    Well my ISP is pretty poor (BT) as I live out in the countryside and so the absolute best speed I can get given wiring and distance from the exchange is 2Mb and we never actually see that good a connection. However the download speed I had using the new loader was about 115Kb/s which is approximately 1/10 of the speed I had with the previous loader. It was using less than 1% of my available bandwidth (and nothing else was using that bandwidth).

    As for the speed you got, all downloaded and applied in less than 1 min. Assuming 5 seconds to apply the download then you were downloading at better than 5.7 M a second. You'll forgive me if I find that laughable.

    Well whoopie-doo for you. Not the experience I, or anyone else I've talked to had. Oh, wait, that's not true. A friend of mine did patch in a few mins but he was still running the old updater. Everyone I've talked to using the new updater struggled.

    I suspect the reason why yours was so fast was due to it being pre-downloaded through background activity and I suppose I could leave the NCsoft launcher running in the background permanently so I can do background downloads too. But you know what? I don't want to. I liked the old (and in my opinion, clearly superior) updater to the new, inferior, model. I really, really wish I'd not bothered changing updaters it and to anyone still using the old updater I'd recommend you stick with it until it fails from lack of support. No sense trading in a Porsche for a Model T.

    As far as I can tell the reason for the new launcher is to get everyone nice and compatible with each other, all using the same launcher, for the server list merge.

    Personally I find nothing redeemable about the new launcher as it now takes approximately TEN times as long to download the same amount of data as the old one did (are you hearing this NCsoft? What was a nice 3 minute download now takes me 30 mins).

    I remember when I was playing the beta for Exteel and had to download the North American NCsoft launcher I thought "I'm glad we don't have to use this piece of rubbish in the EU." Ah well...
