  1. Hi people. It looks like there might be a fair few new characters wandering around tonight so I think I'm going to leave Unit 29 at home unless others think we need him? There may be some new people coming as well so I will stand out by the statue just in case but I will pop into the base for a little while too. Hope to see you all there.

Some more Undead Family goons would be cool :P.

If you want more dead people, I'll drag Lord Erebus down there some time soon. He won't want to go but I'll find a reason for him.

I may or may not be there tonight but I know I definitely won't be around at the weekend unfortunately. Shame to hear about the tools, I guess having a contact and Fortunata local isn't going to help matters really.

As for reasons for going, as mentioned there could be something hidden in the area. Or maybe there's just some aura to the place that reeks of power. Or perhaps there's some prophecy that something is going to happen there that will change the course of history. Any self respecting villain would want a slice of that. Just a few suggestions.
  3. Well, first time RPing in CoV and it was grand. I hope this takes off big time.
  4. Count me in. Hopefully I will be able to make it at 10 tonight. Will there be a chat channel too or am I getting ahead of myself?

Hope to see you all there.
  5. Nice work people, I will have to go and have a look later. As with GG, I'd only be an occasional visitor but it would be grand to know there was a place where RPers could gather together regularly.

As for motivation, I agree that it should be down to the player to decide motives. Some of my villains would come just to wind down but some would come out of sheer lonliness (it ain't easy taking over the world on your own you know).
  6. Sad to see you go dude but hope to see you back some time. We'll still be going, I'm sure.

Hi all, i was jsut wondering if i could still team up with "the militia" and become part of it. If most of you are one level i could try and become that level for Thursday.I really want to try R/P and it looks very fun .

((Love to have you join us. Most of us are between 14 - 17 at the moment. Hope to see you soon. ))
  8. I'm not aware of any place in the city called that, it was pulled out of thin air. If you read the IC thread, you'll see that it's left deliberately ambiguous so that certain people could be there or not. I leave it entirely up to yourselves whether people's characters attended or not. Thanks for the clarification DB.

    The Militia

Saffron stared into the darkness, fully aware that it was staring back at her. The footlights to the Ship’s tiny stage were bright enough to obscure any detail of the audience as they sat in expectation. The previous artists had not been inspiring, a lacklustre magician and a comedian whose bawdy humour proved inappropriate for a family bar like the Ship. Although Saffron had performed live before, she’d always had the backing of an orchestra or the choir. As she sat on the solitary stool with her guitar perched on her knee, she could not have felt more alone.

The horde of rampaging zombies that she had faced the other day had been less scary but at least then she had her father’s armoured jacket and more importantly, a mask to hide behind. Up here, exposed on the stage, she knew that a floral gypsy dress and her hair was not the same. She tried to clear her mind, thoughts of her conversation with Sabrina plaguing her mind. She tried to dismiss them but still ended up feeling guilty, convinced that she had not been sympathetic enough.

But somewhere in the gloom, she could see someone waving. Taking a second to look, she saw familiar faces smiling back at her. They’d come, she thought and felt the tension break. And further back, in a far corner, she saw another familiar shape hiding in the shadows. It seemed that even her cousin had turned up to see her play.

“Hi, don’t make me nervous ok?” she said to the audience, smiling.

    And so she began…
  10. Couldn't agree more. This is fun so we should play whatever archetype appeals to us. I was just offering a few alternatives should we need them.

And as for healers, yes, "We need a healer" is one of my most hated terms too...
  11. Well, confession time, I'm a chronic altaholic and so I have a collection of toons from levels 6 - 17 (Hey, I get bored ok?), hardly any of which are in supergroups. I've rolled just about every AT out there so if we do need a particular skill, I'm happy to add any of them to the party.

IC, they all sort of know each other anyway. Amber's cousin, the "expert" on Vahzilok, Unit 29, they all know each other in some way. So if we do want to introduce any of them, I'm quite happy to bring them in.

I guess we'll just see what works out. I think we're fairly even as it is, the only thing missing may be....

(can't believe I'm about to say this....)

is possibly a healer. Don't hit me!

    Militia Personel Report:
    ------------------------

    Unit 29

    Age: 2
    Occupation: Construction

Confined to a wheelchair by a degenerative spine disease, Dr Alexander has spent most of his life working with robotics and artificial intelligence. One of his best inventions was the Heavy Automated Intelligent Construction Unit (HAICU), a robot designed for work in dangerous industrial environments. In all his units, the doctor had implanted a neural net capable of learning and growing as it evolved. When number 29 began to ask about the meaning of life, Dr Alexander knew that he had accidentally created true Artificial Intelligence, capable of understanding abstract concepts.

Unit 29 learnt swiftly and was keen to explore the city however, Dr Alexander was reluctant to let him go outside and insisted on running more tests. On night though, Unit 29 managed to escape the compound and go exploring. It was unfortunate that his first encounter was with Hellions who were keen to trade him in for scrap but it did awaken a desire in him to do something about the criminal elements in the city. Realising that 29 could provide the doctor with freedom from his wheelchair, he refitted him as a combat unit and sent him out into the city, keeping radio contact with him at all times.

29 is very nosy, always wanting to know more about humans but is often quiet, listening in on people. His expressions can still be very artificial due to lack of contact however, he is slowly learning. Strangely enough, he has no desire to become human, merely to be accepted by them. He is capable of feeling emotion but not as much as a human and he would insist that they do not affect his combat performance. However, he is willing to try most things just to gain more information. He has established so far that he likes ambient music, open spaces and fluffy animals. He owns a rabbit called Rabbit.

Always a good read this thread! Good writing people.

    ((Thanks, much appreciated!))

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Dr Hugh Alexander was bent over yet another piece of machinery when he heard the tell tale thumps of one of his HAICU units approaching. He didn’t need to ask which one.

“Hello 29,” he said, not bothering to look up from what he was doing. “What is it this time?”

Unit 29 came to a halt behind him.

“You should not be bent like that sir. It is not good for your condition. I have read a lot about it.”

Dr Alexander rested back into his motorised chair again and looked up at the behemoth that was Unit 29. As much as he was delighted with the cognitive leaps 29’s neural net was making, each one seemed to make him more annoying.

“I’m quite capable of looking after myself 29. I above anyone would know the effects of bending on my ailment.”

29 considered this. He knew the doctor was incorrect but he had learnt that correcting him wasn’t always conducive to a pleasant atmosphere. He decided to press on.

“I have prepared your dinner sir, hamburgers as requested. However, I have read that red meats are detrimental to your health so I have taken the liberty of removing them for you.” Unit 29 handed the doctor the plate, quite proud of himself.

“So… basically my dinner is salad in a bun?” stated the doctor. He didn’t wait for a response. “You’re getting as bad as my mother.”

“Sir, your mother is 300 miles away,” said 29.

“Yes, it’s the thing I love about her most,” said Dr Alexander, biting into the terribly unappetising meal. There was a thump on the workshop roof followed by the sound of boots running across corrugated metal.

“Ah, it sounds like the delightful Miss Amber is about to join us,” muttered the doctor. Unit 29 turned his attention to the hangar door which swung open to reveal Saffron, fresh from her night out on patrol.

“Hi folks,” she called over, “How are you feeling doc?”

“Hungry,” he muttered. “Was it a good patrol? And are your team getting good use out of the earplugs I designed?”

“Oh it was,” said Saffron, “and yes, no-one’s complaining of headaches so far.”

    “That’s good to hear.”

“But we are getting knocked about a bit,” she went on, “we don’t seem to have enough ‘offensive firepower’ according to our leader. We keep on getting creamed…”

She would have continued but Unit 29 had lumbered across, his shadow looming over her. “I would be willing to assist you Miss Mackenzie,” he stated with pride.

“You would?” she said, “Well… that would be great I guess. But don’t you have to stay here and look after…?”

“No, I’m quite alright!” interrupted Dr Alexander, “please take him, go. It’ll give me a rest.”

“Well, only if you’re sure…” said Saffron.

“Totally sure,” said the doc, bustling them both towards the door. “Please, take him, I’ll be fine. He can look after himself now. Good hunting! Bye!”

The door closed behind them, leaving Saffron standing in the night air with the eight foot tall figure of Unit 29.

“Well, I guess it’s me and you then partner,” she said. “Want me to show you where the team are?”

“Affirmative,” stated 29, warming his jump drives.

Saffron shook her head a little, “FC’s gonna love you,” she muttered. As they turned to leave, she sniffed the air. It smelt like frying hamburgers.
  14. I may be around on Wednesday next week for a few hours but RL will be keeping me away for a little. It would be a shame to lose Dragonfly, I'm getting to like her gung ho attitude but by all means, the more interesting characters the better. Unit 29 can remain on standby for when we need him although he can be quite hillarious to play.

As for people dropping behind, I wouldn't worry about it too much. We don't seem to have an overarching plot at the moment so absence doesn't mean having to drop out, that's what sidekicking is for. Besides, the team's got a great buzz, so it's a shame when someone feels they have to go. But then again, change is the great constant.

    That and taxes.
  15. Cracking night once again (although now I've got to think of a plot for 29 ), loads of fun as usual and I agree, there's a nice dynamic in the team forming. We've had a few people interested in the Militia so maybe we can hint them towards rolling a tank if they want to join? Answers on a postcard as usual...
  16. Yeah, Happy Birthday dude. Hope you have a good one.
  17. Can't really put my finger on the problem to be honest, I do play at reasonable hours (well, most of the time...)

*smells armpits* Not sure what it could be, bad luck perhaps. When trying to get a team together myself I've found a lot of people soloing. But I'll keep trying.
  18. I reckon meet from 7 but be out on the streets by 7:30. Gives people a nice window to get in on IMHO.
  19. I've had CoV for just over three months now and have achieved a grand total of two teaming sessions. I'm still surprised at how hard it is to get teams together.

    Guidelines?

Don't be daft, that's quite alright. Sometimes we write in character, sometimes a brief story. Whatever tells the story. If you want to join us tomorrow night, I look forward to seeing you there. We tend to do the organising bit under this thread:

((Zodian asked about roleplaying groups on another thread so I told him about the Militia. Looks like he might be coming along tomorrow night. ))

    Guidelines?

Argh, my aching sides. I want to call Jack Nicholson and pay him to speak those words right now! Plus, love the sig Leif, love to go there but it's a bit of a tourist no no...

Anyway, Zodian, you were asking about the Militia. Put simply, we are a supergroup put together my some mysterious organisation for no given reason. We meet every Thursday around 19:30 and play missions in character until around 21:30. (Well, some play all night to be honest...) We all started at level 1 but we've managed to get up to around level 16 now but we can accommodate pretty much anyone who wants to join. It's not about levels, it's about fun. If you want to join the craziness, please feel free. Have a read of The Milita thread for an idea (everything on there is IC (in-character).

I know there are other roleplay supergroups around but I'm not personally aware of them. But do drop by GG as well for some socialising, I occassionally drop in when I can.

    Looking for RP

I have to of course mention the SG I belong to "The Militia" who are a more mission oriented SG for roleplayers if that's your bag. We meet every Thursday at 19:30 (on Union) in Atlas Park under the statue of the lady reaching for the stars. Take a look at the Militia thread that is in character to give you an idea of what's going on.

Good to see another RPer joining CoX. Welcome.

    The Militia

Saffron’s window slid open silently. Even though she was two stories up, the height no longer bothered her. It also made it less likely that she would be discovered by her mother who had taken to sitting up late ever since her dad disappeared. It had been a great night, out beating the Council up followed by meeting up with Tara in Pocket D. Strange that that was the only place she seemed to want to meet these days…

As she dropped her bag to the floor, she noticed an envelope sitting on her bed. Taking a quick look around the house to make sure that there was no-one still up, she returned to her room and ripped the letter open. The information contained within it was exceptionally brief.

“Your father’s last contract was with a waste management company. You are in danger. Someone in the team is not who they say they are. Do not dismiss any further mutations, they were expected.”

Saffron sat down on the bed and re-read the message. There didn’t seem to be any other clues as to where it had come from. It didn’t look like a letter from the Ministry but she wasn’t sure. Whoever her mystery messenger was, they were at least offering a clue to her dad’s whereabouts. But her mutation was expected? Someone in the team was lying to her? It didn’t make sense. She checked the envelope again. There was no postmark. Someone had put this here for her to find. Someone who had been in this room…

She feverishly checked the rest of the house again, but her fears were unfounded. The house was empty save herself and her sleeping mother. It was then that she remembered something someone had said about a waste management company a few blocks away. It sounded too easy or was it just co-incidence? There was only one way to be sure.
  25. Amber would want MTV, the History Channel and some Movie channels too. If the boys want to watch something more risque, she'd probably go bright red and find a way to sneak out of the room.
