I'd say the root cause of the problem is that while City of Heroes may have started out as being about Comic Books specifically, it has grown into a much broader spectrum of themes over the years, including genres like sci-fi, fantasy, film noir and even anime. Even within comic book themes, you make fun of spiky shoulders and other "dark age" costume elements, when the fact of the matter is that some people still very much do like those themes. Dark age comics were popular for a reason, after all. It wasn't just because comic book readers lost their minds for a few years..
I mean, just in Marvel we have magical adventures (Dr. Strange, Thor and back in the day, Conan) we have sci-fi (Annihilation) we have all sort sof things inbetween.
COH isn't any more diverse than the MU, really. Certainly not than the DCU (which has stuff like Sandman in it) -
Deer-Dear aren't homonyms, they're homophones though.

"Hir/Sie" can be used in cases where this is not the case. "Sie picked up hir bag." If you wanted to use "They" you'd have to write around it, "They picked up their bag" would be clearly plural. -

Broadly I agree, but with a caveat that without a method for acquiring the title later in the characters career I think this one is unavoidable. At level ten I don't feel like an Arbiter or Operative, but I think at level 40+ you sure have a claim to it if you a solid Arachnos character. There isn't really a way of adding in titles later other than using badge titles that I am aware of, or am I missing a trick here.
My character certainly intends to be an Arbiter, but I could wait until he is more uber if that is an option without buying a rename, or is there a story reason I have missed for why a 'destined one' can never have one of those titles? -
He also has a girlfriend named Glenda whom he loves very much, and they enjoy talking long walks on the beach and watching the spectres together.

That's true, but that doesn't mean we should keep masculine as the default gender. Other languages are moving away from it too, as evidenced by Germany's StudentInnen.
Swedish has actually been moving in the opposite direction, dropping gendered constructions in favour of neutral ones. But then again, as mentioned, swedish has a neutral pronoun that can be used for persons in the first place.
EDIT: Also somewhat uniquely, "human" is a feminine noun in swedish. -

Yup but they are far from Marvel's most popular or featured enemy group. The big players are often one or a small team of supers. They are often wearing some super cool costume and have the "looks cool" appeal. We don't have too much of that here.
And the same is true in COH/V: We have our individual villains (Mangle, Shock Treatment, etc.) our Villains-with-bands-of-mooks thing (Vahzilok), and our big organizations. (Arachnos) -

To be sure, there are comic fans who play the game. No doubt. But the lion's share of people, in my observation, are mostly here because this is a straight-forward casual friendly game that's generic enough(and has a flexible enough costume editor) to accommodate their Night Elf Mohawk or character from the Matrix Online, Vampire the Masquerade or what have you. They couldn't care less about the 'super' in "the world's most popular superpowered MMO".
Heck, VTM is, if anything, clearly an adaptation of a horror setting to superhero tropes ("secret identities", etc.)
That's... Really silly. You're NEVER going to be able to cater to every character. Heck, even PNP occasionally has trouble with that, and they don't have to bother with animating it. Really, anyone who came in and expected to be able to create EVERY possible kind of character is just, quite frankly, stupid. This may well be the most pertinent question, actually. Most of the time, the pre-40 story arcs don't go much past stopping dangers to the city, like engineered viruses and so forth. When you're actually saving the world, there's usually a good explanation of why YOU are saving it. In some cases there just isn't time to call in anyone else, brief them and send them off when you're already on a roll. And in the case of the PCM, Agent Six's Worst Case Scenario document explains why the city can't call in the Freedom Phalanx and have them take care of it. As Spoony would say "It makes sense!"
But Roy Cooling specifically calls out a level 20 hero as soon as they hit level 20. Why? I'm not saying there can't be any reason, but I am saying that there SHOULD be at least some reason given. It doesn't have to be a good one, it doesn't have to be an elaborate one, but it should exist nevertheless. He could say "I asked for you specifically because I hear you're capable, but you're still also low-key, so we can do this without raising too publicity." I mean, it makes sense that you don't put the Statesman on the job because protesters might see it as a sign that heroes only care when they're affected, but a run-of-the-mill 20? They probably don't know you yet. But this has to be at least mentioned for it to count. -

Hm, my actual problem with it is that it's a great arc ruined by a horrible, horrible gang. I really, really don't like fighting through glue grenades and -35% ToHit debuffs. And those guys appear in the majority of missions. Including as multiple ambushes. I ran it with my widow to get the badges, and ghosted everything. When I fought through with my Scrapper, it put me in a very bad mood and I don't ever want to run it again.

Actually, there's a big exception with Battle Maiden, who is a native of Battle Earth but found herself in Praetoria. Battle Maiden's identity may be exactly that.
On the flipside, Valkyrie is native to Primal earth, and her spear is actually from Battle Earth too, otherwise, the two women share no known connection.
Btw. I still ship Scirocco/Ghost Widow.

While I appreciate the ability to go tell Recluse where to shove it, I actually rather like playing an Arachnos stooge. (Of course, my character is more along the lines of an office-drone in a business that just happens to involved murder and psychic mayhem)
