Another one for Nightmarer, DM/DA this time.
-
Well after realising that Blizz needs this TF, and I will want to test my BS/SR against some real foes we're going for
Saturday 5th April 14:00 GMT
1) Prise De Fer BS/SR
2) Alouqua Ill/Rad
3) Agent Magnum Earth/Rad
4) Master Gomo Kat/Inv
5) MaXimillion Emp/Dar
6) Earth Inv/SS
7) Fusion Fury Fire/Fire blaster
8) Chels (some controller type thing)

Most elite bosses you can solo without your self heals, some you cant. There will always be exceptions that some sets will find tougher.
Oh course if you cant then maybe its a play style thing, but most it is more than possible to do. Obviously its only because I am DM/Regen which is apparently easy mode I guess -
I guess to get really back OT Willpower compares better to Inv than Regen because of the aura. Where as Regen is very ST focused willpower is about keeping groups around you. Regen and SR are often compared (see above, so many items of proof) but WP is more like Invul than Regen. It does miss having dull pain, but if it had dull pain it would be over powered.
I've not looked into SIO slotting my regen because I dont play it enough. my SR's tend to use Touch Of death and Multi Strikes though for the defence increases, as these both require 6 slotting I get the full sets and healthy endurance discounts. My BS/SR wont be having an ST ranged attack so also requires a maco's bite to make up the ranged defence element (have a thunderstrike in my dark blast)
Strangely enough my Invul is built towards regen and recovery in his attacks so is different again. I think my Fire/DA should it ever exist would be mostly aiming for recharge though and and thus using something close to your set up -
In slotting sets to achieve the other bonuses I have always found I get an end reduction and a recharge reduction in attacks.
I want to try Fire/DA if they bring fire out in i12 and currently I play my Spine/Invul more than any of my other scrappers. If task forces come up though I tend to sign on with the old DM/Sr and air him out a bit (though the Claw/WP will be also after attention now, to bring semi back on topic with WP vs Regen) -
Set bonuses and slotting removes the need for Quick Recovery as much as it does for quickness though.
I've never had a problem with Alphas on a regen, as you can make sure there isn't one easily enough (you dont have to jump into the middle of a group and if the attacks comes a couple of seconds apart you live)
I don't think there is a massive power balance between any of the sets but some will prefer a different style to others. I find regen dull, I find regen easy. That doesn't mean everyone will. I find I can get good damage out of SR, probably my mind set on slotting. Doesn't mean everyone will.
Oh and if I have to take an alpha I like it in my invul most, ignore a load of the damage then hit dull pain. My DA brute would be second I love going from red to green on him. I guess the feel would be the same on a scrapper
Edit: ah now I see your edit, ET is part of what I mean for not needing an alpha. My Claw/WP/Body uses that to stagger the damage. In my eyes that's more avoiding an aplha than taking one but I see what you're saying -
Well done there that man. Grats

Soloing on a regen is stupidly easy, on invince my regen doesn't use any of the clickies the passive regen from integration is plenty.
Teaming on my regen, now then I have to start clicking powers, but hey isn't that when my attacks are most needed? I dont enjoy playing regen because I can always survive on a regen but I cant always be sure I can save anyone else.
Having experience on all scrapper secondaries (all be it DA as a brute not a scrapper) I can honestly say that regen is the set that I have to think the least when playing. I don't need to worry about timing because there is always a click when I need it. Maybe the fact I have siphon life from DM as well helps that but I find regen to be too simple to play.
With my invul I always keep a note of how many are around me, where my position is, when DP will run out (because unlike Regen I use this all the time not just when in need) and I try to make sure I can ripper at the start of it running out to keep 5 foes on their back for some of my downtime.
With my SR its timing aidself and taking out foes that might apply a debuff on me first so that I can use it when I need it. I don't use Aidself unless I can use all the hit point gain because I want to be doing damage, I'm a scrapper, damage is my primary.
My willpower is almost as easy to play as my regen, but its more good/dead moments. If I start dying then I know I'm gone. This happened twice between hitting 47 and 50 so I wouldn't say it was all that common.
My DA is my click on the edge set and the biggest thrill. Not only do I have to make best use of Dark Regen by the number of foes around me I need to make sure I have the end to use it.
With all my other scrappers I get a buzz when my health goes from red to green, with regen its just all part of the play and when it was red I know I was never in any danger. I find no thrill in that but I do feel that I am lacking damage. If you want to be able to stand through everything then I'd take regen, but if you want to have a nail biting fight I'd pick any other set over it
(My views on regen haven't changed since I3 even though I didn't bother hitting 50 on mine till I10. There have been constant changes to the set but its never felt thrilling or challenging to me. My veiws on SR have changed constantly going through the defence changes, defence scaling and IO slotting. I am bias towards DM/SR because it was my first 50, if I step back my Claw/WP is the most fun scrapper I've played) -
Cheers all, and yeah a duo with MaX's scrapper but did team for the last level and until 22
Oh and Night have a Spine/WP just not played it yet. Last Will -
You guys should do fine, there's some fairly serious teams out there just keep your stress levels down
-
I prefer willpower because I find it more fun to play. It has a bit of resistance, a bit of defence, some Psi defence and resistance too (nice to have that) and it also has a higher regen rate than regen does (unless Instant Healing is being used)
It doesn't have so many click heals though and when you're going to die with WP unless you have inspirations to help you that's it.
Regen I find quite dull to play, too many methods to stay alive and too much taken away from your primary. My DM/SR vastly out damages my DM/Regen not just cause of quickness but because I don't have to constantly be clicking powers to survive. On the other hand I don't think regens should die in the normal course of play.
So which is better would come down to the player, but since hitting 50 with my Regen I've not played it and probably wont again. My SR & my Invul both get freequent play and my Willpower probably will as well (only hit 50 with it yesterday so cant be sure, but its one of the most fun scrappers I've played) -
Fire melee is very nice later on. Fire Sword Circle is one of the nicest AoEs for a brute, GFS and Incinerate give you good ST damage too and Cremate makes it into a nice chain. I like my FM brute it plays well

Grats on your 4th 50 MaX (to answer Capt's question)
-
You the only one? If we're missing a few I dont really want to
-
1280/1024 on PC and 1440/900 on laptop I think (whatever the widescreen is for 1440 anyway)
Got my eye on the Glassfronted LCDs though, waiting for their response time to get better -
If I tell MaX he's been helping people again he'll be deeply hurt.
Welcome to the forums, ignore the regulars, we're stuck here because no where else will have us.
Oh and I wouldn't take flares myself cause I could normally find something better in my secondary at that level to fill the chain. But am not a big fan or knowledge base on the current version of defiance so it may be handy, but am sure that other ST attacks will serve you better -
Bah, like I've ever played after not being out till early saturday morning. Infact last week was the only one I've been home before 2am and no one turned up

PvP in BB mmmm didnt know you could do that, i thought it was for getting shivens
[/ QUOTE ]
You can steal other peoples shards, its the lazy way of getting shivans. -
Ah, now the people I know who can play the guitar normally are actually worse than me on guitar hero, and I think its safe to say I'm less than poor. But it is a laugh and is a great game to play when you stagger home drunk at 3am
-
I wont be bothering with a new Gen console for the forseable future (well until a Guitar Hero game comes out that's not on the PS2 at least then I might have to)
See yers all saturday then -
We SG teaming this week? Or am I writing the day off and sleeping through till Sunday?

For my Fire/TA I took Ice so that I could use Ice Storm and finish of the spamming of DoT attacks. I quite like the ice epic for that and hibernate.
My next troller is taking Earth though cause I want to be in melee more (my Fire/TA uses hover so I get judge better where to place the debuffs. Ice works well with this).
