Ball Lightning - Level 50 Electricity Cubed - hardly hurt by ED.
I'm still rocking at just below invincible. In fact only thing that's really 'hurt' are my TB and EM Pulse recharge. They just suck now. Other than that I'm still doing fine.
However I've been playing him since release so I'm probably more familiar with ele/ele/ele than the guys who designed the power sets.I know what I can and can't get away with with him. (Most of the times. Sometimes though I just need to Leeroy for the hell of it.

Let me clarify this. I was invited to a team twice. I declined the invites because I don't believe I should be forced to team just to get a badge.

That's your choice then, no? You are picking a fight you can't win, basically. Relax dude and just join the team. Monsters were never meant to be solo'ed. Any monster that can has something wrong with it.
As another poster said these monsters were designed for teams. Also as another poster said this system prevents abuse. "Yeah, I got a badge off of The God of All Monsters that destroys you by looking at you! Walked up, hit brawl, and ran like a [censored] until he dies. Yeah, I'm good!"
Get the point we're trying to make? You are proposing an abusable system. Don't pick a fight with the system or the devs who try to keep everything fair, pick a fight with the idiots who abuse the system so things need to be implemented to stop it. -

Bushpig,
The respec TF only has about 3 or four missions to it. That's not a huge time commitment -- 1-2 hours, perhaps? And considering it's something you can do only once every 10 levels, starting at level 24, it shouldn't be putting that huge of a dent in your play schedule. And I have a hard time believing that respec teams are so hard to come by -- I was invited to both respec teams I served on, and I wasn't even looking to do it at the time.
And, of course, you could always plan out your hero correctly the first time around.

New, trust me... sometimes getting a respec team together hurts. Then there's always the 5 blasters no melee'ers/healer's team that's sure to be eating dirt when the reactor goes nova. -

Actually TaraWatt , ANY AT can solo to some degree or another. I proved to people that said it can't be done that an empathy defender CAN solo. BOOHOO you can't solo with a certain AT. Guess what? NO ONE is forcing you to play that AT. If you want to solo then pick a AT that can do it easier and have fun. I also hate to tell you this as having a 50 blaster myself there's never a point i can do every mission alone. ANY AV mish that comes up i HAVE to have a team. Do i whine about it like you are? Nope...i just get a team and kick that AV's rear end. Quit being a hater and play the game and have some fun...jeez.

I've yet to find an unsoloable <that a word?> AT.
That's not to say taking my fire controller into combat vs 2 white minions doesn't suck [censored] vs taking my blaster into combat vs 2 reds or whatever but... so I fight invincible on my blaster and heroic on my controller, until he gets his pets.
The problem I PERSONALLY (get it, MY oppinion and accepting that I could be wrong) think is that people expect the AT's to be the same.
Controllers suck balls in their lower levels, deal with it. If you want your controller to walk into a room and own it like a scrapper or tank then no, you ARE going to be dissapointed and feel the controller is gimped.
But look at the late game. Respec trial, level 26 illusion and kinetics controller. No tank, no healer, 2 blasters, 1 scrapper. We owned. I tanked/healed while they did the dirty work, and it worked. Throw me into that mix pre-PA/ST. I'd have had little to offer other than a few buffs and a nice, SHORT RANGE heal.
All powersets are soloable (at least in my experience and I'm a member of altaholics anonymous so believe me when I tell you i've got tons of at/powerset combos out there.) But DON'T expect your blaster to solo what a tank can, or a level 5 controller to solo what a level 5 blaster can. They can't. But that doesn't mean they can't solo, it just means you do not handle things the same. Handle that missions for what you are, blaster, tank, controller etc and you'll be ok.
