  1. I never considered Diablo 2 to be 'high' fantasy.

...that's because quite a lot of them fell under very well-timed and excellently crafted phishing emails and clicked the shiny. Part of it was also due to people using the same info on fansites that were hacked.

The launcher problems aren't something I've seen at all, even with the early security issues.

I tried it a little bit and the graphics were just too much to get over for me. Maybe I should give it another go.
  5. I admit, I do get a weird craving now and then... for a good 'god' title like a SimCity/Black & White type.

It was more about the building and crafting on top of automation for me - and no, Minecraft doesn't fit what I am talking about.

Theme Hospital + Dungeon Keeper 2 by old Bullfrog was a hoot.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if they add a toggle to 'Deposit all collectibles' in GW2 Slaunyeh. Then you can play and play and only look at replacement gear drops and then when you are ending your play session just tp to your favorite crafting area and go nuts.

Oh god that does sound good... just for the style/genre. I think I saw about half the episodes and missed the movie.

...like a Cowboys vs Aliens MMO?

I never did see that movie - any good?

Yes it does. The reason it is being brought up so much here is two-fold: it is the hottest most recently released MMO that also happens to be under our same publishing house: NCSoft. I don't know what the community is like on the forums, but in the game so far they are very helpful and nice - as there is no such thing as kill-stealing and everyone is auto-exemplared based on the area they happen to be standing in, if they are on a team or not.

    My own first impressions.

    Annoying.
The Well also inspired all the technology in CoH.

I have more, but they are more recent and I'm sure Castle doesn't care anymore after all the time that's passed since this PM.

  14. To be fair, if you are talking about the original Planetside, it is vastly different from Tribes Ascend and Global Agenda. Actually Tribes Ascend and Global Agenda aren't anything alike and I think they were made by the same dev house. Planetside 2 is almost nothing like the original Planetside when it comes to gameplay.

  17. Maybe this should go in a separate thread, but I'm also really enjoying the Planetside 2 beta. It's missing elements in its current state but the earliest I've heard for a release date is New Year's Eve.

It's a sci-fi MMO - but it's nothing like Eve either. ...actually it's nothing like any other MMO, just like the original Planetside. It IS however somewhat similar to the Battlefield FPS games in its current state - with no game fee or monthly fee.

Yes this is true, but I must admit I can understand the resentment. The genre certainly is more popular than others.

EDIT: you know what we need more of? Country-western themed titles - I never did buy Red Dead Redemption but I was excited at someone taking another go at the genre. I think there is an FPS that came out a little while ago that was too, although I forget the name. Would there be any interest in an MMO of that type?
  19. If anything, it's a good thing, because there is an obvious difference when reviewing assumptions about the title vs the people who actually have it and have played it.

Actually... no, it doesn't. The game still rips you off if you take SOs to a vendor it isn't intended for.

Yes, very true - WoW does this right and GW2 doesn't. Diablo 3 also gets this right. I forget what other games use at the moment.
  22. It's a little different there, as there is no sub fee to speak of.
  23. That's one thing I dislike in other games: having to repair gear. Replacing is one thing but repairing is a pain.

That's the thing, I was explaining how GW2 isn't a fantasy MMO. You argued it was, stated how those who dislike it are considered retarded in my eyes without me even hinting at that, and then stated you are one of those types that dislike the fantasy genre.

I didn't even put the shovel outside in preparation for the hole to be dug.

Maybe this is where we can call a truce and step away from all this silliness.
