On one of the Croatoa missions, you fight a named Witch. I always thought this was a reference to Fran Drescher, as the Witch was called Fran, and has Sonic Blast based powers. (Anyone seen any work by her, will notice her voice is kinda 'special')

That's weirdness x10. My mom's name is Frances, she was born on Halloween. -

Depth? A uber cool effect like that and you just call it depth!? Nonono... that will never do! It needs a smarter sounding name! What's Latin for depth??
[/ QUOTE ]
What type of depth? There's a few choices.
Oh heck, here, pick one...
depth
alo alere alui altum (or alitum) [to nourish , support, rear, feed]; hence in gen., [to strengthen, increase, promote, advance]. Hence partic. altus -a -um, [grown, great]. altitudo -inis f. (1) [height]; hence [sublimity]. (2) [depth]; 'animi' , [secrecy, reserve].

Wow, this is a blast from the past.
I wonder if anyone's managed to compile all of these. Perhaps into a wiki or something, with an easy link to all of it in one page.
[/ QUOTE ]
There is a page titled 'Easter Egg' in ParagonWiki but it's not even close to the size of this massive thread. Either the person (gods, I'm sorry, I forgot his name, there's a poster round ehre who does update the ParagonWiki stuff... I'm brainfarting though so I apologize to him) either this thread literaly sploded his head or his still compiling stuff.
I hope you guys didn't splode him. I love ParagonWiki. -

I agree on both of those with you.
To any orangenames following this, the way this contest has been handled, and I understand the delays, that's not the issue, the choices that were displayed, the way the winner 'seems' to have been chosen. It doesn't reflect well on the company. I can really only speak for myself but, I'm getting the feeling that Co* just doesn't matter that much in the grand scheme of things at NCSoft. I don't like that feeling. It doesn't bode well for the future of my beloved game. -

So if indeed you do see this thread as a matter of respect, and people either should or should not respect authorities, then I think it's pretty easy to say that this particular authority is not getting the respect that an authority usually relies upon to do his job correctly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Minor difference with what I meant, actually. What I meant, applied to this scenario, was that people should respect Lighthouse as a person, rather than as authority. I really don't care if authority gets extra helpings of respect or not, but several of the posts made thus far have made ad hominem attacks on Lighthouse, which suggests that this basic human respect is missing, or at least deficient.
I'm posting all this in the full knowledge of the possibility, or rather the probability, that this thread will get deleted for breaking the No Censorship Posts rule. I understand that this thread only exists on the sufferance of the mods who have probably decided that there should be someplace for people to air their grievances, even though the airing of grievances is against the forum rules in the first place.
I do get the feeling that the moment this really goes south into bashing and flaming, this thread is gone.
[/ QUOTE ]
On respect, I'm with you Kellis in that there's different types and levels of respect. There's the respect given to any member of the human race. The respect given to a spouse or trusted friend. The respect given to a mentor.
Now, as far as respecting Lighthouse, I respect him as another human being. That's it. I haven't given him any more respect as an authority figure, it's my belief that people in authority must demonstrate they deserve more respect by how they use their authority. I don't know Lighthouse well enough to do that. In the few pm's I'm traded with him, he strikes me as a very corporate person. Our little community is just that, little and usually friendlier than larger communities.
Look at it like a business. A small business, like a doctor's office with seven employees, after a little while, there's a family feel, everyone knows more about each and work becomes a joy. Now, get a job at Bic, or Briggs Industries. Yeash, steamrolled by corporate policy.
Lighthouse seems like he's still adjusting to our community. I said earlier, give him a little time get accustomed to us. -

If someone hits notify moderator at the bottom of the post , it gets deleted in a few hours .
[/ QUOTE ]
Not always.
Earlier in this thread I linked to a post in the suggestions area where a poster advised self mutilation if someone used the /petition feature. I can't repeat what he called the players that did that. I just can't.
Anyway, that and a few other of his posts of the same caliber remained for days after clicking notify. Another person pm'ed Cricket and asked her to look at those posts. She removed them and apologized for them not being removed by the mods.
Another thread in Player Questions where a person used BabelFish to declare the game and the devs using profanity as... let's just say bad. The post would've been nothing but [censored] over and over except they used BabelFish and our profanity filter isn't in French. Several people posted translations. Hit notify on your own post to have a mod look at your reasoning and they used to delete the offending post. Nope. Not anymore. This time, they deleted the posts explaining what was wrong but not the post with the French profanities.
Either there's only one mod and he's getting tired and hasn't had coffee or sleep in several days or... I'm not sure I can finish that sentence. I mean, a post with profanity is left for days because they just didn't get it?
Seriously confusing these days. Seriously. -

I never followed the love boat. But... could julie have been able to do her job if it were "strictly business"? Or did she have to have a bit of personality? Put a bit of herself into her work? And is that avatar really a picture of you? I like to imagine that all forum avatars are of the people that post. Did you know miss kitty was really a manga character? It's true!
Zeus - god of a point, with some silliness added.
[/ QUOTE ]
The avatar?
That would be me if she had red hair and I hadn't had four kids by c-section. Other than that, yep, looks just like me. Promise.
Julie? Cruise Director Julie... *giggles* Gods my mom loved that show. I was a bit younger then. Very light and silly. Anyone who's watched it, can we have a Gopher round here? That'd make this place a lot of fun. -

Lighthouse is here to do a job. Being your friend is optional.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is important. What is his job? People seem to think his job is "forum moderator". Is it? I was to the understanding that his job was more than just the cheif moderator.
I was to the understanding that his job was to organize and hold together the City of Heroes community. There is more to this than just forum moderation. In game activities are part of this. Contests are part of this. People stay with a game in many cases because of the community and social environment that it brings, and his job is to keep that community together.
Can he do THAT without being friendly?
Zeus - god of differences

From his info screen, Community Relations Manager. Wouldn't that make him like Julie on the Love Boat? -

I've got a better example. Thankfully, it finally got pulled but... No, let me just explain it.
There was a post in Player Questions, in French. If you ran it through a translator, it called the sh** and the devs should be killed, or something like that. Pretty much, French was used to bypass the profanity filter. So, a few folks posted the translation and asked the OP what their question was, yada yada. Every post with the translation was modded but the OP remained. Finally, myself and another posted explaining that OP should be run through a translator because it was offensive and we both notified our own posts. Instructions for the mods kinda.
Our posts were modded out but the OP remained. At one point, that thread had every post except the OP deleted.
I am seriously confused by that. Posts explaining what the OP said were modded but the OP, full of profanity was fine? So, if I decide to cuss out everyone, if I run it through BabelFish first, it's ok?
[/ QUOTE ]
So I should be making all my posts in french when someone needs to be told off? Sweet. How the hell did I miss that post anyways? Wouldn't have even needed a damn translator.
[/ QUOTE ]
Valk was in there too. According to another poster who claimed to actually speak French, it sounded like the OP used a translator to begin with. Dunno, I don't know enough French and I don't know the person who said that well so, maybe.
[/ QUOTE ]
That was me...also modded (heh). Absolutely, the OP wrote his phrase in English, passed it through a translator and posted it. It came out horrible, but the intent was clear.
Did you know "chalice" is a swear word in French Quebec?
As is "tabernacle".
Innocent words in English.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, wasn't sure. Thanks for jumping in.
