I wasn't willing to wait that long. My first tanker was an ice/ice, and I loved him.
Got him to 24th and then started to die time after time. "[censored]?" I thought. Still kept at it for a while, then I saw my friend running a scrapper tank stuff better than I was.
So I quit my ice tanker. It is without a doubt the WORST set in the game now. Still. I like it a lot, but the noise and massive holes in the set will keep me from ever playing it again.
Least til it's fixed.
Edit: And to reply to Blue's post, I thought my ice tanker was kicking [censored] too. Til I ran an Invulnerability up to 32nd in two weeks without dying. My stone tanker I've gotten to 25th in two weeks as well, and he can tank 42 Rikti when sidekicked. Ten at a time. Plus Mentalists. Ice tankers don't even tank minions as well as the others, and they use more endurance to do it. Something BIG needs to change. -
They need ta up the Defense on the few ice powers that don't come close to maxing the cap.
Maybe have the armors on their own kick off at LEAST a +85% defense to what they're supposed to block. Having S/L defense at a higher value (say about 150% when Wet Ice and FA are up) would be nice. Then you wouldn't have to totally stick with even cons without fear of getting your twig and berries stomped.
This'd mean you still need to use EA, but you're not screwed if you're not built to chain it or don't have enough baddies to siphon.
Basically, EA should still be able to floor defense on a single +4 boss. Otherwise, how the hell is an ice tanker supposed to keep a team safe at all? -
Seems like Ice has the defense thing down okay with the changes (even the EA change) proposed. What you guys are saying all has a common theme, though.
"What's to save ice if it does get hit."
Quick solution I'd URGE the devs to seriously think about and we've brought up MANY times:
Give Permafrost the equivalent Damage Resistance to Smashing/Lethal that Stone Skin and Resist Physical Damage has.
If there's one stubborn dev who's been holding this change back, hold his head in the toilet til he agrees. Sheesh.
I honestly can't believe they haven't made that fix sooner. It's totally blatantly obvious as the easiest and best choice. This'd go a LONG way to taking this set out of the doghouse.
No tanker set should have to rely solely on defense. It's in our job description to take hits, meaning we WILL get hit. Ice Armor as is has a glass jaw. Which it shouldn't. A two hundred pound block of ice won't even shatter if you shoot it. Sure, stuff'd chip it, but ice tankers can reform new ice at will. In a sense, that would give them DAMAGE RESISTANCE!!
Tweaking how their +def armor works will never bring Ice Tankers into line.
Because that's not what's the problem with them.
A totally +def tanker will never EVER be as good as a resistance tanker. Resistance tankers can max defense with Pools. Ice gets what, +33% smashing and lethal from Tough? EVER? -
Defense drop'd make sense. If you just went berserk, you're not gonna care about taking a knife to the chest, long's you get to twist the head off anyone you manage to get your hands on.
So! Cut the downtime off it, add a BIG defense debuff to it (most sets are resist sets anyways, defense doesn't matter ta most), and maybe up the damage buff to it a bit more.
Rage should be kind of what you'd expect a Troll ta do if you called his mom a trollop. Totally flips out, ignores the fact that he's getting cut to pieces by machine guns, and then smashes everyone's head like he's sledgehammering watermelons.
Berserkers weren't dangerous cuz they hit hard, they were dangerous cuz they hit hard and had no regard for their own safety. -
Heh, could make it like Phantasmal Killer in NWN, but maybe having the potential to make a target drop dead on seeing the Phatasm's a bit too powerful.
Seriously, though, I'm not even sure why they'd be running, as Fear was supposed to have been switched to the "cower" effect.
Hell, why not just give it mobility and instead of all this aura stuff give it a nicely maxed Touch of Fear to swat stuff with. -
Hate to be a Grinch, but the game is also blatantly listed as suggested for Teen +. Hence anyone 12 and under was never really intended to be playing this anyways. I know I wouldn't let MY kid play, knowing what dips I meet online.
