Were I you, I'd take that extra refund money and find one of the retail codes you haven't applied to your account yet and try it out. Double-checked... the redeem code link is still present under account details so I'm betting that workaround still functions.
The only question remaining for me is whether I lose VIP status 1 month after I applied that code. -

This is most likely incorrect. There is probably no current capability to 'flip a switch' and make everyone VIP. Therefore, someone at NCSoft would have to code a routine to do this, or start flagging maybe 100,000 accounts manually. So there would actually be a cost in terms of employee time spent.
This leads me to believe that VIP status us nothing more than a flag on the account. A flag that could be tripped to on for all accounts by anyone with access to the account database.
I think it far more likely that the reason for not doing it is tied to the belief that the servers would be flooded by trolls and gold farmers raising hell for the hell of it. Granted, that probably wouldn't happen to a large enough degree that any of us would care, but that's my thought. -

I *think* they're trying to legally uncouple the studio and all its assets from NCsoft/NCwest so it becomes it's own separate legal business entity (assuming NCsoft agree to relinquish "ownership" over several pieces of... Plenty of complications and legal implications arise from this kind of transaction (not accounting for global legalities as well) and there's a chance the game could be "inaccessible" after November 30th until such time as service is restored...
Tricky and I'm oversimplifying all the legalities and risks involved to do something like this, but I think NCsoft's intent to provide refunds is a pretty good reason to stay hopeful.
And then harass the living hell out of Mr. Miller to fix solo incarnate progression. So, hey, he's got that to fight for as well! -
Am I wrong in thinking that there's separate accounts for cohtitan.com and the forums that exist there?

It's just as likely that VIP status is nothing more than a flag on the account in question that could be flipped on for all accounts by any database admin worth his salt.

The dequeuing of powers is quite a PITA but I'm pretty sure this is the only way I'm going to experience a fully T4ed BZB before doomsday.

I had wiped everything so this is what I did when I heard about the shutdown:
Install NC launcher.
Had it install CoH to my games\coh directory.
Made a copy of that coh directory to games\cohbeta.
Pulled back up the NC launcher and had it install the beta client to cohbeta.
Done. -
I didn't know about it until last night. Figured I wasn't alone. Still have to get Hybrid XP the hard way, though.
