  1. Thanks.
I have most of the other in game settings reduced already.

Hoping to get a new card for this system after tax day.
  2. Short version of the story:

CoH was running very poorly on a system with a Geforce 7025 on board video.
    (I know! So shocking!)

The game would render 3 to 6 frames then freeze for 3 to 6 frames, then render another 3 to 6, then freeze another 3 to 6.

After running through all the tests, scans, and software updates I could think of I tried playing with a few more in game settings.

I thought Desaturation Effects were only used at the beginning and end of flash back missions, but disabling them fixed the problem. (Well, the freezing and unfreezing, the game still runs about as well as you'd expect on the aging on board video.)

What else are they used for?

    MotherFlippin!

Looks like he tanked it without dying on a character that does not have an Alpha enhancement slotted, so everything was +8.

Edit: Never mind the not dying bit.
I don't see defeats shown as a challenge and he has debt being paid off in the rewards text.
  5. Offical Announcement

The announcement says Friday, March 11, 6 PM to 10 PM
Anyone from Justice planning to attend?
  6. Maribelle

    Amusing timing

Meh, misinterpreted what they were actually doing.

    I was thinking #6, #5 and #3.
  7. Wait, looking for something lol?
This might change which character I'm entering....
  8. Maribelle

    lolwut

The only winning move is not to play?
  9. Maribelle

    I'm sad....

    My back feels your pain!
  10. Will bios be limited to what fits in the little box, or would the judges be willing to read a longer but not novel length bio if provided with a link in the character's bio page?
  11. I crashed 3 or 4 times trying to lead a ship raid Friday.
I then played Fallout 3 most of the weekend.

Personally, I think it's a bad idea. It was originally pitched on test on January 4th, there have been three weeks for feedback on this issue.
And you felt compelled to bash her for asking, also adding nothing to the conversation!

Yay! This was driving me nuts!
  13. Happy ending:
I decided to reinstall Windows just in case it helped.

I did some exploration badge hunting, joined a Hami raid, a RWZ ship raid, did a few missions, fought Jack and Eochai, and did not crash once.

    Thanks again!
  14. Thanks for the feed back.
I was afraid it might be the power supply going.

I'll check with a few people I know and see if any of them have an extra power supply or video card that could be used to test things out.

I've been having a hard time getting the more recent drivers from Creative to install, I think the newer drivers for my card do not support Windows XP.
  15. It looks like my problem is not CoH specific.
I just experienced the same crash while playing a different game.

  18. CoH has been crashing a lot for me recently, after trying and failing to solve the problem on my own, and then after asking a few friends online, it is time to ask for help here.

    The symptoms
The screen goes black, sound continues for another few seconds before the system hangs. I need to reset the power supply to reboot.

    There is no error message.
There is no entry in in the system Event Viewer.
The crash has happened as soon as a few minutes after logging on, or as late as hours after I've started playing.
The crash has happened solo, while teamed, in a mission, out in a zone.

I am running the latest drivers for my video, sound, and motherboard as of a week or two ago.
Prior to updating I uninstalled the drivers, used a 3rd party program while in safe mode to ensure all traces were removed, and installed the latest Windows XP drivers available from the manufacturer's websites.

I have run chkdisk on all drives with no errors found.
I have defragmented with both the standard Windows defragmenter, and Asulogics Disk Defrag.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled CoH, using the Going Rogue install disk to save on download time.

I have tried running CoH with all settings at the minimum.

I have run Memtest-86 and no errors were found.
I have run Prime95 for a few hours and no errors were found, CPU temperature did not increase significantly.
I tried maxing all settings in game and ran around KR for an hour at 3FPS, GPU temperature did not increase significantly.
I also tried running around in Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion for an hour at above max settings, GPU temperature did not increase significantly.

I realize the tests I ran are not definitive, but given the frequency of the crashes I believe that they suggest that the crashes are not heat related.

I have reseated my memory, sound, and video card, and I vacuumed the slots, fans, and heat-sinks before reinserting components.

I have tried disabling virtual memory in case there was a bad sector on my HD that chkdisk missed that might be causing the crash.

I have run a virus scan with AVG.
I have run Spybot - Search & Destroy.

I have tried changing my CoH updater shortcut from -renderthread 1 to -renderthread 0.

I'm running out of things to try here.
    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
  19. Had to postpone the PST raid, between the late start and the earlier raid we did not get enough people to fill out any of the teams.

    There will be other times.
  20. Ran a Midnight CST raid as well, it took awhile, but we won!
  21. Well, I HAD meant Friday the 14th, but apparently I can not read a calendar.

I can't change the Title, so I've updated the original post with the correct names for the dates given.

So, Double Midnight Hami on Saturday/Sunday.
I'll also run the usual Friday midnight raid for people that saw "Friday" and assumed I had not screwed up the dates.
  22. Two (actually 3, I messed up the original post) midnight raids this week.

    Friday night Hamidon Raid
Hero side Hamidon raid, FridayJanuary 14th 2011.
Planned start time is midnight eastern, 11 central, 10 mountain, 9 pacific
    Australia: January 15th 4PM AEDT, 3PM AEST, 2:30 PM ACST, 3:30PM ACDT, 2PM AWST

    Saturday / Sunday Midnight Raids:
Hero side Hamidon raid, Saturday January 15th 2011.
Planned start time is midnight eastern, 11 central, 10 mountain, 9 pacific, January 16th 4PM AEDT, 3PM AEST, 2:30 PM ACST, 3:30PM ACDT, 2PM AWST

Second Raid, also Hero side (Midnight Pacific time)
    Sunday January 16th
Planned start time is 3am eastern, 2am central, 1am mountain, Midnight the 15th pacific, January 16th 7 PM AEDT, 6 PM AEST, 5:30 PM ACST, 6:30 PM ACDT, 5 PM AWST

These raids tend to fill up well before the announced start time.

I probably screwed up the Australian time zones, and you might want to double check my conversions if you are in those time zones.
Anyone have a handy time zone calculator?

Please join JFA2010 for most future raid announcements. I usually only post the start time there, I'm probably lazy.
