Yeah, the test one is pretty much for learning more intense stuff. Pinnacle will be more for fun and just not really get stupid. Althought I'm pretty excited to see if it(Test Ladder) jumps off, but I still have my reservations about it.
So playing time isn't a big deal anymore. If they can plug me in, I'm good, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm happy with the direction the Pinnacle PvP Community is heading. And honestly, small teams suit me.Just need more participants. MOAR!

ON IT MAAM! Also, the Ladder might be sooner soon as we get the guidlines ironed out. :O

Quote:Neuronia! :P The Pinnacle Cup will be 3 man team FFA still for next season. Thanks for playing everyone.
It was definitely fun playing a disruption toon vs. my usual heal/buffbot and it was very enjoyable fighting vs. everyone.
I'd like to thank Funk and Kiwi for carrying the offense, it was a pleasure setting up KB/Mez spikes to help with your targeting.
Next in line, everyone else including Machina for the 20+ kill caves match, Cloud Surge for the disruption, everyone else who showed up even when shorthanded (severely so in some cases) and made a game of it. LOL @ the Eden map when we are all chasing around Warpus down the tunnels, that was pretty epic and funny.
I hope that everyone had fun. I know myself when you are on the short end of the stick it can be very frustrating but you do learn and you adapt and hopefully you get better too.
Next season is a 4 v 4 season so the format will change less to KSing and open-ended madness to a more focused team approach. Hope to see many of you in the Arena then with your teams. You won't be constrained to your single character either, so that's a big plus for those of us with several builds to bring to the table.
Thanks for the great sportsmanship, see you next season! Oh, I also got a Glad Jav dam/rech in there.
P.S. LF 3 teammates, hopefully Funk, Kiwi and Machina are in that mix for the next season...I'll be rolling my Emp or Therm or Cold or Rad....
Cheers everyone.
What we will have after that is the official Pinnacle Ladder League, which is 4v4 format :P -
Quote:You had me at hello. ;-)You've been trying to make this argument about top tier teams "spreading the wealth" forever now, and it's an absolute joke.
Practically every single competitive FPS that has enjoyed a level of sustained prosperity in the realm of competition has not used an "open" draft, or forcefully spread out skilled players in order to generate a greater level of players on various teams.
Using Counterstrike as an example, the game has simply succeeded by sheer virtue of players joining teams, practicing, taking their losses, gaining experience, moving on to other teams until they eventually find their success.
I for one would love to help the community, but not at the full expense of the level of fun that I'm having. That fun comes partially from the game system, but I stay because of the people that I've been able to team with over time.
Every team that has found success in this game did so through extensive practice, taking repeated losses and eventually finding success, similar to the example I used above with Counterstrike.
My philosophy with helping D6ers to practice wasn't getting them all together onto a team and putting them up against another team. I honestly preferred to take a select few dedicated D6ers, throw them into a D8 match, and have them take their deaths. When you're playing with individuals who have a higher skill level than you, you push yourself further to learn, adapt, and reach their level, if at least to "keep up" with them.
Attempting to get a larger group of inexperienced players and peppering in experienced players in order to create more teams only ends up creating frustration for certain players in the end. It takes practice and dedication to eventually reach a level of success in anything that you do, even a hobby.
I may run my mouth and act like an absolute idiot on the 24/7, but I'll be the first person to admit the astronomical amount of losses I've taken. Many of them deserved, some of them notsomuch. With all of those losses I've taken, I've still come back to play the game and enjoy myself. If someone else is unable to do so, perhaps gaming competitively in this game isn't for them. It's that simple.
I can name plenty of teams that were inexperienced, were laughed at, and were destroyed in practice after practice, official after official. Eventually they came into their own and got the credit that they were looking for. I can think of plenty of players that over time have gained experience and flourished in particular roles in PvP. I know you're bitter that you'll never be one of them, Supermax, but that doesn't disprove my point.
Case in point: Attempting to force a draft on the ladder is a terrible idea, and that's putting my own personal bias aside.
On the note of the league being on test or on Freedom. The pros still outweigh the cons. It's not impossible to generate interest on a live server when all of the PvPers are now concentrated there. With all of us in arena chat, in zones, and doing kickballs on live, it is certainly an attainable goal if that goal is to spread interest to other players on a live server.
Freedom as a fallback server is a great idea, and while I understand that those that took part in the FPvPL have access to IO'd builds, I can speak from experience when I say that many D6ers that joined our team eventually became inactive simply because they could not afford a proper build in order to make them competitive. Playing on test helps to circumvent that issue, and guarantees that newer players that may not have the means to create a "Statesguard ReLoaded" (see: Retarded) esque build for one toon, much less a variety. Not all of us are Peril. Test ensures that if we have the stable of characters, we have the means to see them fully IO'd out, which elevates the level of competition even further. Again, this also creates build diversity, and line-up diversity. Isn't that something that a bunch of you were whining about? -
A successful first season!!!! Moderator 08 showed up! And it was a crazyfest! Well done to all that participated and I hope you all come back for season 2!!!
Congrats to Team Funk for winning it! Stats will be updated in the first page!
Once again, I would like to take this time to thank everyone that stuck through it. Hopefully you guys enjoyed. Next season will be A LOT better, and a lot more insane. Here's to hopefully getting more players involved in the 2nd season.

Quote:Except, the POOL of players for PvP is small. Getting rolled over and over, regardless of practice or not, will drive people away. They can only learn on their own for so long. What's a better tool to learn from? Your own way, or by experienced PvP Players in THEIR team showing them the ropes? Why can't you understand that some teams will still be better than others? Did you also read what Psoma said? 'Cause it's a great point. People will play with their friends. This is supposed to be fun, remember? Any team can do well. Add practice. Boom, good to go. GG
Also, as far as competition, if you're not immediately able to have close matches with top tier teams, you'll still have good matches with others until you get to that point. You're supposed to be working towards something, and what's better than something just outa reach at the time? >.>
That is why so many D6ers improved in the league. It was because of that. Experienced PvPers taught them. Not left to fend for themselves.
Just asking is all. :P
And yes, I get your point. Normally I would agree, but if you're trying to promote more participation, then you can't expect players to have the "patience" or the "skin" to learn the hard way, especially new ones, and expect them to stay when they get steamrolled regardless of strategy and amount of time of practice.
And yes, I agree it's supposed to be fun. I want it to be fun. Who says playing with new players can't be fun? BUT it's not fun to lose. And eventually, this fun will equate to that. Not many new players are like me, where I can take a loss and still have fun. They equate WINNING = FUN. Unfortunately.
You have different experience levels for teams. But eventually people will get tired of playing the same teams all the time just because they equate in the same level of lolPvPSkill.
Anyway, regardless of what is decided, I'm down for whatever. lol -
Quote:Eh. true. :PRight, I'm not sure why you're concerned. Do you plan on being a bottom rung?
It'll work itself out. Some players/teams will be better than others. When there's a swing/shift a #1 team can now be at the bottom. These things can/will happen in time.
If you'd like to propose an "EVERYONE wins" suggestion, we could just all go PvE. That's not realistic, is what I'm telling you. -
Quote:But you can somewhat limit that. You can promote a bit more competition that way instead of the usual lead up to the usual 2-3 top teams that duke it out. Sure, player improve, but if you want to make this successful, then in all honesty, we need to ensure that there is SOME level competition for the new players or whoever else wants to join. Or else you'll be stuck with a league filled with Patriots, Colts, Saints and everyone else is the Rams. They may get better and they'll be upgraded to the Jaguars, but not nearly close with the top tier.
As far as concerns about a some teams being stacked in a way, there's absolutely no getting around that.
Just my POV of course. -
Quote:^------ and this.
The ONLY way to expand the community is to split up the 2-3 top teams and spread the best players among a bunch of new teams. Essentially a full "fantasy draft", if you will. But this has ZERO chance of happening, considering all the ego's in this game. Plus as much as everybody talks about bettering the community, in the end everybody just cares about themselves. Nobody is going to sacrifice his own fun (playing with friends) for the betterment of the community (leaving his friends to lead a bunch of strangers that are guaranteed to be worse than his friends). -
Quote:Eh. At times it got to the point where I was pretty annoyed by her. Sure, the first few times it was entertaining but it got to the point where I was just muting vent because of it. But since I was "new", I really didn't say anything. I'm just a D6er after all and it was the very first time I had participated in any kind of actual high end pvp.Meh we had SOME drama but it was mostly over line-ups:
Doyler and Bleak: Dudes, we totally need to run two-Stalker lineups.
Psoma: I dunno, more Psy Blasters good?
Slax: Sure, our officials are practices anyway
Match time: We're short, we go with the Blasters anyway.
>.<
Frost Elf didn't really add drama so much as entertainment and a different point of view. It's like when you've got your regular group of peeps doing stuff then the "Off the wall girl/guy" shows up and it's really fun at first but then it turns into some weird post-punk Noh play with cymbals and dadaist paper-mache structures.
Rei was fun to have around, she didn't really bring drama so much as...zaniness and oddballities.
(I kinda miss the Russian folk songs, they weren't Healing Hank storytime-right-before-bed-nice/fun but they were great.)

Last match of the season!!!! Let's end it big! Graveyard baby!

Quote:Thanks WULF.Yes, the problem has been fixed. And yes, the Twilight Avengers are planning another sponsored raid. At the moment, the date is not set in stone. I'm on the road a lot for work atm, and I don't want to conflict with other server events (such as the Pinnacle Cup).
As such, I'm tentatively aiming for Thursday, June 17th, at 9:30 p.m. for the next redside raid. I will let you know when we have set the date in stone, but go ahead and mark your calendars...in pencil.
Also, you should join the Cup. >.> -

FYI, the Pinnacle PVP League's ressurection is in the works. This will be separate from the Pinnacle Cup. This is going to be a LADDER format, and it will have more competetiveness. This will require commitment to building viable AT builds to compete. (YOU DO NOT NEED A SUPER EXPENSIVE BUILD TO BE VIABLE) A team setting is a different monster than being SOLO.
This is for those that want a higher end PvP. Team versus Team. The difference between this and the Pinnacle Cup, is that the Cup is for people, specifically new players or players that have been interested in PvP but have been intimidated to get their feet wet and check out what PvP is all about.
I don't want to discourage anyone that MIGHT be interested but might be a bit intimidated by the LADDER LEAGUE, but the best way to learn is to jump in. We have a pretty helpful community, albeit a small one, but it's there. But if you're a player that's interested in PvP, and are still not sure about HIGH END competition, then that is why we've set up the Pinnacle Cup. Get your feet wet and have fun.
This is all to promote a more competetive but FUN PvP experience. However, we all know that at times it does get pretty crazy, but that can't be helped with any type of competition. Just remember this is just a game and we all just strive to have fun.
The prizes will be discussed and I will present them as soon as I get a good idea as to what will be a good prize for the winners.
DETAILS WILL BE OUT SOON. BE ON THE LOOKOUT! I hope a lot will sign up, and I hope everyone, in general, has fun. -

The biggest thing really is getting new players to join, and retaining those players. As well has having a really good number of dedicated players to always be willing to participate.
Also, given the small pop server of Pinn, i'd say it'd have to be 3v3, with 2 bench, 5 max players per ladder team. if not, we can opt for a 4v4, 2 bench, 6 players max. But that's pushing it since we really do have a small pop server. Let alone pvp community.
I'd like to say that Pinnacle at least has a NEWBIE FRIENDLY pvp community, so that's pretty good. It'd give the ones who've always been interested but too intimidated a chance to actually just hop in.
Also, the good players really need to step up and be captains themselves if this is going to be so. So that all the EXP gets lumped up into one team or two. It's to avoid stacking. At least this way, everyone's got a chance. At least, that'd be the idea anyway. Not really set it stone.
I also PROPOSE a Pinnacle PvP University. It's basically a topic for which people interested in PvP that have questions will be helped by the more knowledgeable base. -
a Ladder would be the ultimate goal. I wonder if we can have the CUP as the intro developmental league and slowly transist into the Ladder....HHHMMMM Sorta like the Minors and the Majors....
-
Hopefully we can get 2 pools of 5 teams. 10 teams total for next season.

I will forever remember REI raging at about anything and everything.
