  1. ...that Warshades were this much fun?

So, personal account. I'm putzing about the forums one day between classes, wondering if it'd be better to make a Brute or Scrapper in praetoria,* when I notice a link in someone's sig; 'The MFing Warshade'. Intrigued, I head over to the guide and find it difficult to stop myself from laughing.

'Someone's talking out his bum', I think to myself, 'All the (few) Warshades I've seen in game have been poor excuses for characters. This is clearly just a romanticized recount of a poor AT'

As the day goes on, I can't stop thinking about it, though. Finally, when I get back to the dorm, I decide to put one together. All of my friends laugh at me, and tell me I oughta just make a VEAT instead of a gimpy HEAT, but I've always sort of liked the Nictus, so I spend the requisite three hours on costume and log on.

    !!!!!!!

This is the most fun I've ever had on any character. For the first few levels, I thought my concerns were justified, but then I started picking up forms and mezzes, and suddenly I feel like a powerhouse. Lasers everywhere, never needing to rest or stop, triple-damage nukes which take two seconds to recover from? My Storm/Rad defender WISHES he could have this much fun, and I understand it only gets better with Eclipse.

Is this the most fun AT in the game? Because I'm seriously having trouble even thinking about other characters at this point.

(Thank you for taking the time to read this!)

*Should have gone Scrapper. I love the character concept, but the Fury bar... I cannot stand it.

Well there wasn't any, assuming that the spawn was three minions or a lieut and three minions. That was fine. It got pretty aggrivating whenever a spawn deviated from that model, though, especially at higher levels where various critters could open up with some kind of mez themselves.

It might have been somewhat better with /energy, I suppose. Knockback would probably have been better than /ice's slow. As long as it kept powerboost for Wormhole later on!

I wouldn't want to dissuade anyone from playing Grav/, but the levelling is pretty harsh. Life as a Grav/ dominator is a misery until you get Singularity. My friends tell other teammates that I'm his pet.

Power Boost + Wormhole is pretty hilarious, mind you!

Anyway, yes, Singularity is very, very useful for tanking psychic or toxic characters. Sure, slot him to 70% resists and he's a good tank for nearly anything, but he really shines when you drop him in the middle of the Fonts of Power in Mako's missions and watch them chip away worthlessly at his health.

    I love my pet

    This post is about pets!

First, a bit of background. My first character, sole 50 and true joy in City of X is a Gravity/Ice dominator, created before the dominator damage buff went through. I joined along with a few friends, and they began to swiftly outpace me around level 12, becoming more and more 'super' while I struggled with anything above the difficulty floor. Elite bosses below my level proved impossible to face alone, and a group of four minions would drive me to hit-and-run tactics. My friends were not sympathetic, convinced that I simply did not understand the concept of active defenses. How I envied their toggles and AoE knockup.

As level 30 approached, I thought very seriously about simply quitting. I am naturally disinclined toward repeating content in games (I absolutely hate re-plays until about a year has passed), so it wasn't until Going Rogue that I considered making a villian alt. People told me that Singularity was a good power, though, so I figured I'd hang on for two more levels.

"I doubt it'll really make a difference", I thought, "But I like black holes, so I'd like to see it. I'll quit after that."

Then I got Singularity, and it made absolutely everything better.

It held, it drew aggro, it immunized me from the melee attacks of charging beasties. It tanked bosses and elite bosses, and summoning it was like dropping a hilarious physics bomb in the middle of spawns, sending ragdolls flying. Although Dominators cannot name their pets in-game, I called it Slurpy (get it? Black holes suck things in!), and it became my favorite thing in the game.

I love my Singularity. I love the way debris orbit it in dynamic fashions, distorting as I run through it. I love the way huge mobs will run towards it, then bounce away again and again. I love how it can hold entire spawns, doing my job for me, and stack holds with me until hold-resistant Elite Bosses are floating helplessly in midair. I love how it flies across maps after me, undaunted by heights, and I love how it knocks unwary Arachnos off The Web in Grandville as it passes, aggroing huge mobs and sending them flying to the ground below.

Singularity is always there to help me. It's never held, it's never knocked away, it's never stunned. If I Power Boost a Wormhole and plop a group next to it, my Singularity will mez all of them before they recover from the disorient. Singularity blocks doors and tanks psychic Heroes, blissfully ignorant of the massive damage it isn't taking. Even if it is eventually overwhelmed, it reappears at my call, completely refreshed. It never grabs unwanted aggro, and never has trouble with doors (except portals, which it doesn't seem to understand- well, it is a gravitational phenominon, after all). Without Singularity, I could never have fought Lord Recluse (the Elite Boss, not the AV). He did not complain as he distracted Recluse's endless army of Bane Spider Executioners, allowing me to land the deathblow.

I love you, Singularity. Without you, I could never, never play this character.

Does anyone else have a pet they adore?
