Your video driver is over 3 years old; see if you can find a more recent Nvidia driver thatdriver that's also compatible with the lattop (If it were a desktop, I'd just say go to Nvidia's site; but laptops sometimes rerquire tweaked drivers, so check and see what the Sony support site says. The error your getting smacks of a driver issue where the current (3 year old driver) doesn't support some Open GL calls made by the game, and that's why you're crashing.

I have been looking everywhere from Sony to NVIDIA for the "right" driver and to no avail. My update driver function reads no newer/better software, NVIDIA only has new drivers for this card on most laptops other than my VAIO, and Sony doesn't list there being any newer driver updates since the one I have.

Any clues, hints, or pointy signs currently covered by thick greenery?

Update graphics card drivers. If that doesn't work, update motherboard chipset/CPU driver. If that doesn't work...

    Check out this thread, <a href="/showflat.php?Number=12559637" target="_blank">Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines</a>

Then post the results of these two programs:

<ul type="square">[*]CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
[*]HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format &gt; Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.

From experience I've also encountered a problem like this personally, and I found, much to my chagrin, that it was caused by a video driver update I'd done. The end result was that I rolled back to the previous version of the driver I was running and I was back in business.

I only mention it as a possibility for completenesses sake, if you haven't manually updated your video drivers just before the problem occurred (or even more unlikey still you've got some sort of video driver automatic updates on), this probably isn't the cause of your problem.

Also do you have Windows Updates set to automatic? If so, an overnight download of the Windows updates could theoretically be causing some form of incompatibility.

Edit: Oooo, just noticed I'm now "Super-Powered", nice.

Before this interruption in City the last update of any kind for my laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-FE690G / WinXP SP3) was the minimum of a couple of weeks ago so nothing was changed on my end (and the wife has her own so it is no case of "wifely fingers making bad juju"). Last night after this all started I have been on a quasi rampage through various sites looking for possible fixes, errors, and or symptoms I just might be too computer illiterate to see as actually being there.

Yes I have WinUpdates set to auto but I checked last night and again this morning "just to be sure" and saw no evidence of anything going down last night or the last few nights either. Is it possible something changed in/for CoX overnight without any actual patches or is that a bit of stretch? I'm leaning towards stretchy myself but I'm running short of straw to grasp at.

  5. Long time player who has taken nearly as many breaks as I have time spent in game but I keep coming back. Recently I resubbed after learning about the introduction of the Mission Architect and was gaming just fine and lovely the week or so and today ... nada, The game won't let me in and the error messages that pop up mention...

"your card or driver is not supported / GL_ARB_Multextures"

I press "ok" after being warned in said pop up that the game might not play right then ...

    "GL_ARB_texturecompressions error"

    and CRASH -

card is NVIDIA GeForceGo7600 and has always gotten my fairly good results in game if not near max.

**edit** the laptop is a Sony Vaio in case that is of importance and the new driver I found at the NVIDIA site for some reason has VAIOs listed as exceptions to working with the new driver release

Any help would be appreciated and I thank you Wise Ones in advance. I have a sleeping baby whose sleeping time has become my playtime at night and it is a bit jarring to suddenly not be able to play something I could play just fine days ago.

    - most of the above report is greek to me so if a potential fix lies somewhere in there or if another problem is evident please let me know
  6. Thanks for the find, I made one for a certain Dom in my current rotation. I haven't put any entries or story stuff in it yet but when I do I'll share it back. By the way I liked the story you have going any chance you'll be updating it soon? I have a stalker who I think would really like to play with him if your Virtue too.
  7. As a player that left in mid August and coming back just a few weeks ago I felt like I had resurfaced in a bad Sliders episode of CoH.Ive delved thru the forums reading for hours at a time trying to take in----ED---- and all it entails. Ive played my old characters some 10-20s one 30+ and started several new ones.
The main thing I noticed right away is that I DO NOT feel as "superhero-ee" anymore(laugh away Forum Nazis)
I really do not want to sound over critical since I left CoH (my first MMO )to go to WoW (I do have a fantasy itch unfortuantely WoW just didnt scratch it)and only after a few months realized how much I missed CoH. Despite its lack of "Story" depth that I would like I missed its populace, character creation, and feeling like that Super Hero that I day dreamed of being in Jr.High (Im now 27 lol)so please devs dont feel that I hate you and your game and dont feel the need to call you names even. BUT the game that I missed so and will stay in (for now) has changed for the worse. No its not horrible now (from a man with no 50s) but I want the game that I missed so to come back. Yes Im ok with changes even ones that call for me or my alts to be a little weaker (for the sake of the game)I feel that im much more forgiving than many of the posts I read and for the first time I am sympathizing more with the ppl that I usually mentally chastise for their lack of"give". Why Devs? Why? Im not cancelling, not cursing you, not cursing the game, but WHY?
your one time real happy fan, and now glad to be back but no where near as happy player(notice the lack of fan)
