    Updater slow!!!

Makes sense to block outdated clients.

As it goes I now have transfer speeds up above 100kb/s which is tolerable.

In case anyone else picks up this thread via a search I should list the steps I took, I suppose.

I've set port forwarding for TCP 13094, 6694, 2104, 2106, & UDP 7000-7200 and launched the updater with

    "D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\city of heroes going rogue\cohupdater.eu.exe" -port 13094

I've also disabled (temporarily) stateful packet inspection at the firewall.

Might be worth adding, this is on UK Virgin Media Cable - ISP traffic shaping may be the root cause.

The problem is not with Steam. Just downloaded the CoH base from them at about 295kb/s, the CoH updater is currently running at 9kb/s.

Of course Steam might want to have a bit of a think about why there's 674mb of updates required for a freshly downloaded title but the speed issue is not something they are responsible for.

It doesn't seem possible to launch the game without letting the updater run its course (would love to be told otherwise - is there a command line option to skip the update check?) which is very frustrating - one of the days of my subscription will be up before I've even seen the loading screen.

At least it suggests good news for activity in the CoH world - if this glacial performance is a result of a whole raft of new subscribers there should at least be plenty going on once we are finally able to get playing.

*edit* Just seen this is an old thread - apologies for resurrecting it, came up first on a search, didn't check the dates. Looks like I'm just another UK customer experiencing tediously slow download speeds - seems to have been the case for UK CoH customers forever.
