Quote:I do no think this is a firewall issue. This is because, when the problem occurs I can't even access the modem/router's settings (via its I.P. address in a browser). It's as if the modem/router is waving a white flag and will only work again once I reboot it. Plus, if the firewall was blocking something, surely I would experience a problem immediately, rather than at some seemingly random point a couple of hours in. My software firewall (Comodo) has nothing in its logs about blocking anything to do with CoH, and even if it did, I don't see how that would cause my modem/router to drop connection. I always have the Windows Firewall deactivated and am aware that only one software firewall should be in use. My router/modem's firewall log is completely clear - no unusual events have been recorded.Sounds more like a firewall issue if its killing your net connection rather than just affecting connectivity to the game servers.
Check the logs on your router and any software firewall/AV you are using and check if anything is being blocked that shouldn't be - you may need to open some ports.
It is possible that something is being flagged up as suspicious and so the firewall is blocking that port/program after repeat attempts to do something.
Also if you are using a third party software firewall (including any provided with your AV software) then disable the Microsoft firewall - you don't want to run two at the same time.
I have played CoH on and off for seven years, using the same modem/router (with the same unchanged settings) in all that time. This problem has never occurred until very recently, which makes me wonder if it could be an over-heating issue. I have since made a minor modifcation to my router to increase air-flow from its vents. Maybe this will alleviate the problem. -
Thanks for the response.
I did the netgraph thing as instructed. I seem to get short green lines, average ping is about 240ish. I know that's not great but it doesn't surprise me given the distance and number of hops involved.
I have a permanent wired connection to my modem/router. I never do online gaming over Wi-Fi.
Plugging directly into the modem, bypassing the router, is not an option because my router and modem are one and the same device.
I feel I need to clarify something. When I say I lose connection - I don't mean I just lose connection to CoH - I mean my net connection drops altogether and I have to reboot my router. This only happens while playing CoH. At no other time does it do this. I have not played CoH since my original post on 30th October, and my connection has never dropped.
I will start playing again, using the netgraph, and see if it happens again. I will try to keep a record of how much time passes before it drops. Perhaps there is a pattern? Is it possible that the modem/router temporarily overheats because of constantly processing data for pro-longed periods of time? -
Any chance of a response to this plea for help? Thanks.

Whenever I play City of Heroes/Villains, at a seemingly random point, my modem/router will completely drop connection. This only seems to happen when playing City of Heroes. This seems like a very odd problem and I hope you can shed light on this and help me to solve it.
I originally started playing CoH when it originally launched seven years ago which explains why my account is connected to U.S. servers even though I live in the U.K. (If I'm not mistaken, Euro servers weren't available when you orginally launched.)
I have tried to follow your guide to posting a tech support post as best I can. Hopefully, I haven't missed anything.
