    Tonight on Gladiators

Slight change in plan as I found organising quite tiring, I won't be turning up in Pocket D until 7pm. Sorting through my hours of footage for what works and what doesn't may take some time!

Tonight I would like half of the evening to get some focus on chatting and some interviews as well as organising some fights.

In future; if you and one of your opponents can arrange a time to meet and fight let me or @oreso know and we'll get the match sorted no matter what the day. The weekend sessions are just there to ensure there's definately a ref there for you and extra people to mingle with.
  2. Don't worry guys we have a couple of weeks to do qualifier stuff

Thanks to everyone who turned up tonight, I'll put up results and ammend points totals so far in the morning when more awake! There was a lot of hitty tonight, there'll be more tomorrow but I hope for some talky too. I'd especially like interviews with those that have competed thus far.
  3. An hour until I go sit and wait in Pocket D

I'm updating the lists of who's in what qualifier all the time so keep an eye on them!
  4. I know pure competitors are quite high in level, however Von Schaden did well enough against Katie considering her being a level 50 and her slotting. I'd actually rate his chances and encourage you to stay in Al ^^

    ----

Right guys, all the fun starts tomorrow and I just wanted to get in a quick word on The Gauntlet. Both @oreso and I are happy to be grabbed ingame, however if you'd like a particular time/date booked for you, please don't hesitate to PM me here, send either of us an offline tell or ingame email or reply on this thread. We'll be sure to get back to you to let you know if we can or can't earmark that time for you.

NB: The Gauntlet is a 30 minute experience, so including setup and stuff afterwards please allow 45 mins - 1 hour of free time to do it (more if I'm running it and your character would like to be interviewed before or after!)
  5. Alpha slots in the Leagues:

All-Star; anything goes. However I will be allowing a grace period of 1 week where players can postpone challenges if they've not yet gotten their rare Alpha boost as the strike pack is so new.

[b]Pure League;[/u] is supposed to be about skill over extra empowerment we would like competitors to be on a more even footing. So, alpha boosts are allowed but players should work out how to be on a more even footing. EG: If one player has their rare and the other only has uncommon the level boost is a good advantage, in this situation I would suggest both agree to unequip their alpha slot boosts. If two characters have their rare boosts then they're good to go as they are.

Will have to be replaced. Orrery has asked for Unbeweglich to be on the NH team line-up, which I'm fine with.
That's ok hun. I only kept Pious' name in there as the show know he's missing but kept him in in the hopes of his return. I will however remove your name as an ooc contact for the team and add Unbe to the team lineup for the NHers.
  6. (This is also in the first post of this thread)

    Gladiators Ready?!

Gladiators starts Saturday 5th of February at 7PM above the monkey cage in Pocket D! We'll be hosting battles in a variety of leagues between metahumans from throughout the cosmos and beyond! All competitors and spectators welcome!

    When can I fight?
You can fight your designated opponent, challenge someone, enter the Gauntlet or fight an exhibition/grudge match whenever you and your opponent(s) are free and you can grab a referee to oversee the fight, note the result and record it!

Referees are @Bunny (me) and @oreso, with @Alcione as ‘backup ref’. We can be contacted at any time via tells or ingame email to arrange matches (unless we're already in a match) and we will always get a ref in Pocket D on weekends. On the day of launch @Bunny will be in PD from 6:30 pm (British time) until late(ish) and on Sunday the 6th from 3 pm 'til late(ish). When the refs clock-in during subsequent weekends will depend on demand.

How long will Gladiators go on?
This depends on interest and how quickly we get through stages of the competition. We’ll do our best to keep it on a reasonable time frame whilst still allowing some ’wiggle room’ for people with RL commitments to participate fully. Watch this space for updates on this as time progresses and we get a feel for things.

    Who’s my opponent?
Please check below for who your opponents are. Please note that I have left space for people to turn up on the day or sign up late. It would help a lot if people filled in the form however, there’s still time!

Globals of players are provided to help organise times for matches. Do feel free to contact these players yourself.

    All-Star League
All-Star League is split into qualifier groups you may challenge anyone in your qualifier group, the idea is for you to fight everyone in your group and the top 2 of each group progress to the next round of competition.

    Group 1 “Plum Blossom”
    1. Hitmark (@Longier)
    2. Techbot ALPHA (@Techbot ALPHA)
    3. Storm (@Thunderar)
    4. WarpLocke (@Wolfram)
    5. The Amber Banshee (@Dante)

    Group 2 “Ill Wind”
    1. Drew Firstblood (@Ammon)
    2. CX-1237 (@CX)
    3. Colonel Amanda Reynolds (@Longier)
    4. Lucius Macbain (@oreso)
    5. ShadowSlicer

    Group 3 “Bearer of Aegis”
    1. Lady Arete (@Lady Arete)
    2. Thingamewhatzit (@Nychus)
    3. Ray Hammerfall (@Sniper Three)
    4. Dismal (@Night)

    Group 4 “Ruin”
    1. Iron Anderson (@Kiken)
    2. Hella Hardcore (@Bunny)
    3. Elizabeth Bathory (@Elizabeth Bathory)
    4. Common Sense (@Pearsh)
    5. Discontent (@Alcione)

Qualifying matches are expected to take 2 – 3 weeks to organise and complete. Any late signups/people turning up in the first two weeks of competition will be given slots in these groups, so please keep an eye for updates on additions to your qualifier group.

    Pure League
Competitors are split into two qualifying groups. These groups will function as the qualifying stage of All-Star does with the top 2 of both groups progressing to the next stage.

    Group 1 “The Prestidigitator”
    1. Silvas (@Black Knight)
    2. Von Schaden (@Techbot ALPHA)
    3. Pious Hunter (Character is out of action)
    4. Unbeweglich (@TheOrrery)

    Group 2 “Mystic Maiden”
    1. Boarder (@Alcione)
    2. Double Edged (@Pearsh)
    3. Alphaea (@oreso)
    4. Tarana (@Elizabeth Bathory)

As with the All-Star league we will put late signups/arrivals on the day into these groups, but would prefer to be notified in advance of people planning to join. There's plenty of opportunity here for people to jump in with a quickly respeced second (or third) SO build!

    Best Newcomer
The newcomers have 2 – 3 weeks to challenge one another and prove themselves, the two that perform best will be put through to the final stage of this competition.

    Newcomer competitors:
    • La Zorra (@Wolfram)
    • Kiya Papu (@Iynx)
    • Carl (@oreso)
    • Fairy Cake (@Bunny)
    • Tac Team (@Nychus)
    • Foreboding (@cactus Brawler)

This competition also welcomes more signups and will take on all newcomers arriving on the day. By far the cheapest competition to enter, just grab a level 20 and go!

NB: The top two in all qualifying groups will be determined using the following points system: 3 for a Win. 2 for a Draw. 1 for a Loss. If a competitor is unable to challenge everyone in their group they will be awarded an extra 1 point for each match they were unable to arrange.

    Team League
Teams are invited to challenge one another to earn points. The Scoring system is as follows: Decisive Win, doubling the opponent's defeats: 5 points! Win: 3 points! Draw: 2 points! Lose: 1 point!

On the second to last week the Team League will enter the Heat Stage! The teams that have played the most matches cannot compete for this week, and the other teams have this week to catch up until they've played the same number! If there is still a discrepency, any team that has played less matches will be graced with 1 point per missing match.

The two teams with the highest scores at the end of the Heat Stage will face off for one last fight in the last week to determine the overall winner and who is left with second place!

    Registered Teams:
    Team Hardcore (@Bunny)
    The Nighthunters (@TheOrrery/@Thunderar)
    The Corporation (@Bunny/@Techbot ALPHA/@CX/@Pearsh)
    The Foundry (@Bunny/@oreso/@Alcione/@Q.)
    Cadre/unnamed mercs team(@Dante/@Romanov/@Wolfram/@Ammon/@Dipster)
Gladiators (Still not a full team - @Lady Arete/@Elizabeth Bathory)

    Gladiators Gauntlet
Once the show starts Gladiators can enter the Gauntlet whenever they wish! Just contact @Bunny or @oreso.

But please note, as other matches are being run on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and this will steal the refs' attention, we'd prefer to run them at other times.

    Can I help at all?
Yes, yes you can, you awesome person you!

I am currently collecting OOC prizefunds, from in-game inf and items to anything you can think of that would make a nifty prize. If anyone wants to donate it’ll be gratefully received.

I’m also happy to take any footage you have of the action taking place. Just record a demo file and send it to me. I would especially love it if one or two people could record their Gauntlet runs in this fashion as I won’t be able to go in with people for fairness sake (I don’t want to accidentally agro anything for people!)

And that’s all for now, please keep an eye here and on the Handbook pages for updates!
  7. We're starting this Saturday! Please, please, please if you plan to take part and haven't signed up yet go here and fill in the form!

I will take signups on the day but people who sign up beforehand will find things run more smoothly for them as I can schedule things and they can rest assured they definately have a competition spot.

    As things stand:

    All-Star Competitors: 18
    Pure Competitors: 6
    Newcomer Competitors: 3
    Teams: 5

    With those numbers setup will likely involve the following;

All-Stars will be split into qualifier groups, competitors will have 2 - 3 weeks to challenge everyone in their group, the top 2 performers from each group progress to a traditional league setup.

Pure Competitors will be put into a qualifying league, competitors who win their bouts are put through to the finals league, the others are put into contention with one another to get extra spot(s) in the finals league.

Newcomers will be handled like teams - any newcomer can challenge another newcomer, competitors will be ranked based on performances in these bouts and a final will be held in the last week of Gladiators.

    -----

NB: A player can have up to 2 characters in each league (2 x All-Star, 2 x Pure, 2 x Newcomner) should they wish, we'll do all we can to ensure they aren't drawn against each other for as long as we can!

A character can only enter one of the three leagues (so we don't have the same person winning All-Star and Pure!)

    ------

More competitors would be great so if you have an interested alt now DXP has been and gone or know somebody who might enjoy this get yourself/them to the signup sheet!!

We also need to look at the teams situation, Lady Arete expressed an interest in being in a team are any other solo competitors interested? I can put together 'pot luck' teams if there's interest just say here or on the signup sheet!
  8. Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm glad people are liking the stuff so far.

Promo Episode Part Three is uploaded!

    In this part:

    Lady Arete Interview
    Lady Arete vs Unbewegelich
    Mass Melee
    Amber Banshee and Lucius Macbain

    -----

This is the final part of the promo, all 3 pieces together make a 35 minute show, wow. Thanks for all the great content guys!
  9. Promo Episode Part Two is uploaded!

    In this Part:

Vanessa Era vs Von Schaden and Lucius Macbain
    Von Schaden vs Discontent
Discontent, Iron Anderson and Lady Arete backstage discussion
    Discontent vs Iron Anderson

    Coming Soon:
    Part 3 -
    Chat with Lady Arete
    Lady Arete vs Unbeweglich
    Mass Melee
  10. The 'opening credits' track is playing very quietly over the talky bits, your volume may be a lil low to catch it. It's all a question of trial and error as I learn!
  11. Promo Episode Part One is uploaded!

I was going to do one long episode but to save people from being overwhelmed I decided to break it down into two or three parts!

    In Part One:

Ray Hammerfall vs Techbot ALPHA (Sorry for lame angle on this one)
    Interview with Alpha and Omega
    A chat with Lucas Payne
Lucas Payne vs Pyralith (Apologies for my chat window and power trays!)
A favourite quote of the evening

    "After the Break":

    Vanessa vs Lucius/Von Schaden
    Von Schaden vs Discontent
Discontent, Iron Anderson and Lady Arete caught chatting
    Discontent vs Iron Anderson
    Natalie talks with Lady Arete
    Arete vs Unbeweglich
    Mass Melee
  12. If people have interest/concepts for the best newcomer that aren't at level 20 I am more than happy to help with those lower levels, just let me know!

And work on the episode continues, I would have been done by now but I spent a productive afternoon yesterday learning about demo editting and with a little trial and error have improved some shots and saved one of my demo files - yay! So I only have one unsavable that I'll have to resort to FRAPs recording for ^^

Recorded and ready for the episode:

Natalie chats with Alpha and Omega
    Natalie talking with Lady Arete
    Natalie meeting Lucas Payne
The camera catches a snip of a conversation between Jake, Iron Anderson & Discontent
    Ray Hammerfall vs Techbot Alpha
    Lady Arete vs Unbeweglich

    Still in editting:

    Von Schaden/Vanessa/Lucius fighting
Iron Anderson & Discontent (This is the file that didn't save properly)
    Discontent vs Von Schaden
    Some mass melee bits

So getting there, the more I learn the quicker the editting process gets so when it comes to launch there should be less of a wait to see the action uploaded
  13. An update on all things organisey on the Gladiators front from me:

    Sign-Ups so far:

    * All-Star League: 17 competitors
    * Pure League: 5 competitors
    * Best Newcomer: 2 competitors
    * Team League: 5 teams
    * Gladiators Gauntlet: 10 competitors

And I have received feedback from several others saying they'd like to join but who haven't filled in the signup sheet. I am expecting some people to just show up at launch, I do however advise people that signing up in advance means we can schedule matches better.

There seems to be some reservation over best newcomer, it's a good opportunity to dig out the lowbies or for characters fresh out of Praetoria to prove themselves as real up and comers!

Teams: I know there are a few people (including the lovely Lady Arete) still looking for teams, feel free to use this thread to do some ooc organising, or give your name to me if your character is looking for a team. I'm happy to do my all to help people form their teams or join existing ones!

    Prize Fund:

The IC prize fund of cold hard cash still stands but there is an ooc prize fund being rounded up.

I'm really not expecting donations from anyone, but anything people have spare to give as a small bonus to winners is gladly received! In addition to inf, enhancements, recipes etc donations of time and skills are welcome too! Winner of best newcomer wins training with established fighters, why not volunteer your time and have your character be one of these trainers and do some one on one training RP? Or if you can draw, why not offer a sketch of the winner? Anything really, this is all for fun!

    Gladiators Training Day?:

Just a quick idea that struck me today. Next weekend is DXP would anyone be interested in a Gladiators training day? IC missions by a team (or teams), maybe on the Saturday or Sunday afternoon? This would also potentially be good for people meeting to form teams for the team league. Gets XP and shiny drops plus an RP fix ^^

    Preview Episode:

    I'm sorting through videos from the preview night still! Unfortunately demorecord is a tempermental little thing so some fights I didn't catch that way I did however have FRAPs going so the ones not demorecorded can still be shown it'll just have my power tray and other annoyances in the way a lil ^^;
  14. Thank you to everyone who attended last night, it was a load of fun. Now I just need to sift through all my recordings and see what I can make of them, expect something early next week!

    Extra thanks go out to;

@oreso for helping with the organisation of the evening, you're a star!
and @Wofram who has kindly made a donation to the prize fund! (OOC ingame prize fund is yet to be confirmed as it depends on what can be scraped together but there will be some inf/recipes/enhancements up for grabs!)
  15. I can edit his entry in my lil database of entries for you. I hope you'll have fun with the Gaunlet!
  16. Thanks for all the signups so far. The form is still there for people to fill in!

And remember the promo evening is Tonight - 7PM onwards, Pocket D. So come along if your character wants to find out more IC, as a competitor or fan, or if you want to form a team for the team league, or maybe just to take part in a trial/exhibition match!
  17. Created a small video preview of the Gauntlet!

Still looking for more signups and it's the promo event this Saturday!
  18. NB: Promo day is still occuring on the 22nd. The main launch of the show is now February 5th so we don't lose people to the PvE frenzy of DXP!
  19. And it has come to my attention that the 29th is the middle of the double XP weekend - yikes!

Are people happy with a launch of the 29th or would they prefer it moved to February 5th?
  20. Thanks guys ^^

I have also updated the first post with planned launch date and easy link to signup sheet etc
  21. 8 is the maximum pool - you can have a team of the bare minimum of 4 it just wouldn't allow substitutions and the like if a member didn't show ^^

Shall change the wording later to say a team is a pool of up to 8.
  22. Working on the timings for an exact launch date, I've had the flu since New Years which threw planning out a smidge. Signups are still there though - keep filling it that form so we have an idea of numbers and can start forecasting how many weeks it'll likely run over ^^
  23. SIGN UPS ARE OPEN

(Will add something more indepth later!)
  24. Promotion work continues with the uploading of a video blog featuring one of the hosts for the upcoming season!

For more about this video and to post your (IC) response, see the Kapow! Blog
  25. The current plan to allow for variety and for a player to be on a few teams with different characters is;

A team is a pool of 8 characters, but only 4 enter a match this allows wiggling room for people not being present or chopping and changing of the team for tactical reasons.

The team title will be decided on a points basis rather than a knockout league. Whilst the other events are ongoing the team league is open - any team can challenge any other team but a referee (and camera crew!) need to be there for the match to count. Current proposed scoring will be: Decisive Win (doubling enemy defeats) 5 points, Winning 3 points, Drawing 2 points, Losing 1 point. The two teams with the highest scores face off for one last fight in the last week to determine the overall winner.

As with all the rules we're still smoothig out the edges to make this fun and fair for all
