  1. I don't have lowbies. I won't until Rogue comes out.

But I might start bringing a new character to get the accolade on. I need to review my characters and decide which one deserves the stat boost the most.

    But I'll be there.
  2. I've never understood the in game explanation for being given patron powers in the first place. If you're a tech character, why are you suddenly given mystical electric Mu powers?

The thought process I use in RP, is that there is a certain understanding in the world around us that heroes and villains are only allowed to function within certain Archetype/Powersets (heroes so that no one is too powerful, villains by decree of Recluse, monitored by Arachnos, for the same reason). When characters reach a certain point, they're allowed the ability to expand their powers a little further by any available means, within certain restrictions. A tech Mastermind doesn't suddenly get Mu electric powers, he is given permission to use technology to emulate Mu electric powers (in this case, using technology).

If it can be accepted that characters function within preset limitations for a reason, then you explain away not only why you can't have overpowered things like a pet/armor archetype, but also why any character can change any power to any color. Villains aren't literally being granted origin crossing powers from their patrons, they're just copying them with what's available to each individual villain.
  3. I agree that we're probably not going to get new people to come to our server just because we have a mentor program, if nothing else then for the simple fact that by the time people find out about it, they're already comfortable wherever they are.
  4. Need? Of course we don't need it. We also don't need server events or global channels.

    Would it help? Possibly.

Would it hurt? No (or at least, every unlikely).

Though I actually completely disagree with Frozen. Whenever I see a new person on a team asking questions, almost everyone bails. All most players want is to get their xps and their paper. They don't have the patience to "deal with" newbies. I'll see a team of eight dwindle down to me, the guy asking questions, and possibly one other person in half an hour's time (while we're still running missions).
  5. This morning's publish introduced a map instability issue and we are looking to fix this today by reverting to the previous build which we know to be stable.

Start Time: 3:45 PM Pacific Time (6:45 PM Eastern Time / 11:45 PM GMT / 00:45 Central European Time)
    Expected Duration: 2 hours
Expected Finish Time: 5:45 PM Pacific Time (8:45 PM Eastern Time / 1:45 AM GMT / 02:45 Central European Time).

*Please note that if a character logged in and claimed the "Walk" power, the Walk power icon will appear grayed out and unusable.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding!

So, do we push it back till 9?
  6. I hated this game for the first several months I played it. I sucked. That my main's build (which has remained mostly unchanged since I created him) is decent (post level 28) was a complete accident. The only reason I kept playing was because my brother played, same reason I played WoW.

If he had quit before I got good (and if i recall correctly, the timetables were damn close), I wouldn't be here. I got "lucky".

Not everyone can get enjoyment out of being thrust into a new environment. And if people like that don't get good fast enough, they give up.

I assume that's the people we're going after. People that want to learn beyond reading a guide, but don't know where to go, or who to ask.

Though, perhaps we should see how much attention a project like this would actually get from new players before completely organizing and launching it. As Frozen implied, people might just generally not care.
  7. Hell, I've been doing that with combat jumping since the first month I started playing.
  8. I'm not sure proselyte is one hundred percent appropriate, but I like that. I'ma start using that.

There will most likely come a time when one proselyte finds that another proselyte is getting more "stuff" (stuff in this sense being items, money, concepts, what-have-you) from their mentor and will probably become jealous. What do we do when that happens, or what can we do to prevent that from happening?

Or do we do anything at all?
  9. I'm not arguing anymore, and I'm the only one that had a dissenting view. You guys made your decision, there's no reason to try and justify it. Specially trying to justify it to someone who learned concepts that expanded to other portions of the game from farm teams.

You all agree; go on to another subject. I'm sure there are plenty left.
  10. Would telling someone how to run a mission or a TF/SF be sufficient enough? How about telling someone how an AT works instead of showing them?

If you're willing to set the precedent that "no, you can't do this at all", then best of luck to you.
  11. Yes, because no one can learn anything from a farm, right?

For those of you who haven't done farms as much as I have, farm teams are a different set of rules for this game. You cannot successfully (the level of which is determined by xp(or influence or tickets)/time) run through a farm mission the same way you run through a normal mission. If you're stance is "no, never, not even a few times so they can learn how they work", then you're saying no to a portion of this game that, whether you like it or not, exists.

If the point of this project is to help players understand more intricately "how to play", then it needs to be a "how to play" every aspect of this game.

Obviously, nothing but farming would, generally speaking, leave an individual with a very abstract view of this game. Same with only missions, same with only TF/SF/Trials. But to deny any area completely, should be up to the mentor in question.

If this is going to work, we need to keep it loose. Let teachers make up their own lesson plan.
  12. I disagree, for the simple matter that it exists.

These aren't children we're talking about (at least, not necessarily). If a side of the coin exists, they need to see it.

"This is a regular team. This is what is expected of you; this is what you can expect from others."

"This is a Task Force/Strike Force. This is what is expected of you; this is what you can expect from others."

"This is a farm. This is what is expected of you; this is what you can expect from others."

As far as a new person to the game, it's just a side of the coin. It's not (or shouldn't be) our job to tell them "no, this is bad, you shouldn't do this." It's up to them to make that distinction for or against on their own.

I say we shouldn't play in just one way. We need to do duo teams, larger organized teams (of other mentor/new players), PUGs, Task Force/Strike Force, Trials, long arcs, short arcs, Ouroboros, AE, Holiday events. They need to be exposed to normal characters, IO'd characters, SK'd characters, Extemp'd characters, every AT (particularly how to work with a tank and/or without a healer) everything we, as mentors, can possibly include as is available to us from our own resources.

But, that's just my side of the platform. That's what I intended to do.
  13. Nope, Hero Man can't fly.

    But I hate quartz.
  14. I like that it only took us one attempt to take down the Crystal Titan. Of all the times I died, I never got killed by an Archvillain/Monster.

    Just by regular enemies.

    This.

But what about people that don't want to join an SG/VG? I'd be happy to mentor, if it was nothing more than being someone to talk to, but I'm not joining a SG/VG to do it. I have a home.

Edit: And I'm sure there will be new players in the same boat, though possibly for different reasons.
  16. Okay, nevermind then. Thanks for the information, though.
  17. We beat the hell out of that Eden Trial.

Oh, and everyone got to see me get killed like 7 times.

    I hate quartz.
  18. My brother plays Aeon while I play this.

What is this booster, though? If it does something cool, I might be willing to buy it off someone for him.

This. Even if it never comes up, the simple fact that this is an option should make new players more comfortable with participating in this (and not worrying about being drawn into some kind of psychological obligation even if there is no physical one).

Uh... Well, I'll still be on at 8. Use my global, @Demon Shell.

Edit: That is, 8 pm EST on Tuesday.
  21. I'll show up for that. I'll be on Hero Man, Blue, so you can contact me. But I can bring anyone.

That is sort of what I was running on the assumption of, which I just confirmed on a level 5.

Hide and Seek, or tag, in the regular sewers might be fun (with whoever is "it" not on the team).

The problem with regular Hide and Seek across all zones, is that whoever is "it" will need to enter hidden mode. If they forget, someone can just use the search feature. Or, one person/SG could have eyes all over several zones to help them out. In the sewers, you have a better chance of telling if someone is there that shouldn't be.
  23. Yay! I won something for once!

I'll see you Tuesday night at 8 for TfT, so you can just hand me the booty before or after the event. No reason to set up a special time for it.
  24. A race through the Abandoned Sewers to the trial mission door (or wherever you happen to be standing).
