[DDO is also a PVE only game. However, despite being the template for Everquest and every fantasy game developed since the 1970s, it's failed to market well, due to the lack of any PVP options.

It failed to market well do to forced grouping, bad quest ideas, no over world, no crafting, and no pvp. In my case, the fact that you need a full group to get anywhere in a quest, and XP was only awarded at the completion of the quest, not for mobs killed, ruined the game for me.
To many things failed in DDO. They have PvP now, and many of their forum goers seem to think that DDO is the future of MMO games. I still won't play it, and I love D&D. I have been waiting for that game since 1983. -

Do they not have sports in school anymore? Something about competition bringing out the best in people ect...
[/ QUOTE ]
High school atheletics brings out the WORST in people. Rage, bigotry, cheating, violence. Oh yeah, High school sports is horrible, and I lived in a small town. To the school, the YEARLY riot against their rivals was a good thing.
Competition is good. The problem is to many people in this country seem to think that beating the crap out of the opposition is a good morale booster.
Sit in on the majority of those pre game chats. They are not becoming model citizens. They are becoming violent adolescents with the idea that the high school owes them.
FYI, I like sports, at least some of them. I like martial arts, both in practice and in tournaments. I like soccer. I liked World League Football. I love running and swimming. I greatly admire marathon runners and triathletes. My PoV has nothing to do with sports. -

Streetfighter? Mortal Combat? Sports games? Halo?
[/ QUOTE ]
I hated PvP in these games. Never played Halo, a FPS, and never will, but the other two I enjoyed. PvP in Streetfighter/MK means the loss of game time for someone, the inability to see the end if you are losing, and dealing with someone who memorized the moves of every character and knows every counter.
I never cared for PvP in VIDEO games. I am all for co-op play. I am not the only one.
PvP is not great. Never has been, never will. Looking at most game releases over the past 10 years point to that.
By the way, please don't include sports games. Other than racing games, only Americans seem to like sports games, and a good number of those people are HAPPY with PvE. I should know, I speak with the (decides against an offensive word) individuals on a regular basis. -
I do see your point, and I am not one to cry "carebear".
I have seen lots of games with very good ideas, and a PVP focus never get off the ground. RF Unlimited anyone? Where is Shadowbane now?
I also see the same with PvE games. Horizons, and Ryzom come to mind. PvP is not what makes WoW so popular. It is a part of what makes WoW so popular. Say what you will about WoW, the companies want a chunk of their player base. So should everyone in the game. More subscribers means more money for development.
PvP is fine. Just don't delude yourself into thinking it is "all that and a side of fries". Looking at the populations in game and reading what the forums have to say, in most games PvP zones are underpopulated. That tells me most people do not want PvP. -
PvP does not pay the bills. PvP is a minor part of the game, of many games. If PvP pays the bills, then every MMO out there is dead as soon as Fury goes live.
Look, let's dispel your myth. If PvP is what all players want, and that is not true by any stretch of numbers you may find, then games like Exteel are what the future of gaming is. That's a sad thought. Simply put, if you stripped the PvE out of a game, you would kill it.
This is not a PvP is bad post/reply. PvP is a fine thing in moderation, but playing against a bunch of l33t speaking juveniles who think "teabagging" is the greatest thing ever turns my stomach. Nor do I think PvP is the end game for anything. Unless the game is stingy with character slots, there are always alts, and raids.
A MMO needs several things to be successful. PvP is a PART if that equation. It is not the main or the largest part of the equation though. If that was the case, most PvPers would not be here, they would be in WoW, or Fury, or Planetside, or DAoC. They would be were the PvP was polished and good. That tells me there is more to a game than PvP.
PS before you shout carebear. I have PvPed. Sullon Zek, EQ1. I lost. I won. I used my head. I hated the entire server as it made me pay more attention to my chat bar then the stunning work (for the time) that was put into the game. You see, I play games to explore new worlds, and see new things. To play with other people. If I go to the beach, i do not want to get into a fisticuff with someone wandering by. I want to admire the ocean. The same goes for the game. I don't care about you and your desire to ruin my fun. I want to admore the work that goes into creating the game. You can't do that while face planted. -
Try since before I5. I signed it way back then.

3 spams in 1 hour. All from the same website/person with a slightly different global. The MMO's need to due something about this. Badly. I am now on /hide and /ghide. Hopefully that takes care of it.
What makes this even worse, is that they use the name of their website as their name.
Besides, isn't against most EULAs to advertise your web site in game? isn't that a way to crack down on them? Come on!!
*Takes a deep breath*
It's to damn early for this. -
I think this is one of the best ideas ever. It may not be combat, it may not "empower" our characters, but it would be FUN.
For those "Challenge=Fun" Cultists, think of the CHALLENGE of maintaining the ball while we are having FUN playing with it.
