  1. I've never enjoyed farms before, especially the ones in PI where you're asked (told) to doorsit.

But in MA I found an arc that had a great map, challenging mobs, and I really enjoyed playing it. (All the mobs had the same powers that I did, but were of higher level.) It may not even be a farm, for all I know.

But after I played this arc once or twice, something weird happened. I did my usual search for it, and it didn't turn up. I made sure that my button regarding completion and voting were uncheck, so it should have been called up because I knew the key word it used.

At first I thought maybe it had been reported as a farm and deleted. But then I remembered the arc's actual name and placed it directly in the search mode -- and, wah-la, there it was!

Does anyone know how its possible that an arc doesn't show up when searching for it ... even when you know the key word? Is this a bug? Or can an arc "hide," either for personal use or while you are still building it so it doesn't get played while you're testing it? (Some people, I understand, prefer to build and test arcs on live, because they get real tickets instead of virtual.)

P.S. This thread is not about advocating for or against farms. (Plenty of those kinds of threads out there already.) I used the term "farm" because I knew it would attract readers, both for and against. (As I said, this arc may not even be a farm.) Thanks.
  2. I just discovered the many advantages of Bronze rolls and salvage rolls. But the salvage rolls leave me confused.

They have three levels of drops for both magic and tech common salvage. I looked in Wiki and it just lists common salvage but not by level availability.

Does anyone know what's available in each of the categories?
  3. There is NO chance that real life marketers will rip you off. They are rock solid and dependable, and always there when you need them.

That's why if you put them on ignore, you will never get another spam message while you play CoH. Each has one and only one account, which never varies.

For even faster service, you can post your credit card number here, along with your social security number, your birthdate, your phone number and your street address.

    Good luck to you.

Nothing in this game needs to be balanced around the ability for a lvl 4 to be able to easily team with his lvl 50 buddy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But it needs to be balanced around your dislike of a particular type of broadcast spam in Atlas?

The game has been designed to accommodate people who want to play together, regardless of character level. First it was sidekicking, then came the exemplar system, the GM code, auto-exemping, and so on, right up to MA's level adjustments.

I really don't think the developers are going to do a complete 180 on that design philosophy, just because you can't find a "sewer team" in Atlas Park.

Do you remember a time when there wasn't any such thing as a sewer team? I do. There's nothing saying the practice can't vanish as quickly as it appeared. Given the purpose of sewer teams--to blow through those early levels as fast as possible--I wouldn't be surprised if MA makes the routine obsolete, with or without the involvement of 50s.

But, assuming sewer teams aren't going to go the way of street hunting in Brickstown, you have options, as a player, to deal with broadcast spam and find the kind of team you want. You can separate broadcast from other channels by putting it in its own tab. You can then filter it with /ignore. You can use /request for your sewer teams. You can even utilize server-focused globals for team building and the server forum for scheduling.

If you've done all that and still can't get that sewer team going? Well, maybe it's time to entertain the possibility that the practice is just on the way out. If that's what's happening, driving 50s out of the Atlas AE won't change it.

Ultimately, if you're expecting the developers to cater to your convenience and narrow play preference at the expense of the convenience of the broader player base, well... don't hold your breath.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Several good ideas here. I especially like (and will use) the one about putting broadcast in its own tab.

This kind of attitude and these kinds of words have no place in a civil discussion, no matter how heated that discussion gets.

It's also a lame form of debate, filled with sound and fury ... (and you know how the rest of that expression goes)!

You are better than this. And your arguments are better than this. Please try again ... but without all the belittling and name calling.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Sure:

It's a terrible suggestion that destroys one of the best and most innovative features of COH. The one the defined this mmo as one the breaks the mold: the sk system.

It's as a terrible a suggestion as level locking PI and Grandville, which aren't at all meant to be hazzard zones.

The devs intend for folks to be able to go from 1-50 in the MA, which basically NECESSITATES the MA being in Atlas.

Folks that don't like the key feature of the game: that lowbies and highbies can team without restrictions need to find another mmo, as that feature is NOT going away.

    Better?

EDIT: Further more there are many options to alleviate people's "I can't stand the b-cast spam" problem without destroying COH's teaming. Cause it most certainly is their problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Absolutely better.

And by the way, I happen to think you're right!

And there are other legitimate reason for MA to be in Atlas:

    1) There are only so many sewer teams one can do before getting bored.

    2) Without travel powers, getting missions in Atlas that make you run from one corner of the map to another, isn't just boring, its frustrating.

    3) Even when you're not teamed up with a higher level, its fun to be auto boosted in level and fight against new toons. (But just like fighting in sewers its better when you have at least a couple of attacks under your belt.)

  7. back on topic what else could it mean? because I went to play one arc and I couldn't enter it. when I clicked on it nothing happened.

BUT when I went back later and still couldn't get in I noticed that the count on the game had gone up. doesnt that mean that others were able to play it and that the arc isn't broken. this make no senseto me. why can they get in and i can't.

Frankly I put HA in a group which is neither critic nor troll, but someone who simply is overly critical.

I think this is a fair statement.

    [ QUOTE ]
Teachers come at assignments two ways: Either they look for ways to mark a perfect paper down, or they look for ways to mark a mediocre paper up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Given you're use of the word "we" here, I'm assuming your a teacher. If that's the case, I won't disagree with you -- you have real-world experience that I don't.

On the other hand, reviewers here for the most part are not teachers. So I don't think the same rule applies. If I like something I want to rate it as high as possible because I want that author to keep turning out arcs. (I haven't created any myself, yet.) I just like playing them. On the other hand, I've played enough really bad arcs to one star them without having to finish the mission.

    [ QUOTE ]
Of course in the context of ~this~ discussion, the only difference between a stretched for 1 star and the spiteful 1 star is that the spiteful happen a LOT more.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hope you're wrong here. I have given out 1-star ratings, 2-star ratings, 3, 4 and 5. Given that each account holder can only rate an arc once, regardless of how many alts they play, I refuse to believe we have more spiteful griefers playing CoX than players who give out 1-star ratings just thinking that they deserve them.

At least, I sure hope we don't.

You start off by saying that you may paraphrase BUT everything you attribute to Heaven is in QUOTES. Quotes mean that something ISN'T paraphrased.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Did you keep reading to see when I did quote all of it? Because what he's paraphrasing is a very close approximation of what was said if you choose to look for it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I must need glasses. Because when I read the whole review, I didn't see what Witch was talking about. Sure, I saw some of the quotes, like the commas. But he carefully selected what to quote - and left out the meat of what was being said.

I bet if I carefully selected quotes (not even paraphrasing, but actual quotes) and eliminated all the nitpicks, even YOU might not want to place this arc.

Let's give it a try, shall we:

"Unholy Spawn of Two Exploited and Poorly Implemented Themes, Poorly Designed and Overpowered Custom Characters, Plot Holes"

"This arc, perhaps intended to be an epic tale, simply comes across as contrived and boring. Its poor use of difficult themes accompanied by the upstaging of the players due to overpowered NPCs and a plot not focused on them or their abilities leaves little for players to do and no challenge to be had."

"* Exploited Theme: Using time travel as an excuse for an army of EBs ... there's no other way to say it. That's weak."
"* Unholy Spawn of Two Exploited Themes: Your implementation of Time Travel is done poorly. Then you combine it with a poorly implemented cloning theme."
    * Excess Clues ... don't feed us what we can see for ourselves. You repeatedly add clues that provide no benefit to the plot, and in fact inhibit the plot from building properly."

"Red Blur: Much too powerful as an EB. Able to defeat mobs on map solo and upstage the player."

"A custom character that put Speed Boost on you is a bad idea; some dislike this power for very valid reasons. Very bad when custom mob is a rescued hostage that can't keep up with you once power has been used."

"Plot Hole: 1960s Paragon City was never in ruins as presented. Even in relation to this story, how could I time travel to such a reality"

"Poor map selection. Map theme clashes with enemy group;"

"If there's anything worse than one overpowered ally, it's an army of them. Especially when they not only overpower the primary EB, but the army of EB clones as well."

"Dr. Aeon being the benefactor behind a time travel plot isn't surprising. Maybe a custom villain would be better."

"This mission is designed extremely poorly; if I could rate it separate from the rest of the arc, it would receive 0 Stars."

"Missions should be designed as a challenge for the players, not so they can watch a show put on by NPCs. I didn't activate any powers during the course of the mission after rescuing the first temporal clone."

"Anticlimactic ... remove this mission entirely. After the EB armies battling it out, this is a contrived conclusion at best. The big fight is done, the plot has already come to a head; this mission limps along as an afterthought, and is not a good way to end things."

    "Mission Clues -- ... repetitive."

Selective editing means that someone has an agenda. Mine here, is just to show how selective editing can make somethign sound either better or worse than it is.

That's what Witch did to HA's review. And that's what you do when you select key "weak points" in HA's review, or make comments on everyone's comments.

If you've gotten 300+ plays on your arc and average 4 stars, you must be doing something right. So stop whining when someone doesn't like it. That's there right.

As for humor, what you think is funny, other people may or may not find funny. I LOVE Monty Python. My wife, she doesn't really get them.

Stop trying to prove yourself right and others wrong. You can't please everybody.

    DB/WP or DB/SR?

    [ QUOTE ]
Just make sure you realize that DB/SR is going to be a very tight build.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have a DB/SR who just reached 22 and got SOs, and he's a lot of fun.

Several people have said that DB/SR is a very tight build. Can you give me an example of a good build for this toon?
  11. Sometimes I click on a MA mission, hit the Accept Button to play ... and then nothing happens. Try over and over, same mission, nothing happens. No entrance to mission.

Try another mission, do the exact same thing, and the contact becomes available.

    What's going on? Anyone know?
  12. [ QUOTE ]
OK having looked over Heaven's Agent's review of the arc, and seeing what ludicrous things he's docking stars for, I'm absolutely convinced he's just a troll - nobody can actually be this petty and overanalytical and be serious about it.

Some highlights include (paraphrased, and this is only a handful of them):

"Arc did not go in depth to explain every nuance of Red Shift's time travel plugging all possible interpretations of it against possible plot holes by over analysis of the arc"

    [/ QUOTE ]

After I read this, I couldn't believe a word you said.

You start off by saying that you may paraphrase BUT everything you attribute to Heaven is in QUOTES. Quotes mean that something ISN'T paraphrased.

So I don't believe you when you say Heaven "griefed" this arc because it didn't meet EVERY NUANCE and ALL POSSIBLE INTERPERTATIONS ... and OVER ANALYSIS ...

I believe those are your words, not his, that you're placing in HIS quotes.

And if you can't believe the messenger, you can't believe the message.

The fact that you and your SG all played and loved an arc doesn't mean that everyone else will - or should. The intensity of your anger at Heaven for what is, basically, his opinion leads me to believe that you are NOT some disinterested party defending a stranger's MArc.

Don't know what your hidden agenda is, but I don't believe a word you say.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Tried one of the Dev's Choice arcs. First mission I get ambushed by an Elite Boss with no warning at all from the contact. I don't run on high difficulty ratings either.

How is this supposed to be enjoyable? If your missions are supposed to be challenging or related to larger team size, tell us something like: "Hey Neuronia, I have an urgent matter but this will prove difficult. Please consider bringing along some help."

That way, I'll know to avoid it if I'm on a low-damage type.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have tried a couple of the Dev Choices mission too and been somewhat disappointed. To me they seem either overly long, very tough, or very familiar in content to what the devs have created themselves. I suppose that makes sense, though. Since if they like their own work, why wouldn't they like work that tries to replicate it or extend it?
  14. I tried two of your suggestions - Time Loop and Wicked, Wicked Wonderland -- and both were enormous fun!

    Keep your recommendations coming!
  15. I have taken careful notes here and now have infinite ways to promote my arc.

Unfortunately,, I have not come up with a good arc idea yet to create, let alone promote.

Oh, well. At least I'm having fun playing some of yours.
  16. You are one SICK, TWISTED INDIVIDUAL.

I played your arc, and REALLY enjoyed it ... and when I saw this I was like, wow, man, good arcs really can get noticed and get a Dev's Choice. WRONG!!!!!

Anyway, I hope you do make a seequal. Because I think if you did more with Wonderland like your talking bombs, you really wold make DC.

I 5 starrd your arc. And I'm 5-starring this thread ... purely because of YOUR UTTER NERVE in posting it. lol.
