  1. I use numberpad for 3 trays of powers (normal numpad, alt-numpad, ctrl-numpad) and also for selecting teammates (shift-numpad).

If I need a specific target I will click on him, but most of the time I either just use a key to target or target through a teammate. I move around similar to an an FPS, with keys for forward/backward/strafe and then the right mouse button down to use mouse for turning.

I honestly have no idea how people can click powers all the time. Seems like it would get old pretty quickly.

If you don't always carry breakfrees, you can use this bind too:

/bind shift+delete "inspcombine luck break free$$inspcombine sturdy break free$$inspcombine awaken break free$$inspcombine catch a breath break free$$inspcombine respite break free$$inspcombine insight break free"

That will convert small inspirations that you have 3 or more of into break frees. Then press the delete key to get out of the mez effects.

Of course, magnitude is another issue. If Ghost Widow has you held, this probably won't help - but for a run of the mill council mission, it can save you an embarrassing defeat at the hands of a single boss.
This is the best advice I have seen, including the bind. Breakfrees are cheap/free. And are almost a requirement if you are trying to solo. I'll bust out a breakfree on anything but an immob.

Breakfrees combined with MTBTMY (Mez them before they mez you) will get you very far. Especially combined with some sort of stealth so you can mez before the alpha strike.
  3. Okay I gave it another go in Mids, would love to hear what you have to say. I dropped Poison Gas Arrow and Tactics, which isn't a huge loss except for the set loss on fortuna.

  4. These posts are great. I especially like your attack chan explanation.

I currently use a stealth proc in leap to get to a spawn, run seeds, then acid arrow and then roots. If the alpha strike is a hard one, I will hit them wiith EMP. OSA, Creepers and Fly Trap add to the damage and I pick off attackers with ice arrow. I run at +2x4, but normally lower it on teams.

    Thanks all!
  5. Here is my current build for Sour Weasel. He is my main toon so therefor have no problem dumping gobs of INF into the build. I would like any input.

Also, is there a time in which using Disruption Arrow is better than Acid Arrow or vice versa? It seems to be that except for the wider effect on disruption arrow, acid arrow beats it in all ways. But maybe I'm reading this wrong?

  6. Spirit Tree does come in very handy on the backlines to give the squishies a little extra healing and also if you are just running a duo around.

I would still like more input on my i19 version of the build if anyone would like to help!

At level 1, you start out with an immob to set up containment. This was the first controller I've had that was one-shotting enemies in the tutorial. It was fun.

Then, you get a wonderful synergy between Seeds and Flash Arrow. Basically, you can stop worrying about taking the alpha when you use Seeds because the enemies can't see you coming.

You'll spend most fights using Flash Arrow-> Seeds-> Roots -> TA debuffs and then using your two single target holds to lock anything down that has avoided confusion. Redraw hasn't been a problem so far, the combo is however super duper clicky. You'll have filled your bar by level 16 and will have to resort to complex binds in order to leverage all your powers.

With i19, I've picked up Aid Other because my support seemed lacking.
Funny, I never use Flash Arrow. (Didn't even take it).

I usually start with Acid arrow or seeds. If I have a strong team I won't bother with the seeds and just use the holds and acid arrow and keep the seeds for ambushes and the like.

I understand how it can feel like an unhelpful class. Not a lot of damage AND all you are doing is holding things in place, if your team can't kill them you'll be in pretty bad shape.

  8. I know this post is somewhat dated, but seeing as how I don't see very many Plant/TA builds out there, and as I'm new to the game, I thought I would post my i19 respec of this build.

Some changes, my build uses combat jumping instead of super speed. I also slotted Strangler a little earlier on my build because I think it might be helpful to those leveling the character to put some Damage IOs while leveling...

I'd like as much advice as possible!

  9. I'm relatively new (a couple months). I played through 35 levels as a Scrapper and decided it was boring just running around and hitting things, so I created a Plant/TA (lvl 41 currently). Here are my opinions:

    * Very hard to solo. Would be easier if I took a secondary that had some decent attacks. I haven't really figured out the best way to attack things, but normall some form of debuff (disruptor arrow/acid arrow), SoC (confuse), Roots. Repeat. With my flytrap buddy with me I do a lot more damage, but in general I find its basically just me messing around waiting for roots to recharge.

    * Flytrap and Creepers are good, but the run speed is just too slow for me usually. I'm about halfway through a mob before creepers decide to catch up to me. Not sure how they work as far as speed.

    * Teaming up is VERY useful. The bigger the team and the bigger the mobs the better. Personally, I'll sit back with the squishies and use roots and debuffs. If something gets close I will ice arrow/entangle it and usually someone will take advantage to arrest the defenseless foe while I go back to debuffing and holding things as much as possible. I might open with a confuse if their are a lot of foes in the area, but a lot of times I just keep the SoC in my pocket for special occasions and just let roots/creepers do most of the dirty work.

    * Spirit Tree can be useful in certain situations. If you find that the going is tough or you are going to be facing some tougher mobs, its a good thing to set down initially. It also makes a good "rally point" for the team. And its necessary if you are trying to solo a boss. When I'm done I always dismiss it, I think that might make it recharge faster?

    * Really I must stress that the early levels can be really slow and depressing solo because of the lack of doing damage. If you plan on taking Plant, don't take TA as your secondary (as cool as it looks).

Okay, I'm a relatively new player so just giving my input and hope to learn from whatever people nitpick out of it.
  10. Thanks everyone for all of the great information. You've been very helpful.
  11. I picked up CoH/V and started a character. I am totally new to MMOs. Anyway, after playing for a month or so I've found that the game tends to just sort of pop me into different cities and stuff and there isn't a lot of past info. Am I missing something? I want to start up a character and sort of play through the game linearly a bit?

    Any advice?
