This interview is a must-read for anyone who still has doubts about the in-game advertising. I seriously doubt it'll sway the opinions of the Tin Foil Hat Club, but it'll hopefully ease some of the concerns that the sane, rational players might have.
I'm 5-starring this thread; I hope that I don't later regret that decision once more people read the interview (y'know, if they even bother before coming in here to run about, their arms flailing in the air).
Edit: First between two redname posts

You're entitled to your opinion on the matter, just as much as the dissenters. Don't be so quick to disparage others who's opinion differ from yours. Name-calling and insinuating ignorance of others completely invalidates any argument you're attempting to make. -
This seems to be the key to the whole thing, right here:

What it can't do, is play effects on anyone else. The powers system determines if a power hits or not. There's no way for something on your player model to know that you've actually hit anything...no bits for it to inherit and trigger the right animation (hit anim bits play on the target)...no way to know where to put the FX if it could be triggered. Same thing with continuing effects. The power system keeps track of when the attributes are true or not, whether or not to play the continuing effect, what effects script to play, and what to play it on...you, the enemy, a bunch of enemies, your team...whatever. That information doesn't go to the player. So attack effects and activation effects...we could do similar to custom weapons. But hit effects and continuing effects, we can't.

Because if I'm correct in what I'm understanding, you're quasi-confident you could use similar "invisible weapon" methodology that you used for WC to allow me to shoot a green & white fireball toward a Bone Daddy or something, but once the animation for fireball started on the Bone Daddy, it would be red and yellow (default colors). And, subsequently, any DoT to the Bone Daddy (when his abdomen is on fire) would remain red and yellow, because those are the default values you've had in place. This is all because the animations for fireball exploding and the DoT (gut on fire) never reference the variables from the player that contain the customized colors (green and white, in my case)?
Is there no way to scotch-tape some values about colors into the power system, so that when the Bone Daddy calls the hit-by-fireball animation, it pulls the custom colors along with the damage (or other) values? Because, obviously the powers system should be grabbing values from the player about damage enhancement values, etc....
What about creating another parameter in the power system (set to TRUE or FALSE) that indicates the player character that is executing the power on the enemy has assigned custom color values for that power...and then having the animation check that boolean value -- if its true, then check the character's costume attributes to see what those colors are, if not than don't check.
I dunno, I'm sure I'm oversimplifying things. Logically it feels like it should make sense. Logistically it might be too big of a project with the current infrastructure. What about just trying one power set at a time, BaB? Like Energy Blast primary for blasters. That way its not such a huge undertaking. -
Anyone have the numbers on what they do?

Yes, I did reboot, still same problem. I must be the only one having this problem, still getting the "cant connect to DBserver" error. I am able to sign on and get to the server selection page, but click on any server and get that error after about a 20 second hang. This is the first time I am trying to connect at school on my laptop, any magic fix anyone knows of?

hmm, 1st time on school network might mean a firewall blockage. surprised it would get that far if that was the case, though. -
**Open the door, steps outside**
"What is this.....strange place?!"
**Momentarily tries to cast Personal Force Field**
Thx for the tip, just needed a minute I guess. -
yep, works now. thought maybe i was one of many, turns out that wasn't the case.

I'm getting an error when I try to connect to Liberty server that comes back with "Can't connect to DBserver"
Tried 3 times so far.... -

My biggest pet peeve is the new sonic graphics. I have no problems with cast able shields but sonic dispersion isn't the greatest change. The sine waves are fine but the static effect when it pulses makes it where I can't see anything. If you all can remove that it would be great.

I was thoroughly enjoying the wonderful new content until our team had a Sonics toon join. After a few minutes, the static effect was enough to make my eyes hurt quite badly. The static is too dense and you literally can not see what you are fighting. Combine that with the dreadful sounds of sonics, and it a headache and a half waiting to happen. But I guess I can avoid teaming with any sonics because of it.
Beyond that, the invasion event is truly spectacular. Well done!

I disagree, I played on a few "piles" of heroes who had the sonic dispersion bubble active, it looks freekin awesome to me, and I had no problems seeing what I was fighting (well, no more problems than when the sonic bubble wasn't there). The shields look fantastic, as does disruption field. I love the bubble effect of sonic dispersion, and find it no less (if as) intrusive than the dispersion bubble from FF.
Mark me down "PRO", I love it. -

Second, I hope the Rikti forces dropping in the newbie zones (Mercy Island/ Galaxy City (which sees very few high level characters)) will have the Rikti level appropriate otherwise there will be a slaughter of new characters as they try to get to their missions.

Ah... brings back memories of the Rularuu invasion. *sniffle*
They were in all zones, and level appropriate... but still as tough as nails. They still were slaughtering lower levels whole sale.

That was awesome, actually. You'd get a few people together, go after some white minions who would just destroy you immediately and ruthlessly, lol.
And these where the days you could rack up XP debt before you dinged lvl 2!
If this brings anywhere near the level of frantic running and rampant death as the Rularuu, totally worth it. Make AP thier central invasion point
