Another tip for graphire users is binding rotate image to the two buttons at the top of the pad, bind the left one to rotate counterclockwise, and the right to rotate clockwise. Might help you paper twirlers

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Hmm...binding rotate? Please elaborate...(fellow paper twirler). :-p

    Drawing Tablets

    [ QUOTE ]
Okay, that answers a lot for me, there. I may forego the tablet for now, as, like Aerones, I move my paper around, a lot. In circles. It's hard enough for me to see my monitor as it is (I sit about two to three feet away, on the floor), and I prefer to draw at my art table. I can see how drawing can be different, I just wasn't sure how much.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, it's not different in the sense that you can't "move" your piece around...because you can, quite easily as a matter of fact. The only thing that always seem to bother me is keeping tabs on what you're looking at and where you're actually drawing on. I don't know...it always was kinda weird to me...but that problem gets solved for those with a Cintiq...but I doubt anyone (myself included) could ever dream of affording one...

Another thing that I've always had trouble with was the smoothness of the tablets. For those of you who've used tablets...it's like writing on glass...literally. WACOM says that their felt nibs were made to be less smooth but it doesn't really make THAT much difference...it's still quite smooth...and if you're used to pencil, the difference will be quite noticeable.

Although I'm pointing out negative factors, don't get me wrong. I TOTALLY support the desire to get a tablet...because it IS a very powerful TOOL. Granted, you will have to devote alot of time and effort into training yourself...but if you're up to the challenge, then I say, go for it!

    Drawing Tablets

First off, to ComicFlux, are you going to be carrying it around with you? If yes, I'd go with the smallest ones, first. Also, I'd suggest you get the cheapest Graphire3 one first just to practice and see if you're comfortable with the environment. Drawing with a tablet and drawing on paper are very, very different...it's better to shell out about $70 and realize that it's not working than to spend somewhere in the $400 range.

Also, regardless of what you get, stick with WACOM.

    So here's a question, then:

Is there a large learning curve in learning to draw on a tablet instead of the old-fashioned pencil and paper method? I've been tempted to get a tablet, but wonder if it's really something I'll use. I'm comfortable with my pencil, gum eraser, and pastels, but the idea of doing some things digitally interests me. I've been playing with Poser right now only to help me with getting poses right and anatomy correct, and clarify ideas in my mind.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There is a pretty steep learning curve (but that depends on your current style and skill level)...I've had my tablet for about...umm...3 or 4 years now. There are still alot of things I can do on paper that I've yet to be able to emulate with a tablet.
  5. Heh...I'd probably do the sketches for influence. Unfortunately, my account is almost expired. :-(

All I see is a walking burnt corpse. Seriously that costume is ugly with all the solid black everywhere.

Ninjas are all black...and, we all know that Ninjas are cool...

    So...

    If Ninja = Cool
    And Ninja = Black
    Then Black = Cool

    :-P hehe
  7. Hehe...I did the same thing with Kai...she worked on the PHP for my site...however, I could always use the services of a professional graphic designer, though...

    Check it out!

    Nope!

    I second that! :-p
  9. Hmm...do you guys know of some large database or some sort of webring or something that lists these conventions? So far, I can find anime conventions...but I'd REALLY love to goto the American comic ones too!
  10. *smiles* :-)

I don't think I was really lookin for inspiration in that thread as much as I wanted to mess around with people's characters to get something to appease my retarded sense of humor. LOL!
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Just meaning that the popularity seems to be losing to say...video games. Also, all my comix went from worth a ton, to bargain box at the local comic store?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, the "dead" period for comics was during the late 90's. In recent years, it's REALLY gained popularity quite a bit due to better storylines. Marvel, for example, is hiring alot of professional screenwriters and famous authors (Orson Scott Card, for example) to write their comics. It's getting really back on its feet. The comic store near my house actually just doubled its size.

As for value, the thing with comics nowadays is that people don't just "collect" it just for collection purposes but it's seen more as reading material. Remember those old Spiderman comics? Nobody ever read it...people just collected it because they think some day it's gonna be worth a ton (which is still true, too)...but nowadays, the way it's looked at is just different.
  12. Well, I'm currently planning to attend Anime Mid-Atlantic in June and Otakon in July. I'm not aware of any other ones...but if anyone knows of an interesting one that's still open and is on the East coast of the U.S., do lemme know! =)
  13. Dang, looks like we've got ourselves another budding artwhore. TA better watch out!
  14. Well, adding a hyphen will cause a difficulty in searching for you.

Umm...I, myself, use my real name. I know of a few others who does as well...umm...like:

Terrell Bobbett of Marvel Comics uses bobbett for his.
Mike Bear, who's doing the G.I.Joe comics uses Bear65 for his.
Brandon McKinney (from here) also uses his name, too.

Hmm...okay, maybe that's the only ones that I can name right off the top of my head. I know there are definitely others, too.

But anyways, whatever works for you, really. If you went with Dark-Jedi (with the hyphen), it may cause alot of your watchers to goto DarkJedi's page instead and be all confuzzled and [censored]? about why Shuler has some thing about hacking the planet. (referring to http://darkjedi.deviantart.com )
  15. Well, thought I'd post this...since this is actually on the Official Submission Guidelines page...

Also, any copyrighted heroes and/or trademarked names that appear in your art will automatically disqualify it! We're talking comic book heroes, T.V. characters, movie characters, etc. If it's a recognizable, copyrighted character from a property that isn't owned by Cryptic/NC Interactive, Inc., or you, it can't be submitted.

Basically, you CAN submit CoX characters because they are a property of NCSoft. You just can't submit a picture with Spiderman or Superman, which would come in conflict with another company.
  16. Well, if Rowr, Jute, Plasma Stream, Kai, Xen10k, and Hemily don't mind, I'd be happy to submit my pieces for them... =)
  17. Ok, next batch...

TA and Invincibelle...(you know what's gonna happen...)

Anyways, this is kinda fun...I'm probably gonna keep doing more of these...
  18. Hmm...pretty good! =)

The black areas create alot of contrast to the skin areas, though. You probably should've kept the lines in place to negate that...although I'm just nitpicking. It's really not that noticeable.

Is there an updated list of who is getting sketches? Or have none of us met the criteria since Turbo?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, it's just that I haven't had time yet (I had an exam this morning and I'm preparing for Katsucon, tomorrow)...I already have an idea in mind of the next one though...and it WILL be funny.

Ditto. Definitely read gender concerns on this end, as well.
