I didn't ignore it, but in between adding mine, you had uploaded, and I just NOW saw what you had added... at first I thought you were just shouting Tennis terms, but now I see you put things on the ship, sorry for missing it... also I know by the time I started all over, someone else would have changed it...

Can't post the whole piece yet, as it's a surprise birthday gift... but...
I thought I'd show a snippet of the section I'm really proud of... the metal cyborg arm!
Gotta finish one more, than I will be ready for my Ultimate Centinull...
-
Really one of the best galleries around, an impressive amount of collected pieces... congrats on the Jomaro finish too!
-
Sorry for the lack of art, working on a commission, but I haven't forgotten my promises... more to come soon as possible, for now just a teaser on the new costume, and yes it's an SW look.
-
Bubba told me since the theme was anonymous, I could slip right in unnoticed... (read in best Scooby Doo Old Man taking off the mask - voice) and I would have gotten away with it too, if that rotten Lousy Day hadn't uncovered me!
Congrats to Liz!
Now on to some Tarot Cards... thanks again Bubba for letting me join the fun!

How do you know she won? Did Bubba reveal the artists?
-
You finally got tired of drawing Gargoyles... and were looking for something even crazier?
-
All great suggestions and terrific links. The only thing in addition I ask for, since I am primarily a portrait artist is, who would play them in a movie, that is to say suggesting an actor/actress they like... but your average artist might not ask for that, though it always helps in my opinion to give more than less.
-
Darn, I should've entered that into your commission contest...

Ty EnnVee... ((((right back at you))))
Unfortunately won't be able to post any results till after said gift is given, but planning to work on this all week, if I even need that. -
Platonic Manly Hug? NOT ON MY WATCH!!!
lolol j/k I always knew Caem was a platonic manly hugger! I mean Macho, very Macho Demon Man-thing... yeah that's it. -
Got it, sorry... 2 days is my waiting limit, but on board now, and very excited!
-
I guess you don't check your private messages? Oh well I tried to be nice.

Quote:that was just his example its an actual "contest" for his sg...
Yes I realize the premise of the thread, my point was, and I guess I didn't make it very clear, what did his example have to do with the name. Where does the name come from (other than the computer term), that is to say why THAT name, and why this look as an example IF it has nothing to do with the SG or the name...
IF CAD, was military based, his example (pointless or not) would make sense... but if they're not military like, and the black gold thing isn't some X-men offshoot, 70s throwback, door man look, is there something else to go on, for any of us wanting to help him out... Or is this just for his SG input, in which case I'll shut up. -
Is the actual name of the SG, Control, Alt, Delete?
Going by your costumes, it has a more military feel to me... -
I'll bite... since I'm not in it... or am I?

Dear Sam:
I sent you a pm, also to find your screenshots, you want to click on:
Computer/C: (drive)/program files (if you have 2 of these, you want the x86 one)/ NC Soft/ City of Heroes / Screenshot folder
Any time you press print screen, one will appear there. For references, I would take 5 screens of each character. Front, side, back, head close up, and power usage.
You should take this in an uncluttered area, brightly lit if you have a dark colored toon, and semi dark for a brightly colored toon. The contrast helps to see the details.
Check the screens if you can before you send them, the bigger the better, so that means don't take far away shots. And make you sure you don't cut off any details.
Hope that helps...

Always best to make your very own thread when asking for work not related to the owner of the thread. Secondly and I am assuming you are not commissioning, but instead are asking for a kind hearted soul? In that case, a screenshot of the toons involved goes a long way to either inspire or deter the artist from taking you on.
A description helps as well, no one likes going in blind. If however you are comissioning we are not allowed to talk about prices openly. You are better off private messaging the artist you like, and giving them your budget, and seeing what they will do for that amount.
Good luck on your present/artist finding... also a deadline for said gift may make someone sympathetic as well...

Quote:This is actually a proven fact, and the reason why MOST adults draw like children. Because for most adults who are not in the day to day artistic fields, the last time they drew was as kids. The brain like any muscle that isn't exercised, only remembers the last time you did it. Thus the child like lines...Greetings,
I should preface this by stating that prior to about a month ago I hadn't put graphite to paper in over two decades and when I did it was on par with my elementary aged children.
Oya
That being said, 2 decades later and you have a better handle than most.
So it's only a matter of getting back into your groove.
Lousey is right, structure would help your composition... but remember passion is what keeps you going.
My suggestion would be 2 things, enter a search into Google on "drawing a face". And hit the video search tab... you will see a variety of styles, but most of them show "the basics"... it's nice to input that visual data on how others draw. It will add to any book technique you see, the idea is not to emulate, but to absorb and output...
Also, be aware of your paper's edges since you are doing things traditionally. Give yourself an invisible 1 inch margin all around and try NOT to go outside the margin with your composition, UNLESS you have to.
By keeping things inside the invisible margin, you prevent your composition from becoming lopsided. Which is the problem I see in your first drawing. It looks like you wanted to include the ear, but it was somehow waaay outside the margin for you and off the page.
With an invisible margin, all your elements or facial features stay inside and within proportion of one another, and the margin itself is used for things such as background, hair, clothing, other body parts, etc...
Also prioritize when you're composing your piece. Is this a drawing of the complete head, did the shoulder have to take up as much space as the mouth to nose area? In a face, the expression is of utmost important, then I would argue comes light, where it hits, what shadows it casts.
Block in lightly on your page with very faded lines, where your edges are, and your elements are gonna be. By edges in this case, I would have marked the hat, the shoulder, the left and right side of the face, the left and right side of the hair. If you are copying from a reference, this measuring distance of elements in relation to one another will help plan your overall composition, and prevent the face from become compressed.
I actually have the reverse problem that you do, I elongate naturally anything I draw. In a digital program, you can flip the face left to right to see if your proportions are lop sided. Traditionally, we have to do some place marking to make sure we don't go too wide or too long.
I hope some of that helps. Keep posting, this is definitely the place to get some feedback...
