Okay Freehand was A LOT better, though it too keeps the last stroke as a selection. Annoying, but if you click somewhere off to the side, you can see your drawing without the odd blue lines around your last line. Nowhere near the subtlety of Illustrator...
-
Okay, I HATED that... very much like when I first used Illustrator's brush tool WITHOUT unchecking the "keep selected" box... having every new line constantly open for adjustment is not intuitive to normal drawing. But yet uncheck that box, and it's all kosher! I give Corel Draw on a scale of 1 - 10, the finger!
I am now downloading the trial for Freehand MX by Adobe. Brb. -

the reason I don't do many is because it takes for ever the way I do it ... I do have a tablet at home but I tend to draw at work. Add to that the fact that I like things to be just the way I want it and you have me working in a vectorial software (Corel Draw) drawing the outer and inner line of each stroke and filling in the shape after.
Long process ...

I've never used Corel, but now I am curious... are you actually using the pen tool to ink? I tried that once, it was exhausting, doesn't Corel have a brush tool? I may to go check this out...
Downloading the trial, will post review asap... -
Traditional method: Windsor Newton series 7 brush, I think a number 1 or 00, or both! Lettering brushes are also good. .005 black Micron pen is irreplaceable, I buy them like Mel Gibson buys Catcher on the Rye books.
Digital Method: I use a calligraphy brush, and some custom made brushes in Adobe Illustrator. I also use Photoshop, but mostly to erase areas where my ink lines have crossed over each other.
There are some good books on inking, namely the Art of Comic Book Inking. An easier method is to place tracing paper over an image you like, and to use a brush marker to "ink", the trick is to apply more pressure for thicker lines, and to barely touch the surface with the tip for a thin line.
Good luck. -
I actually the central figure the most... the salute is a nice touch with the name. No offense, but the clenched fists behind her, gives me the impression they don't approve of her? She must be a rebel...
Did you see that video of Jack talking on the ST Online site... I'd like to see Statesmen drawn with his RL hair! lolol -
The wife has solved some of my design issues for the next piece. I have a little more faith in it as such... I may have to do two versions to suit my curiosity, but that is negligible.
Thank you again EK for the kindness... very strange to read my name and D&D in the same sentence. Well finishing up Enterprise episode, and then gonna call it a night. Cheers all! -
Nice collection Bill, can't believe I've never done one for you... not even a freebie!

Wow! This is breathtaking man. I dont know where to start... The location is very cool, being holed up and just blasting away at some poor soul(s), the vividness of the colors, the level of effects, the blur motion of the rifle and bullets, as well as the puddle of water and the distorted reflection. Epic coolness man!

Location? I think the second circle is misleading... it's meant to signify another gun pointed at Wheri... ala the James Bond opening. She's not in a sewer, which is what the wife thought when I showed it to her. I cropped it close because she would have appeared too small, had I kept the whole black background.
But I am glad you like it.
I actually was NOT looking forward to this one. It was one of the hardest costumes to draw. But I think the initial sketch helped convince me I could do it. And I knew I was gonna blur the gun, so I was looking forward to pulling that off... without tooting my own horn too much, I think it's one of my best to date. I just hope the last one for you isn't anti-climactic.
We'll find out in 2 days. Same... time... same... channel!

I hope so, too tired to finish this tonight, but we just bought some really amazing melt in your mouth bacon at our local butcher (we have a family member working there) ... so rise and shine, a great breakfast, and BAM coloring time!
-
LOL I made that! I gotta design a new one that shoots more random... but I can fix that in Photoshop during the color stage, sides I think I'm gonna blur them...
-
...finished! Now on to the colors... ummm first thing in the morning!
-
Wherrlwind... is coming along, but since it's Obama Day, kind of hard to ink and watch TV. But I will
triumph!!!

... thanks again for the D&D compliment, I changed your free sketch a bit to make it more dramatic... hope you like it.
Edit: whoops I forget, send me your email in a pm and I'll email you the HUGE version.

Congrats... can we see the screen shot that inspired this heroine/villain?
-
Well I could photomanip this one, but then all that detail could be spent actually drawing it... so I think I will reserve my energy.
-
A little LJ would kick yer butt... but then she's taller than the average toon...
Too cool work there sir!!!
-
Sorry next piece will have to wait till tomorrow... CO testing night! Plus this one is so intricate, I got a lot of inking to do... anyway, here's the preliminary sketch... more to follow, and no, no photomanip on this one... just a modified sketch from a photo that had the right hands.

Make sure when you use the Illustrator Brush tool to double click the tool itself in the tool tray, so that a box pops up, UNCHECK the "keep selection" box. This will allow you to draw "naturally", other wise every line you set down gets changed by the next one because the computer thinks you "want" to redraw it.
There are tons of free brushes online, I use Calligraphy brushes for inking, but then my tablet is an Intuos 3 and can pick up on pen pressure. You won't have that ability with a 512 pressure sensitive Wacom, like their graphire series. Just so you know.
I believe you can get an older version of Illustrator and have the same abilities, which might only cost you a couple of hundred rather than $699 for the current version.
I will email you the HUGE version now.
Here' is the actual size head.
