Hi. I just renewed my subscription today after about a month of downtime and I've been searching the forum boards and all over google for awhile today trying to figure out why I can't launch my client. After trying to launch the game through the old COH updater as I'm used to, I remembered the notice that I would have to start using the NCSoft launcher soon. Whatever. So I go to the NCSoft launcher and the launcher fails to update itself. I can't remember the dialogue that it sends me (and I can't see it now for reasons I'll explain in a moment), but it was Error 5, something about there were no updates for version yadda yadda, something about maybe a patch server being down and some nonsense (I doubt this was the case). I close that dialogue and the launcher finishes opening and shows me my game list and the usual. It shows that City of Heroes is installed, but is lit red. When I try to launch it, it fails with a message that says something about a value being too high or too low for int32 or something. From google searching, I saw that some Aion users had a similar problem, but I couldn't find a fix that worked. I tried replacing the Games.xml as suggested, but that didn't work. The best plan of action seemed to be to uninstall the launcher and re-download it, but this was also a problem. I'm usually browsing on google Chrome, and it couldn't access the download URL at all. I tried again (well, three or four times, actually) in Firefox, and it downloaded the installer, but when I tried to run it, it said that it was not a valid WIN32 application. The only other information I found was something about updating the .NET framework and something else with that same suggestion, but even if I knew what it was talking about, I don't immagine it would help me since the launcher no longer exists on my computer and I can't re-install it. I can't find any information about server maintenance or updates in progress. So I'm here, a bit annoyed and $25 (also bought the new booster pack) more broke than I already was.
Yes, I am running 32bit Windows Vista. I know it's everyone's first impulse to blame Vista for every problem in the world, but I would appreciate feedback that's actually useful. Thanks
