Quote:Whedon ain't got nothing on GRR Martin. Just saying. Actually Ned and Drogo while awesome awesome characters aren't main characters as much as main catalysts for what's to come.Ned and Drogo, nnnnnooooooooo! Damn if i wanted the cool man characters to die i'd go watch Joss Whedon's work. Daenerys has gone up a notch on my list as well as Robb. Question. Does this season truely cover the 1st book? I want to read it now but not if there is anything that might give away season 2.
Robb and Dany are both awesome characters, expect much much more from them. Also be prepared to hate some characters only to fall in love with them later; this story has many twists and turns.
You are completely safe to read book 1 and not have anything spoiled but WARNING you will (I promise) want to immediately pick up Book 2 (A Clash of Kings) as soon as you're done. I started reading about halfway through the season because I couldn't wait another week to find out what happens next, then I had to know what happens after that and so on and so on. Needless to say I'm over a third of the way through Book 4 and waiting eagerly for Book 5 July 12th. And I'll be perfectly honest, even though I knew what was going to happen on the show it just made me love it that much more (much like Furio pointed out). Sean Bean's reactions in Baelor were so true to the character I even teared up a little even though I knew what was going to happen and Dany's "birth" scene still gave me goosebumps. Also the scene that really surprised me on the finale was Mormont and John's conversation about him trying to run. I thought it was written an acted so well, I did not expect to be moved as much as I would by it. -

After the weight of the previous episode, not much would match up anyway. This episode was less "conclusion" as it was all set up for season/book 2. All of those scenes are significant to what's to come in future seasons.

I have no idea if you'll like it or not, but I have serious doubts there are many real comparisons to the Tudors beyond swords and the occasional pay cable nude scene. I understand your hesitation given that now days all shows seem to be the same "there is no black and white, everyone is just a shade of gray" cynical tv. And there is some of that with this story, I'll admit.
But don't think there aren't characters that have honor and that there won't be characters to root for because there are -trust me- and some of them are as good as I've ever seen on TV or read in a book. Nobody is as innocent as they seem and some aren't as guilty either. No character is free from a sudden death and what seems like a victory on page 120 will be a painful heartbreaking defeat on 122. Everytime I think I know what is going to happen Martin takes it into a totally different direction that will over time make total sense.
It's not feel good TV, I'll give it that, but it is rewarding if you give it a try; I promise. In my opinion it's the best thing on TV in quite a while: quality production, great writing and acting and very true to the source material. -
Well they did say Spring 2012, so more like 9 months or so. But yeah.
Great finale, I actually clapped at the final reveal. Filming starts next month so we'll be getting a lot of casting news and hopefully book 5 coming out soon!
(1/3 of the way through book 4 now) -
Quote:Actually it's a cone attack.Shaw didn't seem untouchable because nothing was done to Shaw. I won't even buy the argument that Magneto was in the eye of the storm and his powers were out of control around him, because they didn't work that way. An eye of a storm is circular or spherical. The powers that were out of control 3 feet away from him behind the glass wall, and 3 feet away where the guards were standing weren't out of control 3 feet away from him behind the desk where Shaw was sitting. At the very least the pistol, filing cabinet, bell, helmets, etc should have also been violently tossed around.

Quote:Awesome! glad you enjoy. Would be interested to hear your take on compare/contrast with the UK version. To those who recommended that I watch the US version of the office, I just wanted to say....
thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouTH ANKYOU!!!
Damn, this series is amazing!
I swear, I can't stop laughing every time I see Dwight on screen!
Just about to finish season 3, so much more to come -
My electric/rad is my latest 50 and thanks to a Ragnorak drop the other night was able to do her IO build and respec. It's a good all around controller as MahaBone pointed out. I too went redside for Mu Mastery but not for power sink as she saps plenty. I went full on Mu themed with her (Priestess of Mu) and just had to have the Mu pet. It's a fun fun troller.

Quote:If that was their intention, I'd say it is the first misstep in this version of the story. Tyrion leading them into battle is a major step in the characters story. All of his life he'd been seen as an abomination by his father and blamed for his mother's death. He feels ugly and weak and always gets by on his wits and his money. This was the time when he finally decides it's time to prove his worth to his father. Now mind you, his turn on the battlefield in the books is rather quick and he pretty much ends up in the same place as he does on the show, but not before he does take down one person. And while it might seem a tad nit picky, the act of actually fighting alongside his rogues gallery of fighters is central to Tyrion's growth and his future story. All it looked like on the show was "hey let's watch the funny little person get knocked over by the big people". And that goes quite opposite to what the Tyrion story is all about.See, I was under the impression he had gotten knocked out and missed the whole battle. All Bronn said when Tyrion woke up was, "You're a lousy warrior." (Cleaned up for a PG audience.)
I do realize that there are always going to be changes; and I accept that. The show is still a great adaptation and in my opinion a success. This one thing, though, is a small disappointment. -
Great! Now you've made Ulli a diabetic.
Oh and gratz. Did my first inf cap about a year ago. Quite an accomplishment. Good job! -

Quote:I don't have a problem with their method of cutting costs as the story (of Book 1 at least) is less about what happens during battle and more about what happens before and after. I thought the editing was a bit odd regarding Tyrion because it kind of made it look like he was knocked out before the battle and woke up after it was all over. Yet Bronn mentioned him fighting when he came to. I don't think they were trying to make it out that he didn't fight, but one could argue they did by how it was edited. I'm also a little disappointed that they had him carrying a sword into battle and not the axe. (minor quibble)I wonder if anyone will be upset by the their method of skipping the giant, likely very expensive to film, battle scenes. I was a little disappointed, but I got over it quickly.
(Minor future spoilers)
I'm now about a third of the way through book 3, my concerns is some of the future content is going to be very FX intensive and much bigger in scope battle wise. I really hope they work their way around without having to butcher the story, and still keep the excellent look and feel of the show. -
I will accept your handwave.

And dental fillings.

Even though I decided to read something else (the New Sookie book) in between so I wouldn't burn myself out. I picked up Book 3 and 4 yesterday after work. Now what are the odds I actually don't pick up Storm of Swords before I finish this one?

Quote:You don't have to but you should; those shields are awesome. Even before these changes, it's not as hard or annoying as people make it out to keep a team shielded and have plenty of time for button mashing.edit: i read what you said about buff botting, and cold is definitely not a buff bot, you dont even have to use the buffs really unless your team or pets need the extra safety net
Want an awesome /cold toon OP? Illusion/Cold. -
