Some belated and pre gratz to a few members of the Dominant Power of Paragon SG. You probably don't know us, but you've likely teamed with us.
Belated Gratz: Ms. Pistol and Sgt. Major
Pre gratz: Wired Celt. he's at 49.2 at this point probably. Help him out if you can and make sure there's an awaken or rez nearby, he'll need them.
Oh yeah Celt, I went there. -
Nothing much has changed for us since I6 I believe, so that one should still be "current". I thought there used to be several more, but, could be mistaken. Anyways, the one for I6 is fairly effective, and is what I've used to get to level 40. I've gone the way of the controlling D3, and can effectively "tank" +2's w/o fluffy.
I'm would not classify myself as an expert, but, if you have questions feel free to PM me. You can always ignore my advice. -

Red Cap: These guys are pretty sadistic in their descriptions, he could just enjoy the pain you cause (as either hero or villain), and jumps dimensions whenever you try to blast him. And some villains may have made friends with him. Or he could be a nice Red Cap that doesn't like all the mean stuff, and wants to help the hero...

After looking at the pets when they were first posted, the gnome was the first one that struck me as cool. Likely because I fell out of my chair laughing the first time I got hit by a fiend's Gnome Toss power. I just figured the pet was some gnome that wasn't all that fond of the idea that he was supposed to strap a lit keg of explosives to his back, and be thrown at an opponent. Made sense to me that he might pal up with the people putting the beat down on his supposed friends, and heroes probably won't ask him to explode. Sort of disappointed by the official explanation. -
I have no freehand skills, and less patience, so I was trying to convert some RL photos to comics to get the sort of images I want. Stumbled across this link here but the results on some images are not so great, others look awesome. Anyone have any suggestions or links they could offer?
In addtion I'm looking for a place in Paragon City I could grab screenshots with a plain backgroud, to allow easy clipping of my character for placement into the "comic". Is there a spot in the City that might work? Tried DA, but, most of the characters' outfit is grey, so it just got lost in the fog. -

Ok, let's schedule an Arena Battle Royale to determine this issue. All those in favor of "Character" vs. all those in favor of "Toon". At least we can then get back to playing the game instead of arguing over why TOON is wrong and Character is right. Geez. That's like arguing over the world being Flat or Round.................................
[/ QUOTE ]
Of course that argument is silly... everyone knows the world is shaped like a giant D20!
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually a valid projection called the Dymaxion map, or the Fuller projection. If I'm remembering correctly Buckminster Fuller came up with the idea, but needed help with the math. You can check it out here.

Either I'm really smart, or just a nerd... *dies*
[/ QUOTE ]
Heh, I get crap at work for using that projection on things, from everybody but my boss, who invited me to his Ars Magica campaign. -

From now on, I'm going to use the term wordhumper to refer to you. It's not derogatory, so you can't object. It means, "Person who loves words".
[/ QUOTE ]
I can object. It is impolite in most conversations to call someone by other then their normal name. No one calls me that so you are trying to rename me. That is rude and can be argued even derogatory.
In comparison the word "Toon" to the general public is considered not derogatory and not rude. It is a word commonly used even by the die hard fans of the very group who it applies to.

But if you relabel my character a toon, that devalues my hard work.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure about that. If they referred to their "hero" or "villian" as a character and your's as a toon, then yeah there may be something to it, but, if the other person used toon in respect to both your's and theirs, then there would be no devalument. Your character would be at the same level as their own in their view. Any devaluement would be in your eyes.
ok, now is devaluement a word? If not, I want credit for it. -

I use toon, simply because my "characters" exist in the pen and paper rpg world. The ones I've created here simply don't have the same feel or intensity.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well who's fault is that?
Each one of my characters has a background and motivation, even if I haven't committed them to text.
[/ QUOTE ]
So do mine, but when you get right down to it, they don't matter. A pen & paper character's background and motivation are important because they'll be integrated in the campaign. This character would do this because of X event in his past, but he won't do that because he's afraid of Y due to Z, and so on. The constructed personality does more than shape the character. It has an effect on the course of events.
In this game, whatever personality you concoct doesn't really have all that much effect. It might influence the powers you pick some. It might affect the contacts you decide to run. That's about it. The game itself progresses about the same way to about the same denouement with a personality you layered on top of your guy for aesthetics.
In a game like Fallout or Bloodlines or Fable or Star Control 2 or Neverwinter Nights or something, where the in-game decisions you make have an effect on the outcome of stories, even if it's just the side quests, those feel like characters.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well stated.
Another part of it for myself, is the rping aspect. Yes I know there is rping here, and one of the guys I play pen and paper games with is heavily into the RP here. I've tried it, but it's lacking something for me. Maybe it's the interaction from sitting across the table from someone and being able to see the facial expressions or hear accents, that I miss. Or it just the smell of cigars and stale beer. -

::Golf Clap:: Kudos to you, nicely done.

Wow, where did we dig up this thread? Posting dates jump from January to August.

Hope you all don't mind my posting here, frequent reader first time poster... as the saying goes. The reason for the first time post was that it appears that the people who could draw seem convinced that anyone can learn, and those who are more graphically challenged tend to believe that this is not quite true. (I include myself within the second group.) Which probably means the truth is somewhere in between, which has also been mentioned. Practice will always make you better, the question becomes, is it enough to make it worth it.
I grew up in a scientific and very pragmatic family, which I have noticed as I get older, has affected my taste in art (If it's not a landscape or a masted ship, I probably won't like it). It has also made me very reserved, with little to no artistic outlets, other than cooking, but that's another story. I'd love to be able to draw well but have neither the time nor the inclination to practice, and as a result I'm slightly jealous (for about 2 seconds) of those that do draw well, when I see example here.
That being said, there are other things that make up for this, that frankly I would not trade for be able to draw; You need to locate these specific 55 trees within 10 cm in 100 hectares of forest, and it's raining and 35 degrees, I'm your guy. You want a sketch of those trees, well.... I'll bring a camera
Finally a thank you to all who post here, both artists and non-artists. This is one of my favorite sections of the boards, great art and sense of community. I was especially touched by the volunteers that created images for another viewer's son. -

If you put in bare legs I want a kilt. Yes a kilt. YOU HAVE SOMETHING AGAINST MEN IN SKIRTS!?

The difference between a man wearing a skirt versus a man wearing a kilt, is only one takes offense if you ask him why he's wearing a skirt.
But I agree, I want a kilt too, it makes me feel, well....

Did Tarzan wear pants? Nope. Woe unto Jane if she looked up as Lord Greystoke was swinging from tree to tree.

Hmmm, I've had the same situation as I come from many years of Pen and Paper games, we just used to say we were playing poker, fewer questions that way.
Now my response to that quisical look about online games is:
"When's the last time you saved the world?"
