Bwa ha ha ha ha!
Gods I laughed... It helps that Diego is on right now. For the childless, Diego is Dora's cousin, he rescues animals in the rain forest. What he's doing in Antartica right now though...

I'm not having any problems, and I don't know anyone who is. Just because it's a big issue to You, doesn't mean it's everyone elses only priority and the dev team should drop everything to focus on it. Either have some patience, or upgrade your own equipment. I have 3 different computers running the game, no crashes on any of them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just judging on the number of threads about it in the Tech Issues section of the forums, it is a problem. And it's fairly widespread.
Just because you aren't crashing doesn't mean no one else is. Also, I don't think a costume option is the only problem. -

lol. Nope, I don't work for NCSoft or Cryptic(although NCSoft has my resume(hint, hint,) Currently, I work for the US military as a contractor. Was just being a bit nostalgic.
Yes, I did just register. Usually I just lurk

Good thing you got dragged out of lurk mode. Welcome to the nut house!

A red-name? Even if he works for the McDonald's regional headquarters in Boise?
[/ QUOTE ]
No he works for the game check his profile.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't see NCSoft or Cryptic in his profile anywhere. It's a nice sentiment but perhaps if you're really interested in granting him a redname, PM Lighthouse and ask if he works on the game. Lot's of companies have computer techies. -

Kin would be better for Mr. Brownstone considering the song...

I used to do a little, but the little wouldn't do it, so the little got more and more.
[/ QUOTE ]
One, that was great. I can hear Slash saying that.
Two, now the song's stuck in my head... -
Not Frank but... *ahem*
My guitar wants to kill your momma...
Maybe I was just stupid enough that year to like that song. *giggle* -

Not to worry, MFS, I get that a lot when I mention Styx, Lips Inc, or It's a Beautiful Day.
And TA feels old...
[/ QUOTE ]
lol Yay! other people as old as me!
Btw I listened to Lips inc for a very long time.
I wasn't a big fan of Styx though but if someone had to google Metallica I'm going to kill em!
[/ QUOTE ]
I love Styx! What's wrong with you?
Next you'll say something about all the color bands.
Color, as in there's a color in the name... Deep Purple, Moody Blues, Cream, Pink Floyd... -

Can we go back to the fact that someone had to google a GnR song please?
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny, I was listening to this song on my iPod when I asked a friend if he liked it. He said he never heard of the song, and I was baffled. Then I asked if he even knew who Guns n' Roses was....... he didn't.
Britney Spears FTL.

Last I heard, Warhammer: Age of Reckoning (aka WAR) will be a more modern test for this - it's on the PC and Xbox 360.
Ultimately, I think that the distance between online and console games will shrink as more people move to voice chat (or voice chat facilities get better). You take away having to type words, you won't need as many keys so you don't need a keyboard.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's a couple MMO's in development or very early beta that are supposed to have integrated voice chat for teaming.
Keyboards may or may not matter in a few years. We'll just have to see what becomes 'the standard'. -

Awesome, thanks for linking that. Interesting to finally see the origin of the Cryptic Studios name. I'd never seen that explained before.

"City of Heroes was very tightly focused on moment to moment combat," Rogers says. "The Marvel game will have more big components to it. It's going to be all the stuff we wanted to put into City of Heroes, and you'll get to run around in Marvel costumes. We've got more money now and more people. We'll add more depth. We want to take it to the next level."
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats a bit disheartening for CoH players. We're the reason Cryptic has more money. The quote makes it sounds like the plan is, put all the awesome ideas we wanted to have in the old game into the new game.

"It's pretty much whack-a-mole," Rogers says of his role as a manager on days like these. "Everybody is running around wondering why Captain America's shield doesn't go up when he gets hit. But on a usual day, it's people at their desks with their heads down making stuff."
[/ QUOTE ]
Looks like MUO is getting our shield sets.

Anybody else wanna play Whack-a-mole right now?
[/ QUOTE ]
To be fair, when Jack spoke at our conference, he was talking about hoping to get MUO out "in this decade." By that time, CoH will be over six years old- a good run for any MMO. CoH development started when? 2001-2002?
Don't be all doom and gloom here folks.
[/ QUOTE ]
O.o
I wasn't, not anymore anyway. I just got a little giggle out of the mental picture of playing Whack-a-mole on cubicles instead of moles.
o.O
Really. 'Twas a joke. -

Thats not necessarily true. Read the article again, note how they've expanded the staff so much that they're moving into a new building.

I prefer to see them posting here too. That's one of my larger issues ... That they've lost touch. If they're here, then they are in touch ... Whether it means anything is a different matter altogether, but at least we know it's not completely unheard.
But ... This little progression of posts reminded me of something.
Just a month before Enron went down the toilet, they were painting pretty rosey pictures of the future too

Jack has said before all is good with COX. How many more times do you people gotta hear it? Geezuz.
[/ QUOTE ]
With all respect to Jack, we all know he's going to say that. As a public representative of Cryptic and CoH, theres nothing else he can say, especially on boards owned and operated by their business partners.
To say anything besides "we're going to continue to support CoH just as much as in the past" would be the equivalent of jumping in front of a bus. It would open him up to all sorts of attacks from board posters, and raise questions with Cryptic's business partners, as well as potentially affecting people's decisions on whether or not to keep subscribing.
Thats not to say that its not true, but like a politician, Jack is constrained in what he can and cannot say.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not just that, but time passes and things change. And that's good. But you can't seriously believe that any company has the same outlook a year later. Any company. Times change, the economy changes, the field that company is in changes. It's not unreasonable to ask about those changes.
And to be perfectly honest, I'm actually a little relieved what with States, Posi and the rest posting so much all of a sudden. I like it when they're vocal with us. So sue me. -

Sheesh, the devs sure are lurking tonight.
Quick! Someone see if they can trick them into revealing more I9 and Inventions info!

I don't think we're as much of a niche as people like to think.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seconded. Before WoW, the benchmark for MMP success was 100,000 subscribers. Admittedly, WoW is a HUGE hit. Gigantic. Perhaps biggest in the PC industry ever, but that shouldn't diminish CoH's place as one of the largest North American MMP's. We're well over that 100,000 mark.
There's no way that NCSoft and Cryptic are going to do anything but continue to give CoH everything we can. I'm still playing, designing and playtesting!
[/ QUOTE ]
Promise?
Please? -
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, I'm still around...
NCSoft (the publisher) and Cryptic Studios (the developer) are still firmly behind City of Heroes. It isn't going anywhere. NCSoft continues to fund a fantastic live team with lots of great stuff to come.
Yes, Cryptic is working on other products. These are different games with different financial backers. We plan on supporting multiple games in the same way that other great developers do.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've seen enough posts stating that Co* is a niche and we like it that way. My concern is that we are so niche we won't stay profitable for ya'll or that ya'll will attempt to add more mainstream junk and take us out of our niche.
Seems that we are in a precarious position. Maybe I'm wrong, I hope I am. CoH was my first MMO, ya'll dragged me out of the dark ages of solitaire and other crap. Maybe I've just got a wee bit too much loyalty to one title in what looks more and more like a fast paced market. -
I fear you and Dysmal are right.
I sincerly hope not, but that's a dim hope after reading that article. They're growing so fast. -
