Art is, IMO, created to be critiqued.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have to disagree with this. Art is created first, and foremost, to be enjoyed and admired by the viewer. If you don't like the piece then move on. Critiques are usually volunteered by people that has less understanding that the artists and, more often than not, a chip on their shoulder just waiting to lash out at something. And to top if off, most end up not even being useful.
I think the main purpose of this forum is not to search out critiques, or to search out pieces to critique, but rather a place to come and share your talents with others. And then offer a critique only if, and ONLY IF, the person posting has asked for one.
If you want to critique pieces then there are lots of other sites that cater to just this mindset, but I don't think that this is the place for it unless specifically asked for. And so on that note, if you really need to offer a critique and the artist has not asked for it, then do it in a Private Message.
Anyway, just my two cents worth.

nicely worded would subscribe to your newsletter -
I don't see them rushing to your defense either , sport .

im guessing it will be bruised and sore for a day or two but nothing major ...luckily I own small dogs -
Made the mistake of breaking up a fight between my two jack russels and one of them bit deeply into my important hand breaking the skin and looking very apologetic afterwards as I did the dance of pain .
but now its all bruisey so expect twice the typos and lack of puncuation as I type with my unimportant or left hand :P
Also not able to ink tonight -

I'm scratching my head to see the hate, but clearly I started this thread assuming I was one of the offenders. *shrug*
I apologize to Turbo-Ski and Scarf-girl as well as anyone else I've personally offended. If that's not sufficient, well, I guess it'll have to be insufficient.
[/ QUOTE ]
Gee thats real big of you sport , its awful nice of you to wander into the forums and start kicking peoples sand castles down as your one and only contribution to the art forums . -
sorta short hand so the artist can let you know that its not completed yet so there may still be a number of things they are working on or fixing .

While this is an emotionally charged issue in several respects, it's been a useful discussion so far. In the interests of escaping moderation, I'd suggest that we attempt to refrain from personal responses and judgemental statements like "this or that is cowardly".
[/ QUOTE ]
your oponion that this thread has been useful is not universelly shared I see it as a rather unuseful thread that we actually went over some time ago , I see your unasked for critiques to be on the verge of trolling and I guess i'll just get in the habit of regularly reporting them as such .
[ QUOTE ]
The thread was started because there's a community here and the community has a right to set its standards for acceptability. If I have a goal here, it's to speak the standards instead of leaving them unspoken until someone gets their feelings hurt. What good is it to offend people to the point that they stop participating?
[/ QUOTE ]
It seems more like a well worded attempt to stir up arguments , since it would really only take a post to ask someone if they did or did not want your critique
[ QUOTE ]
I disagree with the proposition that you're only entitled to critique things if you've paid your dues, but that's a side-bar to the question of whether critique is appropriate at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
you can critique all you want , I on the other hand have no intrest in listening to self important windbags attempting to tell me what I should and shouldn't do with my piece of paper the same way im unlikely to listen to self important windbags tell me how to play City of Heroes . -
I have a inflateable kiddie pool on my upstairs patio and sit in it while and watch my green apple smirnoff bottles merrily bob around until I get thirsty .
A 15 dollar kiddie pool is a awesome investment for a apartment dweller without a pool in a hot hot summer -
yeah but thats a real art forum , where fellow artists come together to share trade secrets and learn and teach .
This place is more about just showing off art , its sorta like the kiddie pool of art forums -
And Emporer Steele chimes in , im so glad another person that regularly posts art has chimed in to a discussion explaing to his fellow artists how best to grow as a artist ....oh wait you never actually post art .....
-
did you really just say "roll with the pros ? " and "If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen " and "Charging fees for work "
I have no intrest in rolling with the pros , or leaving the forum because im not intrested in critiques by cowardly people that can't even be bothered to post art in the first place .
And not all of us charge fees or do comissions or do comissions .
any more pithy catch phrases you wanna toss out there ? -

That's a fantastic piece. His work just never ceases to amaze me. However, I do like your pumpkin carnivore picture more. It's probably because I'm not used to seeing DB in this light.

put you team with her all the time and thats about as much clothes as she always wears ...hmmm she is missing the scarf ...
is this sorta like the donald duck thing were even though he is pantless he only acts shamed like he is naked if he removes his shirt ? -
geez I really do have a dislike of food having faces or talking ....I wonder if there is a actual psychological disorder in regards to that .

Frankly I find SlickRiptide's posts in the art forum either offensive or an utter bore to read. I tend to just naturally skip over them like how I didn't really even read his opening post here.
I don't think art should be critiqued unless the artist asks for it. I particularly find it distasteful when someone becomes overly critical over something a collector/artist might be showing off.
[/ QUOTE ]
I feel much the same way .
If I want critiques I ask for them or i'll go to <gasp> a set of forums designed specificly to get feedback from other artists .
This is mostly a place for folks to show off things weather they drew it or comissioned someone else to draw it .
I have posted things specificly to give folks a chance at playing at critiqueing and found it did help shape the piece nicely but the majority of the time im just doing my own thing and really don't care if this or that don't meet others exacting standards . -
I just assume everyone is people and treat them based on my interactions with them , unless im mad at them then I treat then as less then people

Actually im a 48 year old transgendered lemur , would you still like pics ? -
acck back on subject guys or i'll sick the mods on you and K is a biter

And for the record, I'm neither 14 nor 50 nor male. Everything else is left for your imagination.
[/ QUOTE ]
I belive your a transgendered lemur and 48 :P
seriously while I agree with your post ive never understood the need to declare personal info .
I don't often see male players post "Guy IRL !" or "Proud Gamer Guy " then again I have girl in my forum name so I guess im just as guilty (in fact more so ) of violating my own pet peeve .
Someones gender on a internet forum for a MMO is the thing im least intrested about unless somehow having hairy shoulders or cute hips can be proven to garner more exp
and im not directing this at you Khep , but my pet peeve button got hit and I had to mini rant :P
next weeks off topic rant
How "Tee Hee this game is hard can you help me , ooh my bra came undone tee hee " comments from gamers playing females (who may in fact be females )
annoy me almost as much as
"Omg your a girl ...can you send me pics "
and
"don't worry girl person I shall be your sworn protector in all things because you cannot possiably protect yourself is this tough old MMO "
<wanders off ranting at no one in particular as she is consumed by a tangent > -

But it looks like none of that matters, so I guess we'll have to stop referencing our art there, and cannot have anything submitted to the City Scoop that's on our DA page that may also show a Fave or something that might be questionable.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really think it has more to do with someone with a grudge or too much free time trying to make a issue with certain posters .
Theres adult content on almost everyones Deviant Art page from Sayterras to Scarfgirls , weather it be favorites , art commissioned or art drawn by the artist .
((and im sure we all have differing ideas what counts as adult but in the end its really the mods oponion that counts in this regard ))
and its not like these rules are really all that new , they are just enforcing them a bit more , consider it a bit of growing pains that we will just have to get used to
We really don't get moderated that often here and for the most part we police our own , even Nadyas thread which sorta painted a bullseye on itself by originally directly linking to the art in question and labeling itself as NSFW was allowed to exist .
one can imagine someone made a fuss , the mods visited that particular page and saw art with lots of censored bars and acted in a way we all likely shouldn't be that surprised about
((a hotdog with a face !!! im still having nightmares :P ))
, personally I consider it a slap on the wrist sorta like when im going 70 in a 30 MPH zone and the cop that pulls me over gives me a moving violation ticket as opposed to a full speeding ticket :P
I personally think its bussiness as usual -

So, lemme get this straight.... I post a link to an artist on DA, okay, it's their DA homepage and it meets DA rules and regulations, cool. Then I suggest that they look around, maybe visit her blog, and there is a NSFW picture of Nadya. That's not ok?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think that's what's being said.
I think the rule is: You can't post a link that goes directly to a page with NSFW content on it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nadya is describing the thread of hers that got deleted.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well I think that particular DA artist had alot of adult art with censored bars all over it if I remember correctly , but my memorey is at times faulty .
Remember these rules are guidelines , but if the Mods feel your skirting the edges its well within their right to mod the thread .
I don't think we really post enough art of that sort to worry o'er much about it and most of the regulars are watching the other regulars on Deviant art so its not uncommon that folks will know about a particular piece of art before it gets posted on the forums .
Just use your best judgement and don't stress it if your art gets modded , we could also easily make use of the City of Art page on Deviant art to show off that which cannot be shown :P
personally I can think of severel ways around this so its not that big of an issue (( to me )) and the fact that they are allowing NSFW art and leniant posting policies on the art forum in the first place is a major concession IMHO
((by NSFW im lumping in cheese cake art , skimpy outfitted heroes and heroines and invincibelle , but not lumping in adult art which is hard to define but im sure the mods know it when they see it ))
ugggh is it sad though that the art forums resident hothead
( and by that I mean me ) isn't outraged about this and siding with the mods on the new policies
maybe im mellowing out in my old age ..........
or maybe the mods have those art pictures I took in collage .....
seriously I really needed the money ...and it was artistic ...honest ! -
if there is a hot dog with a face on it in this video i'll likely be scarred for life :P
