  1. around 1/8 inch mostly. Some thicker areas, as needed (fist is solid, probably about 1/4-1/3 inch block).

Armature? Hahaha, I'm poor, I'm using aluminum foil.
  2. Yeah, that's what I've been doing so far, but not only is it slow-progress, at best, but worse still, the warmth from my fingers seems to be somewhat counter-productive, as it causes more lumps to appear where I'm holding the model, while trying to smooth out the lumps elsewhere...
    Meh, I'll keep experimenting!
  3. Anyone have any suggestions on how to smooth out a piece, so it's not so lumpy? I'm thinking I may try getting it as nice, and smoothed out as possible, and then baking it for maybe half the required time, so as to firm it up some, but not fully bake it, followed by some sanding/carving...
  4. I very much appreciate the support of everyone on these forums. It's quite inspiring, actually.

As for commissions, I'm saying 'no' in the sense that I'm not gonna make anyone REALLY pay for anything I'm making right now, as it's not guarenteed to be of fantastic quality. All I ask, if I select your character to make a model of, is a bit of compensation based on the fact that this stuff is kinda pricy. I'm thinking $50 a peice?
I'm purposefully quoting a bit high, 'cause I'd rather drop my price, than raise it.
  5. I know there are many people watching this thread, at this point, so I just wanted to mention, I have started work on my first peice. I know I haven't made a post in here for awhile, so I wanted to keep everyone posted. I'm having some setbacks, but everything seems to be proceeding steadily, if just a tad slowly.
I'm trying to make sure to take pics of the entire process.
  6. I just got my supplies...

Hopefully, I'll be starting on my first model soon. I hope to have it more or less done in a week or so. I'll make sure to post pictures of the process!

Hmm any chance you'd sculpt my gal Djeannie?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Possibly, but I make no promises. Post a screeny or some other art, and I'll consider it!
  8. [ QUOTE ]
    *sigh*.....

OTHERS will be watching intently as well...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't worry, MarDun. As long as I remain confident in my sculpting abilities, I'm planning on doing your character. The armor and long hair will be good practice for me.

That being said, keep in mind that:
    A) I'm making no promises on sculpting him, and
    B) Even if I do, considering I'm interested in sculpting him for armor/hair practice, I can make no promises on it actually turning out well.
  9. I could easily be completely wrong, but I think, perhaps, you're thinking of Super Sculpey, rather than Sculpey III?

I fully intend on getting myself an airbrush kit, if I end up starting to do this regularly (which I very likely may) but I don't have one at the moment, so it's all brush work, for now. I've also heard of the idea of using a pasta machine, and as I'll be going to Michaels to get supplies for this in the near future, I'll definitely look into getting one of those, too, if they're that inexpensive.

Thanks for all the excellent info, keep it comin'!

<resists urge to post screenies just to get in before TA>

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm fairly certain I'll end up getting roped into making one for TA. Unless *gasp* he ends up being too late, for once?

Though I figure I'm likely partially dooming myself, by announcing that I'll be doing it in the future. He'll be watching like a hawk for my next post about it, once he sees this one, I'm sure...

Finally...just so everyone knows...the first figure I'm likely to sculpt, is my own. So even once I get the supplies, I'll be busy for a little while anyway.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
That is great to hear!!! I don't know if you had seen the post I made quite some time ago?

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showf...amp;PHPSESSID=

Keep in mind, this has been a dream of mine for quite some time, and I hope in the future when you are ready- you choose MarDun as one of your sculpts?

In the meantime, you should contact the sculptors in the above link. I have even heard of the very talented Douglas Shuler, aka: DarkJedi taking a crack at sculpting...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did see your post, and was for a long time considering trying to save up the money to get one, but kept thinking to myself "I can do that!" - even if it's not true, I figure it can't hurt to try. Practice, supposedly, makes perfect afterall, right?

I am well aware that DarkJedi has some experience there - it's what most recently inspired me to renew my interest in sculpting!
  12. I only have experience so far with sculpting, not with mold work, so I don't know how well that would work for me. Perhaps we should join forces sometime, and see what we can do together?

Reguardless, this bug has been growing, deep in my chest for sometime, and I think it's reaching the end of it's pupae stage, and desperately seeking it's freedom. I will likely be stopping by the art supply store in the next few days. Especially considering I just took my last final today, and have almost a month until class resumes...
  13. I'm considering getting back into sculpting. I'm most familiar with Sculpey, but I'm not sure how well it would work in doing character models, which is what I'm interested in doing. I used to do a lot of cartoony things with it, the point being that, it seems difficult to get sharp edges with it - at least without baking it, and filing it down.

So does anyone with some experience with the material have any suggestions? Keep in mind, I don't have access to a kiln at the moment, so anything that requires it is not an option.

Also, what kind of paint is best to use? I presume this varies with the kind of clay used...

Finally...no one get too excited yet. I'll be doing some (nearly free) practice sculptures, and I'll be tapping the vast art community of the CoH boards for models to sculpt. But not yet. I'll be posting sometime in the near future (probably around a month or two) about it, when I'm going to be starting.

Keyword though - I am not doing them now. Not that requesting one will make me hate you, and refuse to do it. But don't expect it anyway, simply because I tend to be a tad forgetful about such things, at times.

Edited to reflect that it's spelled "Sculpey" not "Sculpty" because I'm an idiot

OK.. at 8:11 a.m. you say you'll whip out a quick sketch...

At 11:10 a.m. - less than 3 hours later - you came up with that? A 'quick' SKETCH?!?!?

Dude. You are a true Yoda among us...

    [/ QUOTE ]

SERIOUSLY!! Even if I was remotely capable of art that fantastically amazing, it would take me DAYS and DAYS on end to finish a sketch of such quality! Kudos to you, Gill!! lately it seems I'm always waiting with baited breath for your updates!

It is possible to split up the final guys.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Looks like there is a way to pull. We just haven't found it yet.

Now if I could only get a comment about the SHOEs...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would imagine that the pulling strategy quite likely involves splitting the team up into 2 groups - 1 Corr heavy, the other MM, and Taunting Brute heavy, picking your target, and making sure the rest of the group is too distracted to follow...once there's good distance between them, TP Ally the other half of the group over to join the fight...
    ...but I could be wrong...
GOTTA get Crimson Threat those last 6 levels!

Daddy needs a new pair of SHOEs!

again, coralax is not the common foe. the common foe is the battalion which was mentioned in the announcement where they scrapped the skill system for good and announced the invention system.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Who are you to say? Your name doesn't look red. I think the Coralax could, quite likely, be the common foe, being that they hate all life on Earth. (rather than in the ocean)

    Here's Sartori's request...

    Rick Sixx

    Enjoy Sartori!

For my next trick...Polaris' Sucker Punch!!!

Reiko, I'll get that ice fx added for Ria tomorrow. I'm beat from fighting mapservers all night. :P

Man, they just keep gettin' better and better! Make's me super-excited about the potential of seeing one of my guys done in this style.

Speaking of which, BTW, I realize perhaps I implied I was asking you to do all 3 of my characters. While I certainly wouldn't mind it if you DID, I really was only intending to ask for one of them, was just showing you my three primaries for you to pick among as you so choose.

If you can't tell, since I swear they added some contrast to the wrinkles, and lines in the 'old' face I used for Soviet Blok, but he, and Scarlet Sickle look identicle, for obvious reasons. The only difference is in their outfits - which are still strikingly similar, Blok's is merely traditional tights, while Sickles is sinister-looking leather.
  18. If it's not too late, I'd LOVE to get in on this! Especially with at least 2 of my 3 primarys - Soviet Blok , and Scarlet Sickle - my Soviet Tanker, and his Brute-ish Praetorian alternate. Would also love to see Crimson Threat, Soviet Blok's Mastermind younger brother, done in this style, too...though Scarlet Sickle, and Soviet Blok are my 2 priorities right now...

I have a hard time as reading that as anything other than "The EAT from the Expansion set (ie, the "new" EAT) will be unlocked with a SF/TF rather than hitting 50."

A Warshade is not a new epic archtype. Combine this with the fact that this paragraph is actually talking about another epic archtype, referred to as the NEW epic arctype, with the Warshade as an aside (even seperated out of the sentence with a comma) and I find it highly unlikely that he's saying the Nictus will be unlocked with a TF

Especially given that it would seem wierd that heroes get theirs at 50, but we get our clones after a SF.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As I said, it's a bit murky there. Long before the devs ever announced there would be such a thing as Warshades for villains, they said they were never introducing an EAT unlockable by getting to lvl 50 again. However, I assume, and even hope, that villainous Warshades are the exception to the rule, for the reasons you mentioned.

    [ QUOTE ]
STILL, would this mean a new, nifty SF that intros us into the Khelds? That would be nifty if it were true. Just don't think it is.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Agreed...though...what if they just did a Warshade/Nictus ONLY SF, that introduced us to more in-depth content...would be interesting, and fun...
Though I don't mean to imply only Nictus would be able to join, just that they'd be the only ones able to get access to the SF...though then they'd have to do the same for Heroes...which I'm certainly not against, either...

I just can't wait to see the Warshade contact, standing in opposition to Kalinda and Burke in Mercy...speaking of which...
    *GASP*
Do you think villainous Warshades may possibly be able to break away from the tyranical hold of Arachnos??
  20. [ QUOTE ]
villains need to have AT's unlockable at lvl 50

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not going to happen. As the developers have mentioned time, and again, having Kheldians unlock at lvl 50 has, in retrospect, been decided as a mistake, and thusly, no new AT's will unlock at 50.

The only possible exception to this might be the villainous Warshades/Nictus, as those might not be a "new" AT, but I suspect, given the tone of the WS and EAT refferences, that even those will not be unlockable simply by getting a lvl 50, but rather instead, a high level SF.

Now a Workshop (100k), Salvage Rack (15k), Inspiration Store(75k), Enhancement Store (95k) and an Empowerment Station (15k) comes to 300k which is exactly the same amount of prestige you will generate by starting a super group and adding 15 members (i.e. all your Alts). This is not a coincidence.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I cant seem to find the stores or the empowerment station in the menu, do I need something else to get them?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Heh, yeah...wait for I7. They're not in the game yet, sadly.

    Sorry!

Hey Jannus, it turns out that the idea of rogue PB's isn't so hard to believe afterall. Upon my recent review of the PB story arcs, it turns out that there are PBs who have gone rogue. But while I did contradict you, I never claimed I was right

    [/ QUOTE ]

Haha, don't worry, I hold nothing against you. I also often argue points I feel strongly about, but never claim to be correct in. Get's me in trouble sometimes.

Upon reviewing out conversations on the topic, I think I may have implied to heavily that an 'evil peacebringer' would have to be working with the Nictus - which is not at all what I meant to imply, neccisarrily. Though I can picture it, theoretically, in somewhat the same sense that some humans are drawn to work with vampires, in common mythologies, I still see it as being much more likely that they would be more independant.

I have also never, ever, ever ever played a Kheld, so I never claim to be correct about anything I talk about in reguards to them.

I have, however read a lot of their mythology, and think I've got a good idea whats going on there.

Also, in reguards to Centinull: Kheldians, Nictus included, can and do live just fine outside a human host. Even after possessing them. However, they can only live for around 10 years (Nictus likely much longer) thus being their motivation for sticking with a host as much as possible.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
are you sure it's not the invention system?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Positive. "Invention" system was scrapped. Legends is more then confirmed, it's coming in Sept.
  24. All very true, HallowKing.

The fact remains, however, that Avilans (no second i!) have simply been in the works for too long, been confirmed as 'on the way' too many times, and have an utter lack of real evidence of being cancelled, to not be coming soon.

Not that I don't believe there is a certain possibility that they've been scrapped, but until a red name themself posts it somewhere, there's no way I'll believe it.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
I posted about it last week I think. They're only wings as costume options though. They're not the Avilans EAT.

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe Avivilans wont be an eAT but a regular AT. Any thoughts?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes! No. They will be EAT.
