Quote:That's almost like saying Masterminds are the only ones allowed to lead a SG or VG. As long as you can find people to follow you, you can be a leader. And in case of Arachnos that's actually easy to portray with just a few other Arachnos characters acting as your subordinates. In fact you could even consider the reinforcement skills to portray just that. In addition it's a hugh organization with alot of subdivisions, so even commanding one group isn't really something special. On top of that... you're rather powerful as an Arachnos Soldier/Widow (as the arcs show), so being just another lowlive in an organization that's all about "if you have the power to take it, you have a right to take it"...The commander issue is Sue-ish because its not something that is in game as a playable option/class.
Essentially its being 'that guy' in a PnP RP session, the one that just has to be his favorite monster race, despite it not being a choice available to the players.
What I do not agree with is people playing Arbiters (and Fateweavers) though, because even though everyone can get the badge for it, being an Arbiter means everyone attacking you is basically attacking Recluse, and that makes running around on RI with hostiles everywhere pretty...bizarre.
same here
Edit: Sorry, just realised I missed to add the most important part:
Personally I don't have a character who's related to any of the canon characters and I wouldn't encourage others to do that for reasons that have already been brought up here. The only characters I have, that have any connection to canon characters at all are my arachnos soldier an widow. -
My guess is as emotional as the thread was in the beginning, it led the the release of some pent-up tension about certain aspects and maybe even between some people. Before CBs post though I would have said things will go back to normal within a short amount of time now that everyone had the chance to air their opinions.

Quote:Nice try Pious, but no one ever said we shared every bit of RP, that's not even possible and you very well know that. What we share is basically the canon and a history of player created stories, and considering the amount of players, that's alot.If not, then perhaps our 'shared' world... isn't so truly shared.
For every plot there is, there will be people who won't join in for many different reasons. One such reason could be trouble in RL and because of that either not much time or interest, another one could be that they are running a plot at the same time themselves. And of course, one that has been named as a reason not to take part in the plot we were talking about here is people having different views on how strong player characters should be, what they are able to do and what's considered an atrocity and what daily routine aswell as some other things.
Now we can either all get into an argument over every plot there is (or just have very weird RP because of different views), or we simply don't join plots we don't want to take part in and agree on what we all can agree on. -
Quote:And again you're allowed and even welcome to do so, but at the same time, players of the unionverse are allowed to use them or not, and as far as I can tell, the answers have been given to you a few times already now, which is the reason I asked.Just offering what I still continue to think as alternative solutions to such a situation. Beyond that it was offering advice on how to prevent and/or stop such a situation.
Quote:Finally - I voiced my opinion on the matter because I'm currently involved in a forum-based open RP that involves the sudden relocation of all of Paragon City (well insofar as the characters participating know is the entire city of Paragon...) to a far-off planet known as Patches. This would definitely constitute a wide-scale event, yet it was imaginatively thought out and presented to anyone that reads the forums by another PLAYER. So, according to the vast majority of the Unionverse players, such an RP would be a developer-level wide scale event, yet it's NOT. Why would the devs want to even let such a thing happen? There's plenty of conflict and strife to be had right here on this planet. -
I too have a Huntsman, it's very viable believe me. For a while I've played with someone who never started a mission for his team below +4 x8.
-
Quote:That's actually something I agree on in general (exceptions possible if plausible). I see nothing wrong with a superstrength character throwing things as Omega mentioned, but a blaster being a tank is rather odd.I can't stand people who make characters who are 'everything'.
I believe people should stick somewhat to the AT types we get. That means no DBZ martial arts scrappers, who mainly use kung fu but have more energy blasts than any blaster, of course I also dis-like it when people play Blasters that are 'tougher' than tanks.
It's funny we were talking about MMs before though, as for most of them, these limits of yours strip them of the ability to be (personally) more powerful than Statesman and many others, because per definition a MM doesn't "solo" anything. They always have their "minions" do most of the work and without them, they are rather weak. -
Don't get me wrong, you're welcome to share your opinion, but I'd really like to know why changing how things are handled in the unionverse is so important to you when you're not even part of it.
-
No, I've always been "Cats" for all my CoX career (since november 2007 to be exact, I just didn't bother to join the forums). I suspect that I'm the reason she used a "z" though, as I've already been around when Catz was still playing.

Quote:While I'm not, and I haven't been attacked here. Not a good theory. This thread seems to have derailed in to Galaxy Girl roleplayers vs Cactus Brawler and every other roleplayer who doesn't subscribe to the GG way of thinking.
There seems to be two separate communities here, Galaxy Girl and everyone else. I suggest they stay separate as they obviously don't get along, seeing as almost all the posts against CB seem to be from that quarter, even though he's CHANGED his plot so that they don't have to become involved now! -
Quote:I haven't seen you RP ig yet so please help me understand what this truely means. Do you mean by this that given the right situation (like having too many people fighting you after such a plot), you consider the possebility to let Liz die, or does that rather mean that theoretically she'll killable, but in truth no matter how many are after her, that will never happen?I never said Liz was unkillable.. Far from it even. But she is expecting an attack which means she has several escape routes pre-worked out. As would Dr. Doom has and even the smaller villains. And I am not playing her as a small bank robbing villain.
She is a vampire and a witch. Put a stake through her heart and she will die. Silver will stop her regenerating.. A cross or any holy symbol will hurt her... Holy water too... She can not enter churches.. she can not stand on holy ground. Just watch a movie on vampires and you know she is killable.
Quote:And for that reason I purple slotted and made Elizabeth over the past years strong enouigh to solo Statesman as AV at lvl 53. It takes a while but she can do it.
Credibility is important.
If I use Elizabeth vs Statesman as excample. Statesman is still stronger in super strenghth and touchness. But she is just a tad more powerfull in debuffing spells and manpower. That is not the same. -
Just a wild guess, but I think it's the reason why many don't want to get involed with certain people. At least I know of one more to whom this applies.
-
Quote:It might not help you, but you're not the only one in this situation. Although for me it's not exactly the same.I'm going to ignore it as an event, I'm afraid. I've never had to do so, yet, RPing on Union. I'm disappointed that I find myself in a position where I'm either forced to take cognizance of an event that would infuriate my characters into drastic action or ignore it, but until or unless it is toned down to the point where I can comfortably have my characters say, IC, "A terrible tragedy, but there isn't anything we can do - let their enemies deal with them, to save me from going overboard" - which is simultaneously accepting the events and not getting involved - then I'm not prepared to accept it.
That may make me a bad RPer, and I have no desire to be one, but I have less desire to find myself embroiled in a plot I didn't choose to take part in. -
Quote:It was talked about the Court because that's who it was assumed to be OOC. In all honesty, as said before, every single hero would be after who did it and by ALL those "hackers", telepaths, magicians and so on... it's pretty safe to say that from a roleplaying point of few, it's very likely whoevery was responsible would be found. That's part of the problem here actually. This plot would cause a response so big that we don't even have the ability to appropriatly react to it, we would have to ask the devs to help us with that. Now as i've been out of this plot for a while due to RL. Plus only being a now and again rper and this being my first partaking into a plot this big, even though not recently. I think its fair to say it was intended all along that somone will find out it was not the Court at all. As well the diea of. (OMG THE COURT DON'T EXSIST AND EVERY CHAR REMOTELY CONNECTED TO IT MUST BE IGNORED!!!). is a little silly, I can see why but it is jumping the gun a little. I mean the Court characters theirselves could say on the most part. What?! and possibly turn on it when they find out, so theoretically if the court does get blown up, wiped out for something like this even some of the court would walk out and turn on their allies for this, so even that can be dealt with IC if the need arises.
However I don't think thats the point of the plot here. To the best of my knowledge it was always intended to be found out that the real culprit was nothing to do with the Court. As well franky I belive that folks didn't want to drag anyones characters into it and certainly don't want to kill people off as everyone hates god modding thats one thing we all agree on. -
Quote:That's probably because most who would have never bothered to take part in the plot in the first place. To be fair everyone's attitudes in this thread have started to deteriorate.
Though now it's seeming like I'm going to end up getting even more annoyed, if peoples view is "Your RP should have no impact on my RP, even if I can join in and influence it in the form of an open RP thread, yet I've chosen to ignore that opportunity.".
For example, no heroes in the thread bothered to search the school for survivors (which kinda shocked me) instead focusing on the big robot, which would of reduced the casualties. -
Sorry Pious, but with this statement you've made yourself look ridiculous.
-
-
I have to agree here. The only realistic result would be literally total destruction for the ones responsible.
-
I'd be careful with pulling such a large world-changing plot and inviting what might be a vast majority to "just ignore it" without a real reason. If that's the "court's lore" and most of the other people follow one where this never happened, it might lead to some simply ignoring the court on a long term.
-
So this is supposed to be a "we go down in flames" plot?
-
Quote:I think setting the number of casualties simply wouldn't work, just because it doesn't even have to be casualities. It would be just as ridiculous if half of Paragon fell into a coma and no one reacts. It's about how big is it. Also take into account that in this case it's a school. It's possible that there are certain events where even a thousand people are killed, but the public, and heroes are no excuse here, always reacts differently if it's children and there's also a difference between them being "collateral damage" or the actual target. But just out of curiosity, if we were to propose a limit on plot magnitude or number of casualties within a plot, where would you place the mark? No plots allowed that would cause the involvement of more than twenty(?) heroes in Paragon City? Just because they shouldn't have to be in a position beyond their control?
Also I'm no one who wants to forbid any plots. If you feel like trying to dominate the world, go ahead. All I ask is to "stay within reason", which even if it sounds stupid, in case of world domination means: fail. Once you cross a certain point, you'll have more enemies on you than you can deal with, no matter how invincible you think you are. So I'm ok with it for example even if a single group wants to go to war with all of Paragon's heroes, if they take into account that they will go down unless they come up with a very good way out. -
Quote:I think the concern here is that things have to be within reason. What you basically suggest here is if someone decided to kill half the population of Paragon and for some reason none of the Roleplayers reacts to it, it did happend and he did get away with it because all heroes were "busy" at the moment. We play a game here where people are not online 24/7 to play their characters, so naturally we have to deal with our own and everyone else's time table and preference, but at a certain point the world becomes ridiculous from an roleplaying point of view and it would be a good idea to make sure that plots don't go that way.To summarise, I don't think we can or should, as a whole, try to limit plot magnitudes as we do character-godliness magnitudes, based on the argument that it forces an unwanted story to reach our characters. Why? Simple, its a shared universe and a massively multiplayer game.

That people don't care much for what happenes in other countries (or in that case planets) is nothing new. But the death of 1000 children in their own town is something they can hardly ignore. To be honest, it actually sounds a bit like suicide to me, because something like this would probably draw the attention of every single "hero group" including Freedom Phalanx and next to no one fighting side by side with you (loyalty isn't seen that often amongst villians, especially in such a case). So it pretty much sounds like "the people who did this" against all of Paragon City, which is ok I guess, if you are also willing to live with the consequences.

And how do you give Fortitude and AB to yourself?
-
So what? If there's two with the same name, someone has to step back. It's an easy solution and we europeans are the ones asking for it and the ones who will benefit most from it, it's only fair if they hold the privilege of keeping their global names. And you can still stay "EU TrueMetal" if you want.
