I really like the last one. The flames do seem to be trapped outside a sphere of force, which originates at the clap.
Perhaps the flames could be laid as a strip, extending to, say, 7 o'clock (with hero facing at 12 o'clock). Unless he was on fire, I don't quite see why the flame originates at him. If he was on fire, I'd expect the flames to be blasted more omnidirectionally. He must have stepped on a fire to get where he is now. More background flames might better associate fire with the terrain. -
Perhaps the flames within the hand clap 'sphere' could be wispy remains, or at least diminished. Right now they actually look brighter.

The effects, fire at the feet and the radiating beams, do not seem to be related. The fire is not within the beams, while the fire flames radiate from a point at his feet. Also the different colours involved. But since the flames don't seem to tie into the costume (he's not torch-like), I suspect the effects are meant to be related. Perhaps the flames should be just within the sphere in that case.

I... feel a bit pwned by this thread. Over many years I've seen lots of references to blue pencil, never knew it was so magical (just thought it was blue). Thank you everyone, for the explanation and the tips on integrating with photocopy and digital workflows! I hope to find one very soon.

That's an amazing piece! It tells the story so well. The colours are somehow unusual, yet perfect for bringing focus to the ice cream and depth to the scene. I really like how the intricacies of Captain Iron's costume are brought out, and make him look wrapped in iron. The kid probably deserved it

Smaller shot here, if it helps... I was trying to increase the contrast to bring out the details, but ended up preferring the natural grim tones of Independence Port. Still, you can never have too much pentacle torn.

Jet-pack zombie suggests one heck of a back-story, it's an awesome piece.
Having a personality described and imagining the kinds of adventures the hero gets involved can result in unusual situations to be drawn, but even then the creative juices can run dry. It can help to collaborate to produce an unusual scene that pseudo-logically brings together two characters with tales to tell. But then the commission cost goes up -
Airhead and Knitwit landed in Singapore to save the day! They were met by Pac Man. He's been lying low in Singapore since the 1980s, and the ghosts have been eating all the cherries.
I need to find a much better camera before these guys go into battle against the Singapore Merlion. Thank you Layla for putting so much work into both of them, and thanks Stone for coordinating. They're wonderful. Airhead even has cuffs -
Quote:I have to agree with CR. He should be kept special, especially since he has friends and family. The rest of us should have tried harder to draw instead of sulking about being neglected orphans and stuff. My friends and family here following along were all congratulating me on being the only one to have all the point options open to me (and were offering suggestions for how I should use them) and then suddenly I wasn't anymore.
It's frustrating.
Perhaps the rest of us should put all our points in a karma pool and use them to buy a parent. -
Thanks for updating us on the processes CH, it looks like two steps forward and one step back, but your perseverance should ultimately pay off. Meanwhile, you're doing something you love doing
I may someday be chasing one of my own projects through a related system over here, so it's great to get an inside view of the process, and also a reality check. Your odds of 1 in 14 are still better than for authors submitting unsolicited manuscripts... (0.5%?)
Cheers, air'd -
Looking very cool! From the mould it looks like he has some fantastic detail on his back.
You could have a whole army of him. Or inverted-colour nemeses. One for every tip mission. It would be like Warhammer CoH. -
I prefer to remove the icons to avoid clutter on the desktop.

Nope. I was wondering too.

There's so much goodness in this thread. The model sheets are fantastic, and they have encouraged me to move along with getting my own bad guys drawn and CoH'ed. The Stalk pictures are incredible, that's a lot of skill seemingly done so easily. Tovio has a very cool Japanese vibe. And I am even considering beach-going shots. So much here for the addict. Great finds!

Thanks Muse! I am also holding my breath for more Ferreter art, I love the concept and the colours. Thanks Caemgen - PsiBug was spot on describing Gambear1er's abstraction as 'candy'. And again you're welcome, Attache, it took two to marshmallow. Thanks Lord Goat, hopefully plenty more to come. And thanks PsiBug, Knitwit is developing well. although I struggle to find ways to foil bad guys using sewing. But she she'll find a way, she's smarter than me.
And now, to put the threads in this thread, here are Airhead and Knitwit by Layla!
These two have never appeared together before now. And what a wonderful way to do it! Something like the Airhead chew toy appeared in an early picture I got from Wakabee, inset above. The toy reappeared in the industrial style Airhead by Tim Kelly, lying at Airhead's foot (also inset). To actually have the yarn-doll coming my way is neat. Airhead's hair is by special request, and looks amazing.
For Knitwit, the craft connection is more obvious. Just see the Knitwit pose in Layla's thread. They look so cute together. Knitwit would probably want an Airhead toy to use as a voodoo doll.
Thanks Layla for making something I never knew I needed, and doing it so well, and thanks Stone Daemon for helping me get hooked! These toys are likely to appear more in future 2D art. -
These really are incredible. Knitwit even has a cameo with Dragynn! Knitwit looks a bit lethal. Dragynn is looking saintly with that "halo", but still manages to look stressed.
The hair on both Airhead and Knitwit are perfect, and the costumes are even more fun in the cloth. I am really looking forward to receiving them. -
Quote:Instinct. I looked at it, and thought it was you. But when you mentioned Liz, I realised I need to think about it to be sure.Originally Posted by Lousy DayAirhead and CR, what made you guys think #3 was me?
* Someone was drawing outside of their comfort zone. Waaaay outside. Yet it was VERY good! To attempt this so whole-heartedly, one would have to understand other styles and also want to do it technically very well. I imagine you have formal art training, which would require you to seriously attempt other styles. When you mentioned Liz, I wasn't completely sure of this. Another person I know with such a background could be Wassy.
* You made an early guess. It meant you hadn't disappeared, so otherwise you're very consistent. So probably a competitor.
* More than anything else, your last panel. Your Jack of Irons and War(dog)walker, and no doubt many pieces earlier, are infused with feelings of "awww shucks". Incarnate Junior made me feel that way in spades. Brilliant.
Darth and CR were perhaps channeling Bubbawheat. But Darth's fonts were complicated, unlike Bubbawheat's signature. Bubbawheat hasn't tried colouring that way yet that I've seen. The mask on CR's Carnie looked like a CR drawing, and the frames in general look painterly-over-pencil. Tartyrsause was a very tough one, aside from the goblin theme. The red eyes turning blue was probably the anonymity kicking in, although the horns remained. I regret not giving that piece some points. Liz was the hardest. It was the schedule. Liz had arrived with a serious and very succesful piece of Hero 1 art. I trusted she was here to stay, a wonderful thing. #5 I didn't get. My own - I posted a screenshot hack in a Caemgen thread just before voting closed, which made me worry a little that people would guess I do that sort of thing. Otherwise I sought to channel Bubbawheat which made me happy to see that might have worked. I don't really know what "channeling Bubbawheat" means, but "Look Ma" seemed culturally akin to "Bubba", and I imagined Bubba having the same problem as me of playing too many trials. The idea of a screenshot was because I didn't think I had much time. Despite that it took many hours. -
Ahhh!!!! I got all but Lady Judgement. #4, I cannot be blamed. I am so sorry LJ. I... cannot excuse. I will improve.
Hey wait, I was #4? Even worse, you let someone submit a screen shot? Someone who hacked into the Alfalfa Server and showed pre-released stuff? That's... okay. I'm drunk.
Bubblawheat, as always, you're doing a fantastic job here But I am missing your art. I know you can't score, but really I do miss your art.
Congratulations to Liz! And also LJ! And even to Lousy Day, who kicked my butt at the last minute. For all the right reasons. At least you didn't feature a wasp-waisted man in a pink outfit and a San Francisco moustache. -
The watery shot has a fantastic mood! Wish I could go Ultra.

Action scenes indeed! And the doughnut really screams to be in the picture.
Checking out the doughnut, I first imagined that my character Airhead and your character Gorm Diabhal would feel compelled to free the upside-down buckets that hold the doughnut balloon to the roof. They'd soon find themselves standing on the buckets, floating high over the shattered landscape of Faultline. Airhead would make them both balloon swords, and they'd swing around on suspended buckets, trying to hit each other.
Then I realised that's probably how there came to be a doughnut balloon in the Overland Dam at the far end of Faultline. Okay I admit I'm just being ridiculous. -
Boobs!! AAAAAAAa... oh. They're not mine.
Love the Juggertha piece! Everyone sure seems keen on these drinks, although a bit concerned that Sapphic Neko is not focussed on the drinks. There's so much personality bursting out of every one of those busts. And no, there's really no better way to say it. -
It's only hypocrisy if you say one thing and do another. As you point out, you've been wonderfully consistent I really like that.
