  1. Youse are all geeks! Stop drooling!

*I* just came in to b!tch that the game is down on my ONE day off work, just when I had an itch to save the world (yet again).

No, that isn't drool on my keyboard, that was the puppy!
  2. So they posted this announcement saying "North American zone players can buy etc etc".

I demand my rights as a bona-fide North American! In fact, MY part of North America is bigger than those damn yankees!

Canada puts the NORTH in North America, we deserve to play good games cheap too!

(And I think there's a half-dozen other countries that qualify too...)
  3. Anyone know of a way to order the $9.99 collection from Canada? BB Gamers Club says it is open to US residents only, and I can't locate the deal on the Canadian BestBuy website.

    Thanks for any help
  4. Thank you both, I was likely doing both things (clicking fast, and even though my example was 2 35's and 2 40's, I may well have just made 4 35's).

Appreciate the help I will try those out tonight.
  5. Recently I have been logging on to get some alts ready for I19, Xmas etc. Crafting some regular Defense, Resist, Acc etc. IO's to earn some inf and get the badges.

Sometimes I will take a look and see I have crafted "11 out of 15" Defense/Resist IO's needed for the next badge. So I will gather the materials, head to the university or my SG base, pop off those 4 IO's, and...

Hmm. No badge. Check my badge meter and it still says "11 of 15 level 35 and 40 defense/resist IO's". Scroll back, sure enough, I just made 2 35 defense, and 2 40 resist.

Is this something known that I have missed? (eg, you already crafted 10 items today and that is the max points you can get per day)

Or is there some kind of bug in the invention crafting counting system.

Just typed in the above example from memory, but if anyone needs more detailed info let me know.

    Thanks!
  6. Thank you, that was excellent reading! And some of the play tips weren't bad either! (kidding - humor always appreciated though)

I am actually in Storm from the Controller, Ice/Storm side of things. Only level 33 so far but looking ahead, and wondering at the comparison of Tornado vs. Psychic Tornado.

Since one of your builds mentions both, can you give me a bit of an idea as to the relative merits?

I take it Tornado does more ticks of damage, but has a smaller AoE around itself? Does Psionic Tornado behave the same or just sit where you put it?

My main idea would be to drop Ice Slick, hopefully get Jack into battle, drop FR, slap down Frostbite to keep them all in range (now that the alpha is done, aggro on Jack and debuffing started), and then whack them with one (or possibly both) Tornado.

Then I would stand in the middle of them all with Arctic Air on and remonstrate with them SEVERELY for the poor life decisions they have made. I think there is a Fear effect triggered when I wag my finger like that.

So for that kind of purpose, would Tornado or Psionic Tornado be more all-around useful (I want to deal damage and maybe disorient, not heave things all over creation).

Hope you can help with some practical advice, and if not, thank you so much for the excellent guide!

  7. I think the question was asked but I may have missed the answers...

    1) Since with current AI changes, stacking burn makes for too much fleeing and current suggestions seem to be 'only one burn at a time', is HASTEN as necessary as it used to be?

    2) With the punchvoke and putting taunts in BA and using Combustion to grab a lot of attention, when is the latest you would recommend getting taunt? (If at all)

    3) With the Sleep/Hold/Disorient protection now in the toggles, is ACROBATICS still necessary?

I like to use Burn intermixed with some offense, but not going click-crazy. So Scorch, Boxing, BA, Combustion, eventually Incinerate and tossing in the occasional Consume or HealFlames is enough clicking for me. If I skipped Acrobatics and took Taunt and Hasten late (if at all) that would add a fair bit of flexibility to earlier power choices.

Please let me know what you think. Thank you
  8. From my reading this topic has already been covered over 100 times. The less-than-huge changes in mobs that have been seen on test server don't really alter it much.

To summarize the best thoughts I have seen on it, and toss in some of my own:

    1. "Every AT 'should' be able to solo" does NOT mean the same thing as "every AT can solo well and level efficiently".

-It is the same in many games, actually, almost every MPG I know. Classes have different flavours. If you want to play a controller or defender, you are TOLD you will have a hard time soloing and will PROBABLY feel the need to team.

    2. "Every AT 'should' be able to solo" does NOT mean that every possible primary/secondary combo and set of power pool choices will allow you to solo effectively.

-If you MUST solo as a controller, pick Illusion. If you MUST solo as a defender, pick Rad as a secondary and grab some power pool attacks. My Grav/Rad CONTROLLER finished the Positron TF ALONE when his group gave up... the only thing that made this possible was that I had picked Air Superiority over Hover as my intro into Flying. It was a painful choice, but I knew I would need it some day and so I bit the bullet.

    3. "Every AT 'should' be able to solo" does not mean that you can ignore learning how to team, or learning the best roles for your hero, or how to build your own team, or how and when to quit the team you are on because they just aren't working. Same learning applies to soloing. I have some PRETTY weak controllers out there who can still take on bosses etc... but they have to learn how to pull, use insps, separate the mobs, run away, hit and run, and use ALL powers in combo to take down the boss. But I can do it. It just isn't efficient... but it does require maximum skill in playing my char. Which brings up...

    4. "Every AT 'should' be able to solo" does not mean it can be soloed with minimum skill or attention, or lack of patience, or not learning all the techniques you will need to do so. There is more than one way to skin a cat, and if the cat is bigger than you are... you better learn the BEST ways!

My thoughts: I started with a Spines/Regen scrapper BEFORE I ever saw these boards or FotM builds, because I could tell that it was a solo build just from the descriptions. If you want to learn a new game, pick a decent solo build to try it.

I then went straight to Grav/Rad controller, and Rad/Rad defender, and then Ill/Kin controller, because Cont/Def is a more 'natural' style to me. And I have soloed with each of them, but I am WAAYY faster in a good team. So I learned to be part of good teams.

To me, there is often an air of "I want to solo ANY BUILD I CHOOSE" to these "They are trying to force me to team" threads. Along with a dash of "But I don't want to choose non-optimal powers or slotting choices for my char to allow me to solo better".

    A) Develop your team skills and devote some powers and slots to team-enhancing powers. Run around to areas and help people out. SHow them what you can do. Add good teamers to your Friends list and email them and seek them out. Make a supergroup of good people. Then you will find teaming is not so terrible.

    B) Make the tough choices! If you love the idea of Mind Controller but it just doesn't work solo, DON'T cry that "the devs are trying to force me to team!". YOU chose Mind. Either pick up fighting power pools, or slot the one attack you do have and find a way to kill with it, or ask and learn and seek the techniques you need to hunt, or MAKE ANOTHER CHOICE. If the changes make solo a little harder, use your respec to make your hero a little togher!

    C) MAKE AN ALT! Lots of people say "But this is my char and I choose to spend all my time on him!" Fine! Then make some of the above choices. But if one hero is fun, two heroes are funnerer! Make something different and whacky and play it when you absolutely can't move ahead on your un-soloable char, and keep an eye out for people and teams that your main CAN work with while you play it!

I could toss out a couple more sharp, witty, incredibly wise thoughts... but don't you just find that kinda crap boring anyway?

    Good journeys to you all...

  9. Not sure what the problem with this is... Yes, I started the night running from door to door like a madman seeing what would pop out. It was fun! I was broadcasting and reading the broadcasts of others and enjoying it.

Then I bumped into a friend doing the same, we teamed up, and ran down the street checking both sides, and ran to the others fight and helped with each "trick". And THAT was fun.

Some blaster saw us having fun and asked if he could join. Sure! He flew up and saw an Eochai and we ran over and all got killed! And THAT was fun! We rez'd or were rez'd by other heroes there and we made some pumpkin pie! That was fun too!

Then we heard that you actually get some decent exp (and of course less debt) if you are in a larger group tough enough to deal some real damage to a PumpKing. So we called some friends, did a Find for some teammates, and ran around knocking on doors thinking a PumpKing would pop out.

Some people would get lost, some separated, some wander away, so we decided to stick in one square where there were about 8 different doors available and we checked various ones and arrested all those magical critters who were using a dimensional portal spell to use ANY door as a gateway to Paragon city (so it didn't matter if we used one door or many, the critters weren't IN the building having munchies with the citizens, the act of opening a door was magically opening the gateway).

And the flyers and SJ'ers would pop up and every time we saw a PumpKing we would all dash over and pound him and his minions into the ground! Some people would die, all of us would get very red at times, our healers and damage-dealers worked til they dropped (sometimes literally!) and we all tried to figure out how to use a Rock to Kill a King!

We laughed, we cursed, we had fun, and SOME of us got SOME badges but after 5 and a half hours of playing none had all. Most of us stated we didn't even know what the point of having badges was so we didn't really care, we were just HAVING FUN.

It is unfortunate that you thought it was boring to camp the same door all night. We tried different styles, cycled through different teammates, met some new and great people, had level 14's fighting beside 20's and everyone still getting exp and having fun. It was a long fun fight, and yes, most of us did level during it (even the 20 near the end) but it was the excitement that kept us there.

We had some tough critters that were purple to all us, we had some long chases (the vampire that ALMOST got away...) and we used our powers and our teammates in just about every way possible.

Granted, most of us were "newer" players, no one in the group had an alt higher than about 34, but we all used our 14-17 chars and let a 20 join because she was tired of running around alone all night and thought we were having a lot of fun.

Different playstyles, different strategies, some teaming, some solo-ing, some exp, some badges, some learning, and a LOT of fun and excitement had by all.

Now if THAT isn't what the dev's planned, I'll eat my hat!

In any game, as it has always been, different people will play their own way. Some people only care about grinding out exp, some about "accomplishments" (badges and archvillains here) and some just about having fun and meeting people. You can't make them play "your" way no matter how you program it.

THANK YOU STATESMAN AND DEVS! It was a lot of fun and made my favourite "fun" holiday even better!

    Good hunting to all!

(PS: I say phooey to all those who say nerf, exploit, silly badge-grinding nonsense etc. It is a GAME, it's primary reason for existence is to HAVE FUN! If you can't have fun with some teammates and Halloween nonsense then the problem does NOT lie with the game.)
