoms AP AE building on a double xp rikti invasion weekend, and use the admittedly great in-game US GMs (average time to respond In my experience 5 minutes).

Sorry about that mate. Im on me iPhone lol. The screens too small to see everything while i'm typing. Edited my post to correct.

"In which case, the EU community may be proven to be as irrelevant to NCSoft as some of us have often felt."
this is interesting to me, a Brit who's been playing on the US servers for 4.5 yrs now. Why do you say this?
The EU players get the exact same game, dont they? Is it purely the shortfall in server numbers Compared to the US game that irks you?
Is the UK game laggy or often down for long periods?
Who is 'some of us', btw, is it a signidicant enough portion to warrant NCSoft listening to from an economic point of view? I dont kbow about the UK game, but there are. Numbers somewhere that show that the US forumgoers are a tiny portion of the US playerbase. Is this different for the UK subscriptions?

I'm not a footie fan, but well-said, Rooks.

FFM - i think you're going to be disappointed, then.

"Unless, of course, you have evidence of that?"
i may if course be mistaken, but i have been under the impression for some time that 'spade' was a term generally thought of In the US as an offensive term for a person with african ancestry. Rather like 'wog' in the UK. You're obviously an intelligent person; do you think 'spade' is offensive to enough americans to make my impression accurate?
Eco
edited to add 'in the US' -
"Ideally no offence will be caused to any forum-goers - although given the range of cultures and sensibilities involved that is nigh impossible - but it's a long way from more than one forum-goer is offended to the majority are."
i said that 'spade' is offensive to the majority, not grinningspade etc.
By the majority i meant the US portion of the forum goers. Im pretty sure that if upu asked all the US forum goers, they'd say that they considered 'spade' an offensive term.

"Clearly you've never heard that phrase before. It's satirical, don'tchaknow."
you're right, i wasnt aware that you were quoting someone else. Insread of smugly pointing this out and leaving it at that, perhaps you could educate me?

"Imagine, if you will, a British-made film depicting the battle of Midway that ends up going very badly for the US. Then, when the Japanese are on the very cusp of victory a group of King George V battleships and Illustrious carriers steam into view and single-handedly wipe out the Imperial fleet and save the day.
We all know how our transatlantic cousins would react to such butchery of their proud moments in history. Yet they feel other nations are overreacting when they express those exact same sentiments."
firstly, this would be an awesome film.
secondly, some americans, namely po-faced humorless rah-rah 'how dare you sirrah?' types would very likely complain. But they'd be IMO missing the point.
What's your opinion of Enigma, btw?

"I treat all posts as opinions, even when they're claiming facts. Facts require proof, and proof is for alcohol and mathematics."
This is either a hastily thought through flippancy, or negates any point in enterung into any debate on anything with you if it truly how you operate. If we cannot agree on any kind of baseground to start from, whats the point of talking to you?
"The movie Pearl Harbour starred Ben Affleck" I say,
"Thats your opinion" is a ludicrous stance to take.
Eco -
"Would the yanks be this dismissive if we produced a film showing the Doolittle raid as Bomber Harris leading a squadron of Mosquitoes attacking mainland Japan?"
i tgibk they've already made a bang-up job of making an utterly inaccurate portrayal of tgat with Pearl Harbour!
Which is also an awesome movie IMO. Awesomely bad, of course, but a fine example of so-bad-its-good.

"Such a name is FAR more likely to illicit no more than a chuckle from any of the English folks *I* know..."
my mother would be offended if sb said 'spunk' to her.
But arguing about it with you is irrelevant, i see. 'spade' is an offensive term to the majority of the forum-goers. Thats enough.

FFM (not quotibg full cos im on mi iphone and the new forums are slooow)
"You might find it less amusing if you had a "States-man", a "Stateman" and a "Statesman" to keep track of!"
you seem to be still under tge impression that i'm american. I'm not, and we're olaying the same game, arent we? Whats with all the 'you'?
In regard to IMO, i find it useful to append this to opinions to help differentiate them from statements of fact. Iys my own personal feeling that doing this helps the poster come over as more polite. Perhaps its just my natural British reserve acting here.

Imagine an american had 'spunky rubber jonnie' as tgeir forum name. You personally might not find it offensive, and the yank in question might protest that it was based on a confident hero called John with stretch powers, but someone from the UK might be offended, so it could be pulled.
Eco -
I can see i'm going to have to mwntally add 'IMO' to all of FFMs posts for him and my own sanity
(pls note smiley)
IMO Hero 1s an awesome name.
My opinion of U-571 is that brits who rail against its US slant miss out on appreciating what it actually is: an awesome submarine movie, not a historically accurate film.

Quote:Here's a suggestion which you could try:Depends on how many more complaints they are getting I guess. So far they wanted me to remove the Avatar at least. When I reread her post removing the Avatar is all they demand of me right now.
Not a good start for me on this merged forum, I am reluctant to respond to topics.
make a new avatar, based on your old one, if necessary, but with an obvious 'playing card' motif. Run it past avatea. Maybe add sth to your sig which makes it clear that 'spade' refers to the suit.

Quote:'our community'?...'yours'?And if that's the case, then I say seperate the boards again, immediately. Our community was just as rich and vibrant as yours, and there's no way we should have to lose our identity in face of the merger.
Dude, I'm Welsh. Lived in Cardiff for 30 years. Then I moved here to Poland. My native language is British English. My home server is Freedom, but I hate PLing and farming. I RP but cant stand the RP board so i never post there.
Which community are you referring to as 'mine', exactly?
I understand GrinningSpades chagrin and sympathise, but its obvious why its happened.
And I massively doubt the forum merge will ever be reversed. Calling for such is pointless IMO

Quote:I still don't see why he should. We haven't joined the US forums, the two sides have merged to form a new community, therefore what's acceptable on one sides culture should be acceptable on the boards. I don't see it as acceptable that the EU residents should have to give way to the US culture where there are differences, just like they shouldn't have to give way to us.
As the French would say... Vive la différence!
EDIT I think we need clear guidance from the rednames on this issue, and quickly. In the case of a cultural difference being objectional to one side but not the other, will it be allowed to remain, or will the objection be sustained? Because if that's the case, then maybe merging the forums wasn't a good idea after all.
We shouldnt kid ourselves. This wasnt a true merge. This was the US forums changing their look etc and incorporating the EU forums.
US culture will take precedence, I'm sure.

I wonder if there's a corresponding term tgats offensive in britain but accepted in the US?
You can change your forum name to GrinningShovel, maybe?
