Well the colorist pretty much has to decide where the light source is coming from if it isn't clear. Even if it is clear, there might be many options for what that light source might be like. If there are shadows trailing away from an object--does that mean it's mid-day and the sun is shining? Or is it night time on a roof and shadows are being cast from ambient light from the street.

The art part of coloring is making the choices and imposing an aesthetic on the scene. With comic style art, you're generally going to pick colors that will support the essence of the character or characters depicted, unless there's a strong narrative thread that has to be followed.

The craft part of coloring hinges on rendering technique. In general, good rendering simulates real world lighting conditions where the transition from light to dark establishes the volume of an object. Shadows and reflections help establish where object are in spatial relationship to one another. Surface highlight and texture helps differentiate materials being rendered (eg. is it spandex? Leather? Latex?) Establishing your light source(s) is basic to that. The exception would be ambient light conditions but that would be much more advanced to do well.
  5. It's your art Cashoo, feel free to show it to whom you like

I think I might actually change the idea and have the good with and bad witch in there.

Here's an update on the Comrade Hero sculpt:

Ok so I was working on an image for the sketchbook. It's the one of Vivace on top of the giant...rooster. In the process of working on it, I made the rooster robotic/steampunk and kind of tapped into a Wizard of Oz sort of vibe with the emerald city in the background. So Vivace would be Dorothy, the rooster would be a stand in for the tin man, and I was thinking of putting in two other cox characters to be the cowardly lion and the scarecrow.

Any suggestions? Doesn't have to be gender specific.
  8. She's trying to make ends meet while working through a huge backlog of commissions so I doubt that will be any time soon.
  9. So sorry to hear that Kheldarn, 54 is too young. My condolences to you and your family.

Here I started doing post work on the base render in Photoshop:

The tail is usually something I put in last after I've figured out where everything else will go. I'll draw it in Photoshop along with the hair, etc.

Two more views. I think I will be moving on to the 2d postwork next.

The second one could obviously be lit better but I think I will be going with a medium shot for the layout of the piece.

Thos assets apparently rubbed someone the wrong way and the image got removed from Photobucket, lol.

    Here's a posed update:

Moving things around messed up some of the detail I had sculpted earlier but it's coming along.

Here's more work on Kitty's assets:

The hands and ears are really just roughed out and the strands of hair are a temporary mesh to help me visualize where I'm going to place things.

Keep up with the good work, BW! You are definitely getting better and better with each project!
The teeth are some stock teeth I threw in there while modeling the mouth. I think they were originally from a male model lol. This was just a rough to show people the sort of thing I'm working on at the moment.

I'm doing a lot of work in ZBrush right now. Some of it might lead to animation projects in the future but at the moment I'm using 3d meshes as a base for 2d images. This is an example, with raw geometry on the left and post work on the right:

For event money, run tip missions for hero/villain merits. Have them set on an easy level (they're not hard to ghost). So you can get a merit every 2 days, spending maybe 30 min each day doing the missions. When you get a merit, cash it in for the 5 random rolls and then sell what you get. People are typically making 50-100mill on sales doing this.

Alternatively, earn merits for something that is selling well, like maybe a LotG +global rchg or a numina +end+reg (both cost 2 merits, so 4 days to get one). And then craft and sell it on the market.
