  1. "The Parting Glass"

Oh all the money that e'er I spent
I spent it in good company
And all the harm that e'er I've done
Alas, it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all

Oh all the comrades that e'er I've had
They're sorry for my going away
And of all the sweethearts that e'er I've had
They wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call
Good night and joy be with you all

Aye Liam, may we never die...

    Wait a sec...

Did you just say "I know you are, but what am I"?

Now THERE'S some serious debate skills!

Hmmm, can't seem to find an :eyeroll: emoticon...

The number of folks who fail to recognize a Beatles song leaves me with a massive sad...

That someone remembers Art of Noise gives me a big happy!

We can all stand to be a little more awesome to each other, I think.
Would if I could, but alas, how can I be a constructive member in the community of a game I don't play?

I tried, I was a subscriber for 6 months back in 2004 and have attempted to return a number of times. But, sadly, just as many of you have difficulty with aspects of my chosen game, Champions Online, there were aspects of CoX I was unable to overcome, primarily the combat system...

But I feel this community is greater than any I've ever encountered, including CO (though I think we're pretty cool too) and if any game in history ever deserved to get rescued from the brink, it's this one. And if it does happen, which I fervently hope occurs, it will all be because of you...

    You guys ROCK!

That was paying, not giving. Big difference...

I too am speechless. This community is truly amazing. In the past two weeks of forum lurking I have gained a huge amount of respect for you all. And this ices the cake...

Makes me wish I had been a member of it...

When CO came out, I got on board early, figuring that my characters would be even more ideally suited to that game than this one, which was pretty much squelched after realizing that the PnP and the video game don't share much in common mechanically, although they do in spirit.

Now I'm in the process of giving CO another look, since I haven't played actively in over two years.

Generally, I don't see CO as better or worse, just different. There are some aspects I like, some I dislike. There have definitely been changes since my last visit, so I'm enjoying looking around and exploring the gameplay.
    Brother!!!

I too started with V&V, met Jeff Dee, helluva nice guy. I was at the Pacific Origins in '81 when Champions was released. Was hooked from point one. Bought my first copy there and have played ever since...

As for the mechanics, yeah, it is disappointing, but when I heard that they were building CO on top of what was supposed to be Marvel Universe Online I didn't expect anything like Advantages or Disadvantages to be included. The Hero System really needs a game built specifically around it to do it justice...

But then I think, egad, just how long would it take to build a character if I had to build each power too?

    The mind wobbles...

OK, I've had enough beer that I guess I'm not shutting up now...

The reason is simple, it's a lot easier to make "stylized" characters than it is to make realistic looking ones. The farther you break from reality, the more flexibility you have in character design. The more real you are, the more you're compared to real...

As for CO, I'm not gonna deny that it may seem "cartoony", but I feel it's more the coloring than anything else. CO is much brighter than CoX. I kinda wish there was a setting to adjust the color vibrancy. Mute things down a little. I just thank gawd that they have an option to remove the comic outline...

    Edit: OK, shutting up NOW...
  10. Trailturtle isn't a dev, he's our brand new Community Moderator and, although we share him with Jade Dynasty, I must say he's doing an awesome job! He's not Zwell, but he seems to be a quality guy.

Look, I'm sorry for my prior post. I would prefer to edit it out of existence, but I've vowed never to edit a post once its been responded to. They're my words and I need to stand by them, explain them, or apologize...

    I apologize...

My post was based on offense taken from a, very few I admit, responses. I've lurked here long enough to expect Golden Girl, but FMe eyes over my wife's deathbed? Really? My post was a knee jerk response and a massive over-generalization...

CoX has a class act community. Many of us over at CO know that. It's tragic to to see a tight knit community, any community, torn asunder. Our offer is genuine, our apologizes are sincere. If you choose to visit, we will do our best to welcome you. Just please ignore zone chat...

As for graphics, I get it. I had the same problem switching over from EQ to WoW...

    Shutting up now...
  11. Most all of us, devs and community, appreciate your plight. I know you're a tight knit and dedicated community who are seeing their game die, and it honestly breaks my heart. I quickly signed your petition, as many CO forum goers did. Heck, our CM and a dev ran a meet and greet!

Sadly, it seems that, at least by some, CO here is being treated with much less respect by the forum community than CoX is over in our neck of the woods...

I seem to remember a little while ago when I came back to check out CoX F2P and I mentioned in game that I preferred CO. I believe the term another poster used here was "dog pile". Yeah, that. But it was no big deal; quite common if F2P games. I didn't and don't judge your community by that...

I tend to judge the heart of a gaming community by its forum community. And currently I'm a little disappointed...

And for those of you who think I just created this account to troll, I played CoX back for 6 months back in 2004. I've returned off and on. I've accumulated 3 years of subscription perks whatever you call them. CoX just isn't the game for me. And no, I'm not going into some long diatribe as to why. It isn't and that should suffice. CO is, again no diatribe, it should just suffice...

If you don't like CO, fine. I fully understand. It's not your cup of tea. But we're trying to extend a hand here and some of you folks are spitting in it...
