    So it's impossible then

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah, now.. I didn't say it was IMPOSSIBLE! Anything is possible, given enough time, money, and programmers. It just doesn't fit in with the info I have.

Of course you could have power customisation in another way. What if you picked the asects of a power and then the system worked out the cost in endurance.

So for example you start off as a Fire Blaster, you get Fire Blast and then choose to customise it. You pick the Damage, Accuracy base, range, Cast (minimum based on graphics) and recharge times and the system then works out the endurance it'll use. You can make it a Super powerful, long range quick recharge power, but one shot and all your blue will be gone. Would be fun and frustrating, maybe at a respec you'd get to change it when you realise how big a mistake you made

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think that would be way too big a change for the current game engine. You're talking about a fundamentally new powers system there.

Yes, iron man, spawn, those kind of heroes. But i want villainous champions. Champions don't have to be heroes by definition.

    I want to do evil

    [/ QUOTE ]

A villain and a champion are contradictory. What you want is to be a villain, and you won't be getting that.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
Not at launch, but villainous champions are planned.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's a bit of a contradiction there. Dark Champions aren't villains, they're still good guys. They just have more... direct... methods of dealing with crooks.

Allegedly CoH was to have PvP & Villains in from the start

    [/ QUOTE ]

CoH wasn't even planned on having PvP at the start, and certainly not player villains.

The CO devs are talking down the prospect of player villains: they consider CoV was near-disatarous for CoH, and they don't want that to happen again.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually Praf, if you take Emmerts words as gospel, then PvP WAS originally planned from the outset; they just were unable to implement it until issue 4.

As for CO, I don't think villains are in the offing at all. What IS in the offing is "Dark Champions", which contrary to a lot of peoples misunderstandings, are not player villains. They're anti-hero types along the lines of Punisher or maybe Deadpool types.

    CAnt start CoH

But it seems to only be YOU on the forums who gets this problem. Can it therefore be blamed exclusively on the forums?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's a combination of the forums and posting from work. I still get errors and timeouts from home, but I never seem to get multiple posts from anywhere except work.

And yet, I get zero problems on other forums from work.

    You're quite welcome.

That's commonly caused by driver corruption; either video card drivers, or sometimes motherboard chipset drivers. Try reinstalling them.

No. It isn't. Technically or otherwise. It's a compatibility layer, providing DLLs in the place of the Windows ones Linux doesn't have. Nothing is being emulated at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

DLL's which translate calls to Windows drivers into ones which the Mac can understand. Whilst it may appear to be a compatibility layer, if it's translating one thing into another, which it IS doing, then it's implementing a form of emulation.

Still, wild speculation is always fun. Personally, I'd love to be able to (finally) customise my pet robots for Little Jenny. As much as I love my botsies, having them look the same as everyone else's makes my mastermind feel just a little less special.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My robotics MM got her bots from Best Buy. Special Christmas offer, you know.

If this is what I suspect it is, it's yet more confirmation on stuff I've known since just before Christmas. This makes me happy as it means the rest of it is even more likely to be true now!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ok, I have to ask FFM, what do you think it is?

With this news and of course GR, suddenly I'm not too worried about i15 being pretty light

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, going from what I heard some time ago, it may include full power colour customisation, and a chance of some form of power animation customisation as well.

Of course, I'm not going to commit to that being definite; but my information also included Going Rogue, new zones (no detail specified), and a retail expansion box, so...

  16. OK, then assuming CoH is installed to a folder you created, I suggest right clicking that folder and bringing up the security properties. Make sure that your current user has both Ownership of the folder AND Full Control access rights.

If you don't, add them (the help will guide you through doing that).

EDIT: Ah, I see it's fixed. Good! Glad it's now working for you!
  17. [ QUOTE ]
All fixed now! Used latest beta drivers, played with the RAM timing and changed the 3D quality settings slightly. No more crashes!
Thanks to all who contributed fix suggestions, much appreciated.

Aah! Glad you got it sorted! Any more problems, don't hesitate to ask.
  18. Actually, Vista doesn't smell... It's just trying to protect you as a lot of older programs just aren't written with its security model in mind, COH being one of them. Unfortunately, people mistake this security feature for a bug and accuse the OS of being rubbish when in fact, it's just different to how XP did things.

Firstly, you should not need to install CoH as an Administrator. Very few programs require this BUT you should NOT install it to the default directory (C:\Program Files\City of Heroes).

Like all MMO's, CoH requires write access to be able to update itself, and the \Program Files\ directory tree falls under Vista's new security model. It will not permit programs to write files in there after their initial installation and instead creates a virtual folder path which is deleted when the program terminates.

What this basically means is that you will need to install to a different folder. Personally, I have a \Games\ folder and I install all my games under there. That way there are no problems with permissions.

One thing though. Once installed, Vista is going to flag CoH as needing security permission to run every time you start it. This is a bit annoying as it means there's an extra button to click every time you start it, but it's really just the OS noticing that the file your running has the word "update" in it, and thinks "Hang on, this could be dodgy!", so quite sensibly asks you if it's OK. Maybe one day Paragon Studios will address this issue, but in all fairness to them, Vista is NOT listed as a supported OS (even though it works great under it).
  19. Getting close to swearing now... Useless forum software!

Probably down to (I suspect) only a handful of people working on i15 whilst the great majority are working on the expansion.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Eh. That's possible, but I wouldn't assume it. Generally speaking, delays in IT projects are rarely caused by a lack of manpower.

Well, I did clearly say that I suspect it's why, not that it's definitely why.

So it'll go live either late this week or sometime during next week. Either way, I15 has taken them longer than I expected.

I suspect that its taken them longer than they expected as well got the feeling they wanted it in beta just after the anniversary and out soon after.
