That's a new one by me... hmmmm... I wonder if you can use the Puddle NPC to do emotes and then you'd see a donut appearing in midair... then just make it move...

I use Sound Forge, personally - mainly because I quite enjoy the Sony suite (Movie Studio, Sound Forge, and Acid Pro). You learn one, you can use them all.

Oh, my bad.
I've decided this video of mine won't have voiceover work (unless I get some radical concept that changes my mind). This one is just music.
And I got no work done last nightI was too sore after working out for the first time in forever. Now today my limbs feel like they weigh a ton, so when I get home, I will relax my sitting in front of my computer and doing nothing more strenuous than typing and moving around my mouse. Which means more video stuff.
BTW - don't assume you're automatically going to lose. You never know when the newcomers will blow the veterans out of the water with something uber-nifty.

Since at present, so far as I know, the only way to access raw sounds is to PIGG dive (a major no-no), my recommended tactic is if you're going to get attack sounds for individual attacks, ask someone to go into the Arena with you, try to get one that's appropriate for the sound you want (office map, city map, warehouse, ship, whatever), and stand there and attack each other - one attack at a time.
Word of advice, if you let the demo repeat itself, usually the second time around (and all subsequent repeats), the music doesn't actually repeat, so it's just the ambient sound (wind, cars, whatever) and the attack effects.

Nah, not that I was able to find (since they say that "text" is allowed), it's just me being paranoid.

Hooray, I finally was able to get myself into gear! Video footage is now about 20% demorecorded, 10% video-converted. This should look way funky - I guess finally creating the right lead character helped!
I just really, really, REALLY hope I don't get disqualified on a technicality... like using titles. (As in, putting a title in the video at the beginning and captions through it.)

Woohoo, I got a mention in the Multi-Media Showroom! Yay! *happy dance*
And my links are safe, btw.

Nuh-uh, I am not CUTE! My avatar is cute, I am not.
As for WHO I am, I am generally "that chick who makes videos." I have no real identity it seems.

It's a rough gig and no mistake, because either:
1) the devs rush stuff to accommodate the players' need for new issues, so bugs abound - players complain.
2) the devs take their time to make sure the issue is as right as it can be before releasing it, which means it takes longer - players complain.
3) the devs tell folks what's going to be coming up in the next issue, and for whatever reason for the hold-up, it doesn't make it into the issue - players complain.
4) the devs don't tell the players what's in the issue until they're reasonably certain it can actually be done and released on time, which takes longer - players complain.
5) the devs make the call on whether to fix older things (the Cathedral of Pain) or give the players the new stuff (customizable power effects), since it's generally one or the other - players complain.
(Note that I just say "players" and not "THE players" - I know not all of us kick and scream because we don't get what we want.)
I ran into similar problems at my previous job - there were times where I felt awful for the development teams there because of how much flak they always got, no matter how many sixteen-hour days they'd work trying to get stuff done right and on time.

Relentless is right. My usual trick for doing that is to get a bunch of my friends on, run around, get the footage I need, then map in whatever I need OVER them. Voila!

I'm not that lucky - I'd do better going to Vegas and turning a slow but steady profit. Problem is, having the funds to go there in the first place.

To paraphrase Ben Aaronovitch (one of my favorite DOCTOR WHO authors)...
"Talent borrows, genius steals, CoX videographers get it off the back of a lorry, no questions asked."

PS - I did a tally at work the other day of how many CoX videos I've got ideas for/started working on/etc... SIXTEEN!!! That doesn't include the anime vids and whatnot I want to do as well. AGGGHHH!!! -
Personally I am holding out for the player created content too. That has the potential to be quite nifty, provided there's enough control on it to keep certain people from screwing things up *coughmissionfullofMasterIllusionistscough*. The CoX community has a LOT of imagination, so I expect to see some seriously nifty PCC out of this.
Heck, I've already got a couple of heroside story arcs and a full-blown Task Force storyboarded out; hubby's got the same for villainside.
I do have one question though, BAB, as long as you're in such a chatty mood... will you allow cutscenes in the PCC?

Unfortunately, not as such - although an offline character adjuster would be sweet.
One way to create comics using screenshots a bit more under your control is through the use of demofiles. There are some excellent guides on how to create your own demos (this is how you see some of us doing videos where we have folks doing stuff you normally can't do in the game itself). If memory serves, this is how CoX comic god ChaseArcanum does his.
Hope this helps,

Maybe as a temporary solution ask one of the following, politely of course, to please comment in the thread to get it into the Dev Digest so it can be seen.
Castle
BaB
pohsyb
Jay
WW
Ghost Falcon
Hero 1
Positron
Manticore (assuming his account is still active and flagged for the Dev Digest)
any other Dev I've missed that would show up in the Dev Digest
Not the best solution, but one that would bring this thread to the attention of the majority of the forum readers.
Many have narrowed their reading areas and only follow their server forums, Community Digest, and Dev Digest. Some have expanded it a bit more than that, but I've spoken to several that only read these 3 areas regularly.

My music choice is currently 3:45, but I might edit it down so that my video has a slightly faster pace to it. And I've got all my storyboarding done! I just need to really focus on shooting the footage I need (or in my case, coding certain scenes).
Michelle
aka
Samuraiko/Dark_Respite -
My personal theory on why a lot of folks are hitting a rough spot is the enforced selection of music. If I were allowed to choose my own, I think that for the idea I have, I could think of a half-dozen other pieces that would work BETTER than what I've chosen from the game, remixed or not. Grrrr.
Had this wonky nightmare last night though that my video was disqualified after I'd worked my tail off getting it done. We'll see if that was prophetically true or not.

I almost feel guilty - the deadline is August 10th for entries and I've barely even begun working on mine. I got the music done, I have my concept, but not quite had the concentration I did before.
I wonder if it's something about the diet - my energy's been kinda off since I started.
But I must persevere and see this through to the end! (both the diet and the video)

I use Zloth's Demo Player because it automatically removes them.

I have that kind of dream a lot. To the point where I wake myself up and are halfway into the study where the computers are before I realize I was dreaming.
Which is really depressing sometimes.

O...Ok, Where can I get the rest of them?
[/ QUOTE ]
You can't - not without accessing the files of the game itself, which is a big, big, BIG no-no. If you REALLY want the music for part of the game that you can't get off the site, turn on an audio recording program, load up the game, and get into the zone and just record what you hear. Sucks, but that's the way it is.
Michelle
aka
Samuraiko/Dark_Respite -
To clarify that, not ALL of the music from the game is there - a good chunk of it, but not all of it.

*laughing*
Thanks, Star, I needed that.
The funny thing is, I do some of my best work under pressure of time constraints (like "OMG I HAVE TO GET THIS DONE!"). The I-12 trailer I'd been dabbling with for a couple of weeks, but when I just KNEW that it was coming out the next day, I worked on it for eleven hours straight and got it done.
Same with the Incarnate trailer.
But my record (for a long video) was finishing "Time to Start" from BEGINNING to END... in four days. Conception, editing, titles, filming, all that stuff. Four days. After that, I just wanted a nap.
Now I'll probably end up doing the same thing for the machinima contest (and I am NOT looking at ANYONE else's entry beforehand for fearing of scaring myself out of the contest).
Michelle

And then use Zloth's Demo Player.

If you're downloading off YouTube (for whatever reason), see if you can find a downloader (like vixy.net) that will let you download in AVI format, at least. Then the only codec you should need is DivX.
But I agree - downloading off YouTube leads to some awful quality.
