Look, I realize that PlayNC may not have wanted the game on the shelves before the 31st (which I still think is the worst possible launch date they could have picked). But they ARE. People are buying it RIGHT NOW, totally unaware that they cannot play it.

Are you guys following me? Even people who didn't reserve it! Guys just looking for a new distraction, who check out the neato box art, read the back and then buy it, are getting burned when they get home. Every person I've spoken to has said that if that happened to them, they would return the game and spend the money elsewhere, with no exceptions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then I'd blame the retailers releasing it to the public before the actual release date, rather then the company running the game. The CompUSA I pre-ordered from won't let me pick mine up until Monday. I'd say it sounds like the retailers breaking the agreement by misleading people if they're selling it to open retail instead of pre-order only before the release date.
  2. Actually I'm saying you probably misunderstood what you were buying and that it's not really anyone's fault. If you reserved the "game" (as no pre-order was announced then) then that's exactly what you got, the game. The pre-order and two-day head start has been made pretty well known on the City of Heroes sites.

    Like I said, a mistake that's a lesson.
  3. Ah. Then my follow up would be, was the money put down on the game itself (which sounds like what he got) or the pre-order? I'm suspecting the former. And I'd probably say just a mistake that's a learning experience.
  4. Just curious.... how did you pre-order it "over a year ago" when the official pre-order wasn't available until August of this year?

.One quick observation I'd like to make here, in reading through this (and many other) threads where 'fun' is discussed.

Last time I had looked at the posted subscriber numbes, an individual poster in the forum accounted for 0.0005% of the actual playerbase.

As for the supposed "emphasis" on PvP - I think you'll see that it's just ONE part of City of Villains. It has PvE content levels 1 to 50.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    ... 1 to 50? At launch?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    PWNED

    [/ QUOTE ]
Er, no, not "pwned". Where in the quote does Statesman say the game will have level 40+ content when it ships? The devs have already confirmed CoV will ship with level 1-40 content. They'll add 40-50 in the first issue, much as they did with CoH. That content simply won't be finished at the time CoV gets released.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I still say... PWNED

    [/ QUOTE ]

user constantly complaining and whining about the game and heckling the devs..... then posting as to the puzzling question as to why he hasn't gotten into CoV beta.....

    PWNED!

Is the DEV team trying reasons for people droping this game im on a sg and the only time we use are colors is in arna battles this is BS we have about 900mil between everyone in sg we need something to spend it on I5 cut the SG in half alot quit i dont want to lose anymore

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Can I have your stuff?

Sheesh, going to quit a game because you have to click on a single button and enter SG mode. Sounds kinda silly to me.

Come on people, all we know is Lord Recluse said Prestige would be based on doing "stuff" in SG mode. No numbers, and nothing else. Yet you'd think it was the end of the world by some of the posts. Gah, it might be something as easily obtainable by a full team of 8 from a SG running a mission or two a month. Will it be more? Simply no one but Lord Recluse knows. And to make threats about quitting a game about something that is purely speculated sounds kinda stupid.

And if you can't do something as simple as that.... why do you 'deserve' a SG base then (in the eye's of the citizens).

Want an aura... have to do a task in-game to get it. Want a cape... have to do a task in-game to get it. Want the witchy-poo hat... have to do a task in-game to get it. Want SO's... have to advance in-game to get them. Want a Kheld... have to advance in-game to get them.

And yet simply entering SG mode for prestige points is 'unacceptable'.

    [ QUOTE ]

Personally, I think the datamining of time spent in SG mode stinks. I don't know of a single SG out there that uses SG mode over an official SG costume and think it's a bad idea. I would rather have my SG dump 100 million a month in Influence into a base than be obligated to log in my character, enter a door mission, put him in SG mode, then go to bed just so I can build 'prestige' to pay base rent.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My supergroup usually uses Supergroup mode. There ya go, you just met one!

I'm not sure if Prestige is a good idea or not, but I DON'T like the idea of influence buying it. That's all well and good for high level groups or groups that have people with a billion extra influence, but what about low level groups? I have a low level group on Guardian and at this point none of us have any influence at all to spare. I'm not even close to filling up enhancements. I dunno, it just seems to me that Prestige at least allows supergroups of any level to be able to get these, and not just high level people with influence to spare.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Another group as well. A SG I was in almost always used SG mode outfits when we were running missions together. And I know of at least 2 others that use it a lot as well on the server I play on. So, add 3 more to the list.

As for the influence, another thing to keep in mind, CoV is going to have brand new lowbies starting out. Making them have to pay for a base in INF is grossly unfair to them, if the enhancement costs are the same for them as they are in CoH. Prestige sounds to be easily earnable by any level.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
I sincerely hope that the Devs read these postings and determine that deciding prestige based on time in SG mode in it's current form is not the way to go

Make some changes to SG mode, and it would be fine, IMHO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would wonder how this could be determined not to be the way to go, if no numbers or anything like that has been published? How do you know that 'rent' may consist of nothing more then 1 hour a month worth of prestige? Simple fact is, you don't know how much is required, how much you've already accumulated, or how much 'rent' will be. No one does, or those that do can't say. Thus it seems rather silly to be declaring something as not workable, when none of the major details have yet to be published.

    [ QUOTE ]

The emblem is the only thing that has to change. And you don't even have to use the SG's colors, if you had colors on that slot.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, fine, point out THE SPECIFIC ISSUES of JLA wherein Batman and Superman change their emblems.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm looking for the SPECIFIC ISSUE that says CoH is based on the DC universe and all the rules that apply there.......

Sorry, but the DC universe != Marvel universe != CoH universe. Apples to oranges to pears.

So that means that according your new system all that work was for naught.

All those times I hung out with my Sg friends and enjoy their company was wasted.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, all the 1500 hours you've spent in CoH were soley for the accumulation of a SG base and nothing more? Puh-lez. Lets cut the melodramatic stuff. If you're not happy with it, fine, then disagree.
  16. [ QUOTE ]

As long as we're talking comic book exampels, unbder this system AIUI Superman would never get his fortress of solitude nor Batman his batcave...

    [/ QUOTE ]

But don't they also run missions with various Super Groups as well? But, more do the point, this is CoH, not the DC universe.

Is it time for an official declaration of DOOOOOOOOM yet?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I'll second it
  18. [ QUOTE ]
However, I think that if the devs really want to encourage the use of SG mode in-game, then why not offer a bonus for it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    You mean like a base?
  19. [ QUOTE ]

'Being in SG mode' isn't an action.

It's one thing to give a badge for Killing Skuls, healing other players or doing a TF. We chose to do those things because they were rewarding. There was no suggestion of a reward for being in SG mode, ever. Rewarding people retroactively for being in SG mode is like rewarding them for wearing capes or doing the boombox emote. It's completely random. The only reason for doing it is so that a few people can start with bags of Prestige and show off their bases. As someone else said, you may as well hand Prestige out at random if you're going to do that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I believe Lord Recluse mentioned that the player would have to do 'stuff' to accumulate the prestige points in SG mode, not merely be in it. So, it is associated with an action.

As for the badges, they weren't initially known, nor were the numbers. Just like the speculation on prestige. When the update hit Live for the badges (for those not on test) they were greeted with the "Badge earned" message due to datamining.

SG mode has been a part of the game. Just like killing Family bosses have been. You could skip going into SG mode, that's your choice. Just as you could skip killing Family bosses. But, you also miss out on the reward for doing such. It's an active decision the player makes.

    [ QUOTE ]
The limited bits of the prestige system for the base reward seems to be the most fair, taking in account CoH _and_ CoV players.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not opposed to the prestige system as stated, but I'm definitely opposed to datamining (which would also be unfair to CoV players) and think SG Mode should involve more than just a costume change.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd disagree with the SG mode being more. Simply because you're going to have a lot of early level CoV players coming online when it's released. They're not going to be in a position of being able to afford to skip (or take a reduced hit) INF for being in SG mode. The present set up for SG mode is easy and fair. Just click it on.

Now, that being said, I will agree with the point that the costume options really do need to be improved for SG mode.
  20. [ QUOTE ]

Wouldn't Data mining be equally as Hurtful to the newbie villains? Since they also haven't had months to run around in Sg colors...

    [/ QUOTE ]

To some extent. However I suspect just the volume of new (and CoH players) will quickly close the gap. But I do think Pillbugs suggestion of having a cut off date on the datamine would be a bit more fair. Something close to the CoV release date, would keep it even.

But, long term, would it tilt the scales to CoV? Considering how many SG's there are without fully active members in CoH, and you can guess CoV is going to be pretty active for the first few months.

Of course the Dev's have access to numbers that none of us have.

    [ QUOTE ]
I don't seem to hear the outcry about the datamining for badges, or new badges, with issue releases.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's because badges have been awarded for activity that was also rewarding at the time. Being in SG mode was a totally arbitrary choice. It makes no sense to reward it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But, isn't that also true for SG mode? Rewarding something that was being rewarded at the time? Was is immediately visible? No. But the field is there. Just like all the new badges people will be getting when I5 hits live. Data not immediately visible to them, but they'll get the reward based on past actions.

Besides, there's plenty of time before CoV hits. It still gives CoH a 'leg up' on CoV players in that they know in advance what generates the bonus for bases and can start working towards it. CoV players are stuck until it goes live. I suspect it will balance out, over time, with CoV getting the influx of new and active players.

Which is why I disagree with the whole INF for a base bit. That is a _huge_ advantage for a CoH player over a CoV player. How many SG's have multiple 50's in them, with tens (if not hundreds) of millions of INF? Every CoV player will have 0 INF when CoV starts. Gross unfair advantage.

The limited bits of the prestige system for the base reward seems to be the most fair, taking in account CoH _and_ CoV players.
  22. Nice post Crazy.

It's not like Lord Recluse is asking people to cut off their index finger to get a base. It's something simple, and optional. I don't seem to hear the outcry about the datamining for badges, or new badges, with issue releases.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
Just because you're in SG mode doesn't mean you automatically get Prestige. You still have to do things.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A question about this and the upcoming datamine. What if a hero has changed SG's? Since the hero has to 'do things' to earn the Prestige, is it tied to the hero or the SG? In other words, if a player left a SG for another, would that Prestige go with the player (both before datamine, and after)?
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Out of interest, does ANYONE think datamining this is a good idea?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Doesn't bother me in the slightest.
