*sigh* The super secret attitude from marketing is just getting very old. I have been hyped up for this for so many months it's now gotten to be old news. Plus we have nothing new on the horizon to look forward too.

suggestion: allow folks to rate arcs one missh at a time.
the COMBINATION of ratings for each missh (whether averaged or not) determines he rating of the full arc. -

no offesense but we knew about this m.a. for like 6 months now..
what would be nice is to here whether anything "else" is coming with issue 14..
[/ QUOTE ]
Here's a hint. If they aren't promoting other features for Issue 14, there probably aren't any besides the usual minor power tweaks and QoL features, none of which are worth promoting, or would be covered by news sites.
If you expect I14 to have anything beyond the MA and the usual minor fixes, maybe a few new costume parts, you're most likely setting yourself up for disappointment.
[/ QUOTE ]
And CLEARLY haven't been paying attention, as they've been hinting for almost a month now that there WOULDN'T be anything else in Issue 14.
I thought everyone and their mother had figured that out by now.
Not as if its very secret. Especially after the massive amount of press issue 14 has been getting. -

All I can see is this, if merits dont become global and or we dont get some account based storage soon, alot of people are going to get burned out on this system. I understand they want people to play more but this is getting some what rediculous. This game heavily relys on the creation of alts to keep the game fresh, but when you get burned out on all the content and you have little reason to create alts because you dread how long its going to take to get some of the IOs, and playing multiple characters makes it take longer to get even one of the desired rewards. Never would I thought I would see the day when you get punished for making and playing alts.
[/ QUOTE ]
As opposed to getting punished for teaming, in terms of the regular drops you get?
Face it folks a bit of the CASUAL aspect died in this game when IOs were introduced.
Fortunately some of us don't think that's a totally bad thing.
I do agree that the market (for lower level IOs) needs help. -

What if someone gets a mad on for a given player, and goes in and 1 or 2 stars all his arcs out of hand? If he doesn't do that for every arc he comes across, just the arcs that have a specific global name attached to them, how can an architect avoid having his stuff sabotaged out of the Hall of Fame?
[/ QUOTE ]
One person probably isn't going to be able to affect the rating of an arc that much. You'd need to get a coalition of supergroups to do it or something.
[/ QUOTE ]
And rating is per account. -

We've added a TON more datamining hooks exclusively for Mission Architect as well, so we can easily see spikes in aberrant behavior. Spikes point us to exploits, which points us to log files, which reveal the identities of exploiters. So if you find a really big exploit in the system, I'd encourage you to PM me or another Dev and try to get your Bug Hunter badge, as the alternative is not pretty.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really realy really don't like the wording here. I wonder just what is considered an expliot. You called running KHTF once every three hours an expliot so I wondering what "exactly" is meant here by expliot?
[/ QUOTE ]
If your personal moral compass flip flops or even wavers a little while doing something in the game that is obvious to you is not intended behavior, it's probably an exploit.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is a pretty silly statement since the list of "not intended behavior" over the years has included 6-slotting Damage enhancements, soloing AVs, being able to do about 50% of the things Repeat Offenders do (along with alot of other folks), stacking Vengeance, PvP targeting macros, Whirlwind removing grounding, being able to click glowies while Phased, and a smattering of other things that really aren't things that would cause my "moral compass to flip flop" in a million years. Some of these have been changed, others have been ignored for issues upon issues before being changed, and still others are shrugged off as part of life.
That's a pretty crappy way to explain "if you find a really big exploit".
[/ QUOTE ]
Or said in a nicer way: Posi, you REALLY need to be clearer on this. Personally I had not known that someone n the dev team actually called KHTF once every three hours an exploit.
The devs list of what is and isn't exploits really does vary over time. -

I didn't read all of the thread, so I don't know if this has been answered, but I'm assuming we can save an unfinished arc, yes?
I.E. I'm building a super-awesome 5 mission arc, and I am currently creating the boss you need to defeat to beat the mission. Well, turns out I have to go. Can I save my first mission, what I have done to my second mission and the work I have done to the final boss?
[/ QUOTE ]
I would think it would have to save unfinished content - it just might not be playable until you finish it. Joe and Matt were saying on the interview that you could easily spend a lot of time working on a mission, writing text, etc. I hardly think they would expect a player to do all that work in one lump sum
[/ QUOTE ]
lol I would hope not. Or it would remind me of the days where folks spent hours trying to beat super mario brothers or other NES games, with NO SAVE FEATURE.

It only took three+ years of logic, whining, and arguments to get them to admit Empath was "broken".

Point is I don't see not being able to use MA to make farm maps for badges an issue or even important. AT ALL.

And I don't see the importance of people harping on PvP, or how merits/skeball tickets/whatever will "affect the market", or other things.
Different folks find different things important. To you it isn't, to me it is.
[/ QUOTE ]
Right, except we just had an issue with all mostly new badges and pvp. Not as if the devs are ignoring that segment.
Also I don't think its far fetched to expect the devs to not implement the tool to open up farming when they try not to encourage it. Notice i said try.

Right, meaning badges really are meaningless.
[/ QUOTE ]
They only have the meaning that YOU are attaching to them. Nothing more. They are there to show what you have beaten or where you have been.
YOU are attaching more meaning to them then they actually have.
[/ QUOTE ]
Apparently my sarcasm was missed. I should have added a smiley.
EDIT: And if you really believe that then it shouldn't matter whether you can use the MA to create farm missions for them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Fixing prior mistakes re: defeat badges, the "gotta catch them all" mindset for 1 villain and 1 hero, unlocking weapons for either side, and getting titles that wouldn't otherwise be attainable, those are the reasons why I'd like them to count.
I make no claim that a defeat badge is somehow "special". Beyond unlockables and titles, they only matter for two of my characters. If it's any char other than them, I just don't care whether I get them or not.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd RATHER they FIX those prior mistakes, not use MA as a palliative for them (for instance the absurdity of putting pvp bages in some villain accolades, when heroes don't have to).
Ofcourse you assume the devs see those things as mistakes.

This is a bit misleading. You can chose 2 powersets that include almost all powersets available to players, but you can mix-match them in ways not available to players. (Ex: Fire Blast + Invulnerability ).
Not as great of a bullet point, I know. We would love to expand this system further, but we cannot by release.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's alright, pohsyb. I'll just keep hoping we get access to Kheld powers eventually. But being able to mix and match from powersets that normall wouldn't go together will be fairly interesting in its own right and let us generate some truly unique foes.
Thanks for the answer!

Will the MA affect Defeat badges? If I make a mission with the Cabal, can a villian earn the defeat cabal badge?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, No.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry pohsyb, but you just killed any interest I had in the MA.
It was the perfect opportunity to fix several mistakes and oversights re: Defeat Badges, but now? Meh. No real interest in it. That's not to say I don't recognize and appreciate the fact that a LOT of work has went into it, but two steps forward, one back IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
If we are able to make maps just to get badges easily, what is the point of badges in the first place?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not getting into it again, but you still have to defeat <x> number for them. There's no difference between beating 1000 monkies on Monkey Island or defeating 1000 monkies in a MA map, you've still beaten 1000 monkies. The point of them is to show that you have beaten <x> number, the badge makes no distinction on how, when, why, or where you defeated them.

Look the MA should be a nice feature for the game. It will, unfortunately, suck the life out of anyone who decides to use it. As previously stated (paraphrased) 'want to run a (INSERT SF/TF)? Nah, I'm making a Mish.", "Oh, OK. I'm gonna log and play a game where there's actually people playing." Eventually, something will go wrong with the MA and it will be shelved for a year. By that time, a few (not many) will have left for something else and sadly, they will not come back.
BTW - I find it funny that, while we get to create our own missions, it doesn't belong to us. Remember to re-read your ToS.
Could the MA be the last big disappointment or the first big game saver?
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL just cause I'm not running the MA or I am, has no bearing on their being certain content that I wouldn't touch. EVER.
Sewer Trial, shard tfs in general, positron, i could go on.
there is a lot of dreck content out there or content that's been run to death.
Seeing as how the developers can never create enough story content as fast as folks can run it, i'm glad to see the MA. -

Am I reading this right that we will be able to play with people from other servers on either side?
That could solve a lot of the complaints from people on low pop serves who don't want to move.
3 story arcs per account seems low. I thought it was 3 per character.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's low if you don't mind infinite lag and the crashing of the servers.
And its 3 PUBLISHED arcs. You can have infinite amount of unpublished ones. -

I agree that it will be soemthing to play with.
The fear is that such a powerful tool results in the end of creative obligation on their part and a drying up of storytelling opportunities. We, the players will close doors on any potentially original story arc from NCNC.
They'll throw something out there and the crowd will cite a previously created arc that a player made and we'll shout in unison "seen it." And let me tell you those are some horrible words to see when your job is to keep things fresh in the story department.
You can't just give it all away. People will gorge themselves, and nothing will be left.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, let me put it this way. That very same problem is a problem I'll face as a potential Mission Architect author: potentially thousands of other players will be writing stories, and there is the real danger that after working on a story arc and publishing it, the player community will say "seen it."
It just means I have to work harder at being original. If I can deal, the professional writers at NC are probably not worried either. They have better tools, better control, and the benefit of being canonical. And they almost certainly get first crack at every new toy: new critters, new powersets, new maps, new mission technology. I wouldn't be worried if I were them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Do they? I got the impression from the articles I read about the MA from the various MMO sites that the tools they had to create their missions prior to I14, well, sucked, or at least were cumbersome. It doesn't sound like there's going to be any difference between the mission creation tools developers and players have to work with. Aside from developers being able to walk down the hall and say "Can you build me a custom map for this mission" to a co-worker, it read like the tools available will be the same.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except that the tools ARE different. From what I've read they have higher level dev stuff in there. I have a feeling that all the "debug" code in the screen shots won't be visible to us.
Also if you listen to the audio uber closely you will hear that they had some dev buttons/tools up on the demo that we the users, WON'T see. -

That was answered in the audio file, yes we can.
Although a follow up might be... can we have non-humanoid critters as enemies in the missions, like the Radio EB and the various turrets?

If I can just throw my two cents in here...not that anyone will hear it over the complaining, but...
I for one am looking forward to the MA. To me, it represents not a farming tool, or an XP generator, but an opportunity to tell stores, and where appropriate, share those stories with others. I enjoy writing stories in my spare time anyway, and nearly every character I have in this game is more than just a collection of AT's, IOs and badges, they are living, breathing representations of an idea, concept or persona given form. I desperately hope I'm not the only one who sees more than just inherent mechanical flaws, but a blank canvas on which to paint ideas for others to enjoy. Okay, maybe not everyone has the passion for telling stories that I do, but still, it has to be worth something that they're allowing players to do this at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, don't you know, that's a complete and utter waste of time to actually try to enjoy, write, or tell stories. *rolls eyes*
Yeah, I'm pretty sick of the attitude, as well. "Quit wasting time on this, we don't get badges/pvp/uber drops every mob/zomg there's not the big end bonus/etc."
So freaking what. If you (in general, not the poster I'm replying to) don't think it's worth it, *don't do it and quit your bellyaching.* Enjoy the issue where what you DO like is dealt with.
Christ on a freaking saltine.
[/ QUOTE ]
good to know I'm not insane.
I think we all often forget not every feature of every issue, or hell every issue, will be something ALL of us (the entire player base) will always like.
I know some folks that loved ALL of issue 13 and parts of it and none of it. I don't think its a bad thing to get a mix of that every issue.
Would be literally impossible for the devs to create an issue where EVERYONE of us like EVERY feature. -
[ QUOTE ]
Making it easier to farm won't create more farmers. It'll just move the farms.
That said, moving farms could be a bad thing, too. A huge farmer influx from Peregrine Island to Atlas Park (which appears to be one Architect location in the teaser screenshots) would be pretty scary.
[/ QUOTE ]
Right, and yet another reason to NOT INTENTIONALLY create another vehicle for farming.
