Quote:WAS?!? 'Zis should not be!Just FYI, some more changes coming to the Ninja Run animations in the near future:
- Going to look at the deformation in the spine during some of the jump moves. Looks especially odd on some of the female models because of how the geometry is built/weighted
- Dual Pistols/Claws will be getting a more appropriate set of animations (namely the ready stance and runs)
- "Shotgun" mode will be getting a more appropriate set of animations.
- Shield combat mode (without a weapon) will be getting a more appropriate set of animations.
Jay and Cheryl are also looking into various issues with costume pieces.
It sounds dangerously like "giving the players what they asked for" or "making changes due to player feedback" and we all know that this never happens. The DOOM-criers have told us so... over and over... -
I think she (?) and I are suggesting that someone should not make a "It was my idea and I TOLD YOU SO! Nyah nyah nah nah nyah! You all can bite me" post, when one's idea is not, in fact, original.

Quote:And DCU beat them (at least as far as a public reveal goes). One problem.
Champions Online beat you to the idea by 5-6 months
Given that JDub touted some of the "virtues" of CO during the beta phase (IIRC, if not I'm wrong) he had to know about CO's acrobatics at a bare minimum.
That's why his statement struck me as a "I'm JDUB and I invented Windows 7" scenario. -
Quote:Your understanding was incorrect. It was my understanding that players received a one month credit to their CoX subscription with the magic pack, is that true also with the Natural/Ninja pack?
Only "retail" boxes (real or virtual) such as the Architect Edition or Mac Edition, etc come with a free month. Another option to get a free month is the loyalty program (go to 6 mo billing get a free month, 12mo billing gives you 2 free months). -
Quote:If not, make a macro that toggle between the two.Wow, so yeah. I'm going to have to get really good about remembering to turn it off and turn CJ back on when getting into combat.
I don't suppose there's a way we could have Ninja Run simply suppress Combat Jumping instead of turning it off? So when I engage in combat I can just turn off Ninja Run and still have my (meager) defense? *ducks* Sorry Devs! Still not complaining! I love youuuu! ;] -
Quote:AFAIKI'm at work, so unable to check out the booster pack right now, but I have a few questions
1) The Ninja Run power will work on any character regardless of origin, correct?
2) Is Ninja Run enhanceable?
3) If Ninja Run is not enhanceable, can its effect be further improved with the selection of powers like Swift, Hurdle, or Combat Jumping?
4) If this is the "Natural" origin booster pack, I guess we're out of luck on things like backpacks, quivers, scabbards, etc., huh? Unless maybe (hopefully) they'll appear in a future pack.
Looking forward to seeing the new costume pieces, but Ninja Run is probably what will ultimately make me plunk down my $9.99 for this pack.
1) Yes.
2) No. It's a temp power.
3) Yes.
4) Sadly, yes. I'd expect/hope for that in GR
This pack is so [WARNING EXPLICIT LYRICS] awesome. Putting the videos in the NCStore was a stroke of brilliance that got me to buy it in a heartbeat.
Love /em bringit, the ninja leap costume change and, of course, the ninja run.
I see tremendeous potential for some of those costume pieces, especially if there are "metal/metalic" options for some of the hard surfaces.
In short (too late!) this might just be the best booster pack to date. Thank you devs! -
Lol!
Also FIRST!
Every now and then, it has to be done... not sure why. -
I know it was originally supoosed to be a laser pistol, but there is no reason it could not fire bullets:

I always loved the look of this gun, and would like to see something similarly sleek and futuristic-looking. -
Quote:My thinking is "CoV kicked tons of ***, so will GR".
There isn't any evidence in the track record of our current dev team to support the belief that it's going to suck, tank and sink the franchise.
Heck, even assuming it does suck and will tank, the franchise will be fine. It's certainly not going to drive players away.
I'm as critical of the devs as anyone here when they screw something up.
But anticipating disaster in this situation is just dumb.Quote:I find myself agreeing more and more with Nethergoat lately. I have no idea what that means for the safety of the free world, but I'm rolling with it.
DOOOOOOOOOOOoM!!! -
Quote:Then again, given that it's Jack Emmert, and he has a history of at the very minimum exaggerating, if not outright lying about things he's involved in, generally to make himself, or his product look better, it's just as likely not.I have no evidence towards either side doing it, and I couldn't really hazard a guess at that. However, we DO have Jack Emmert's testimony that it was NCsoft's decision in his interview here. Since I generally don't tend to accuse people of out-and-out lying and since we don't have any NCsoft execs denying this, it's very likely true.

Quote:How did one lead to the other? They are unrelated issues (IMO). I'd be cery curious how you can back up that claim.Arguably Star Wars Galaxy's expansions also didn't help the game to grow, leading to the point where NGE was forced in.

Quote:It's not at all like "paid expansion [major or otherwise], then close" which is what was claimed. So [WARNING EXPLICIT LYRICS] flag thrown (at Brad and his rant).Quote:

Tabula Rasa also had an expansion in the planning stages and released things like mechs in the last two weeks of its life.
Auto Assault had four free content expansions before cancellation, the last one coming about 5 months before it closed.
NCsoft Korea has shut down several of its Korean titles previously, but information on them is sketchy (because I can't read Korean).
It's not exactly "major paid expansion, then close", but a lot of internal development can be promised and completed just before (or even while) the game is on the chopping block. Brad's point was that NCsoft has done this several times. GoRo isn't the first time post-CoV that CoH/V had a separate paid expansion planned either - we just know more about this one and it is more likely to actually appear.
His premise is flawed, and thus the rant invalidated.
As to your article/blog/post, if you're not looking to give the impression that you're anti-CoH, you might want to review your writing style. Not a sermon (or flame) just a thought. -

Quote:So, essentially, you'd like to believe that NCSoft are a bunch of people without an iota of business sense.I'd like to think that NCsoft's commitment to this game is open-ended, that they don't care what happens to the subscriber numbers, that they're going to keep the current development staff at 50 or more no matter what happens, that the servers would never be shut off no matter what happens to the financials. I would very much like to believe that. But I'd have a hard time believing that of any company, and I sure as heck couldn't make myself believe it regarding NCsoft.
So, again, I ask: what metrics has NCsoft set for "minimum success" for CoH and/or CoH:GR, with what deadline, how are those metrics doing, and when and how will we know?
They and every MMO operator, are not doing this for charity, nor out of their goodness of their hearts. Of course they will have minimum acceptable levels of revenue before they cut back on staff or outright can the game. Every company does.
And I'm sorry, the writing was on the wall for TR almost since the day it came out. It was a mess, over budget and poorly received. That's a recipe for getting shut down. Anyone who didn't see that one coming...

Quote:Ahahahahahahahaa... <gasp> hahahahahahahah...hah... heh... wooo... <snicker><chortle><wheeze>.Yes it should be easy. They have professional writters already, so coming up with the story shouldnt be the hardest part for them.
DR/Michelle/Sauraiko, would you care to address this one?
Quote:Setting up the missions would be, but since they get better tools than we get in the AE, I dont see what the problem is. I created a few arcs myself for testing purposes and challenge to see how long my tanks can last. I know how long it takes to create an arc so there is no reason why someone who has better tools should not be able to create better content faster. They could have someone create an arc a day or even every few days and we wouldnt feel so content starved as we are now. Hell even if it was just more dev missions put in the AE that would be better than what we have now.
Ow.
I'm not sure what makes me head hurt more. The banging off of me desk or the reading of that statement.
If writing and creating content were that easy, why doesn't any MMO add 10-20 new missions/arcs per month, genius? C'mon. Think about it. I'll wait...
...
A long, long time, I'm sure. -
Translation: Who cares if you (and others) enjoyed them? I didn't and that's all that matters, for I am The Decider of what is, and what is not, good content.
Because you're wrong.
Short answer: Reverse JRanger.
Longer answer: You're not setting the standard "so high" you're trying to set it solely to your own, personal taste, even when it's been shown that many people disagree with what you would like in the game. I never, ever, eeeeeeeeeeeever want this game conforming to your standards.
Quote:If they did awsome work before then why didnt they continue to do that?
Quote:The past 6 issues have been phail because I know they can do better. I am not saying issues 1-10 have been perfect either but its more dev worthy content than the past 6 have been.
Give up?
How about two FULL boxed sets worth of content?!?
CoH has been out for 5.5 years. Of course players leave to try new MMOs. Heck, counting betas, I did it 3-4 times, twice in the last year. But I'm still here. And many who leave and up coming back after a while. -
Quote:Yup. Me too. Especially Cimerora. I like how ER is now apparently the standard-setter for what is and is not "dev worthy" storytelling.Garbage in terms of dev content. AE doesnt count, 99% of those arcs are crap and you know it. Reused powers ported to different ATs is not content, recolored powers are not content. Cimerora was no where near big enough and the arcs too small and too few. And dont get me started on that epic phail of the M.Bison TF that we got. We flatout told them that TF wasnt dev worthy from a story standpoint yet they didnt change it much. So yeah the past 6 issues were garbage.
Also, assuming that there are at least 1000 MA arcs, and assuming ER's "99% crap" standard is actually applicable, that's at least 10 new story arcs just from the MA.
Given that I, personally, have played at least 2 dozen MA arcs that I enjoyed (and I haven't been able to play much in the last 6 mo), I'd say that number is far, far higher.
But again... ER doesn't play the game that the rest of us are playing. -
Quote:Please name the "several" NCSoft run MMOs that had paid expansions added to them, and then got the plug pulled.Several games in a row now, NCsoft has gone for the Hail Mary pass on failing games: invest heavily in one last major expansion that's supposed to fix all of the problems with the game and make it so exciting that subscription revenues grow explosively. Several games in a row now, when all those expansions did was slow the hemorrhage, they have pulled the plug.
Also, what is the time-frame between them adding the expansion and the game dying?
If you're gonna make accusations, please bring definitive examples.
So yes, I guess there are further questions. -
Quote:Silver bullets. /nodSomething a lot of people forget:
When WoW came out (just a few months after CoH), the boards were awash with, "WoW's going to kill the game!" or various permutations of that...5 years on, CoH is still here. If WoW didn't kill CoH, what can?
Or, possibly, DCUO and/or Old Republic. If those two launch at nearly the same time, and are good, quality games (I have faith in you BioWare), then that combination might be enough to pull enough subs away long-term... maybe. -
Quote:lol.i can help.
The first paragraph is about telling babs he's wrong and that there's a ton riding on gr, because all the stuff we got in the last six issues (you know, ouroboros, cimerora, ae, dominator buff, leveling pacts, merits, power customization, and 2x proliferation) has sucked. It also goes on to tell them (the devs) that their job is easy, and also that they should spend their time fixing the gobs of nonspecific issues with the game. -
Quote:[gonna repeat myself here, buuut...]No offense BaBs but you guys do have alot riding on GR, more so than you realize. The past 6 issues have been garbage.
Past 6 issues have been garbage?
Garbage.
Really?
REALLY?!?
You know, I've often said that you seem to play a different game than the rest of us. This pretty much seals it. The last 6 issues may not have been perfect (though to me, they were mostly, almost overwhelmingly, positive), but garbage?!?
You're either being a total drama-queen, or you're a glutton for punishment. I know that if any game I played put out 2-years worth of what I considered garbage, I'd have been long-gone.
So which is it?
Quote:Considering how easy it is for you guys to make missions (from just looking at how the AE is) there is no reason why we shouldnt have had *** loads of dev content post AE.
Quote:I am looking forward to GR beta but only to know whether I am going to keep playing CoX or to just play Aion only. There are alot of glaring problems in CoX that have yet to be addressed and depending on if alot of that gets cleared up that will determine how well GR does.
Quote:To be honest this will be the first time in all my time being subscribed to CoX that I might actually end up quitting. I been thru all the statesman's vision for the game changes, all of castle's heavy handed nerfs, stood by as our game markets became a ceasepool of greed and corruption, and patiently waited out the lack of real content. Well at this point I am done waiting and hope what you guys are making is worth the wait.
2) The "cesspools of greed and corruption" (corruption?) are due to actions of players, not the devs. Also, the markets are just fine now.
3) You're gonna have to wait another 3-6months.
Quote:So far I am not impressed based on the hero-con stuff and thats mostly due to not allowing you to choose any AT you want to start on any side at creation.
Quote:Not everyone is going to want to go thru the GR arcs just to make a hero brute or stalker, or even a villain tanker.
Quote:The other issue that I know is going to give you guys more grief in the long run is why you guys dont want to merge the hero/villain markets. Essentially what you are doing is going to kill 1 side of the game. These are just a few things that needed to be pointed out as some form of a wake up call. For some of us players yes this is CoX last chance.
