With all due respect, MadScientist, who died and made you and Zubenelgenubi the absolute authorities on time investment versus base advancement in CoH?
[/ QUOTE ]
With all due respect, SivverAgeFan, who died and gave you permission to construct crude straw man arguments? Please point to where either one of us claimed absolute authority.
[ QUOTE ]
But Zubenglenubi comes in here trolling when folks provide honest feedback from their perspective.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, I came in here and said that the issue of base cost had already been resolved and therefore it would be much more productive to focus on things that actually have a chance of being changed/improved, rather than fill the thread up with more and more incessant complaining about an issue that the devs have already closed the door on.
But of course, its always oh so very, very easy to simply accuse someone of trolling rather than use a bit of reading comprehension to try and actually get the point of what hes trying to say.

So give it a rest and stop trying to play cop.

So, what did we do when the game had no badges? Poor babies miss out on badges?? badges are only bragging rights, with the few exceptions being accolades that actually do something for your character before badges became completely useless ;-)

Speaking of...I've never read Web of Arachnos, though I'd love to- where might I find a copy?

Um...Ok...whatever happened to the rule where you cant be elected president more than twice? I am pretty sure they made this a rule at some point in time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, it's not a "rule," it's the 22nd amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. Something which does not apply to other parts of the world, as much as some ethnocentric Americans might otherwise believe.
...hell... the U.S. Constitution doesn't even seem to apply within the United states anymore... -

Unless you mean that a woman would put on her "Slither Bra" before going out on the town to get piss-drunk, safe and secure in the knowledge that nobody will try to molest her while she's passed out. -

If I had ever done anything like that to my players, they'd have reached over the table and wench-slapped me, and I'd have deserved it.

What is the point of adding more stuff no one but the l33t can afford? Medium/large bases are NOT fine? It cost way too much cash to build stuff, and paying RENT on top of that is ridiculous?

Not the thread for this.

Plain and simple, the largest flaw with bases and base construction: cost, cost, cost.
[/ QUOTE ]
Meh. This has been rehashed to death. The devs have drastically lowered the cost of getting small bases up and running. Medium/large bases appear to be just fine. This issue has been resolved. It would probably be better to discuss changes that actually have a chance of happening, instead of more and more incessant whining about cost. -
[ QUOTE ]
I have to agree.
Truthfully, The missions that come from contacts seem larger and/or more complex than those that come from the newspaper/police Radio. I often have only an hour or so, and I want to run paper missions so that I can finish the mission before I have to go. On the other hand, if I have several hours, I am far more interested in running a story arc because the missions seem to have greater salvage/rewards/exp for their completion, and potentially a fun story to read while flying on auto-pilot to the mission.
I also tend to avoid the "RU want 40 misteam?" idiots (No offense, Evil_Sprout) Because, frankly, I am an elitist, and I feel that if someone cannot respect my language, they don't respect anything else, including their teammates. I could care less about perfect grammar, lack of typos, etc. But THE WORD IS YOU! NOT U! You aren't on a cellphone so stop being so flipping lazy. It's not cool, it's not elite, it makes you look like a mentally deranged jackass.

Anyone who is too smug, clueless, conceited, or narcissistic to bother with common courtesy is almost certainly not going to run a decent team. If you cant be bothered with being polite, Im afraid I dont want to be bothered with your incompetent team leadership.
So it works out well for everyone. -

oh.....DEVS GIVE ME BACK THE KORA I NEVER HAD!!!!
[/ QUOTE ]
You know... I have a Kora Fruit mission door in Atlas Park.
For real. At one point I had the mission in my que, but a server reset or patch or something moved the door to Atlas. I used to use it for harvesting koras for use in Siren's Call back before insp storage was introduced.
I still have the mission, but I don't bother using it to harvest tier II inspirations. But I DO use it whenever some noob in Atlas asks if he can team with me for a PL.
"SURE bud! In fact, I have a mission right over here...!" -

[ QUOTE ]
Let's look at it another way...
How about being able to craft inspirations in addition to temp powers? I, for one, would definately be found assembling some XXL purples...
[/ QUOTE ]
Getting a new source of large insps would probably be good for the game. (Right now the only place to buy them is Sirens Call, right?) it's also be interesting to give them a crafting cost instead of just an Inf cost.
however, that still wouldn't do a thing to fix the uselessness of the recipes we currently have
I'm not opposed to Insps. I eat them like candy. I just don't see how changing the current enhancement powers into Insps would be an improvement.
[/ QUOTE ]
There used to be a way to do this. Farming Kora Fruit missions. And the devs nerfed the Kora down to lvl II inspirations when the inspiration storage stations were added into the game. So I'm guessing the devs don't want us to have easy access to these. -
[ QUOTE ]
what if doing a Mayhem/Safeguard unlocked the recipe on the Empowerment Station so you could re-craft those temp travel powers?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, for one thing, many people would stop taking travel powers. Just continuously re-create that flying backpack. -
[ QUOTE ]
they should maybe make temp powers craftable like say...temp travel powers? or maybe temporary acc/damage/defense/other boosts?

The mez resist from the Aegis unique is 20%.
[/ QUOTE ]
Permanently. Against all forms of mez. With the potential for set bonuses. As opposed to getting it versus just one mez type and having to refresh it every hour. The two are only vaguely equivalent, really..
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, that's a good point, of course. You have to buy a lot of empowerment station buffs to get across-the-board mez resistance like the unique Aegis IO I mentioned.
But that's not what you said originally. You said that the 18% resistance of the hold buff was useless. And I just pointed out that this is almost as good as what you can get from the Aegis IO, and that the two of them stack nicely.
But if I'm fighting spiders in RV, I'm really only concerned about their holds. The sleeps last just a fragment of a second on me, and the immobilizes are easily dealt with using teleport, if necessary. So I usually only take the hold buff in Im farming in RV.
So the buff in this case is useful in a specific situation. But in that situation, I find it to be very useful. YMMV.
Another example of this is the invisibility buff. The empowerment station buff doesn't give true invisibility, as strong as the power pool power, but it does stack with the unique stealth IO's. Having both together means you're almost completely invisible (without having to take two powers from the concealment pool). You can use this technique when in a specific mission that you know you want to sneak through, like the Thorn Tree mission in the STF. Again, rather situational, but within that specific situation, quite useful.
What Ive just said illustrates, I think, the two main points Im trying to get across.
(1) Many of the buffs are useful, but in specific situations. And when those situations come up, theyre nice to have available.
(2) The buffs stack with other powers/buffs/enhancements. If the devs increased the effectiveness of the empowerment station buffs, they risk creating abusive imbalances when the station buffs stack with others in the game. PvP is clearly the devs concern here.
Now having said all that, I agree that some of those empowerment station buffs could use some dev love. But then again, so would Pacing of the Turtle. -
[ QUOTE ]
The mez resists are a meagre 18% - enough to shorten a 30 second hold by about 5 seconds.
The elemental resists are 5%. That's not even worth mentioning.
The regen increase? A little better than half what you get from Health.
[/ QUOTE ]
The mez resist from the Aegis unique is 20%. This is one of the most sought after IO recipes in the game. Right after I slotted one of these in Zube, I noticed an immediate improvement. Adding another 18% to that gives a 38% improvement total. So a 10 second hold goes down to 6 seconds. Id call that useful. Any time I go farming spiders in RV I always grab the hold resist buff first.
Taking health gives a substantial improvement in a characters regen rate. So with the buff youre adding half again as much regen improvement as the substantial increase from health. Again, this is one I always grab when I go into RV.
I view these buffs just like most things in the game. Some are good, some are meh, and some are nearly useless. But this is no different from the power selections, is it? And how about all those stupid IO sets that nobody ever slots? -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Why do so many people think Empowerment Stations suck?
[/ QUOTE ]
Cost != Benefit
[/ QUOTE ]
Some of them give a noticeable benefit.
For example, the fly speed buff is very noticeable for me. (I have 6-slotted hover and use it all the time.) Also, the invisibility buff stacks with the stealth IO, giving nearly full invisibility if you have both turned on. I use this when I need to sneak around in missions like the Thorn Tree in the STF. -

...and also that shortly after arena went live there was a certain taunt bug? Yes I'm refering to the infamous Perma-Taunt bug where in which if a person was taunted during a match they were permanently taunted by that person for the rest of the match. This bug led to much griefing,

Did you know...
There was also an arena bug that caused the flamethrower power from dev/* blasters to do hideous DoT? Essentially, any dev/* blaster could 1-shot nearly anyone.
And yes, the unsportsmanlike little arena trolls took great advantage of it with their PL'ed PvP-only toons. -

HOW does a lvl 1 get wings without a vet reward?
[/ QUOTE ]
By someone handing them the recipe, salvage, and influence. Wings are not capes or auras - no level restriction.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, I was about to make a sarcstic response about a lvl 1 not being able to craft the recipe, but I did a quick check with my SG buds and learned that it actually is possible.
Guess I er... showed me. -
Personally, I didn't find the inspiration for the TF to be at all compelling.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? Are you kidding? Not only is it completely blatant, but its been done to death so much that Satan himself will probably refuse to show up for the real thing, whenever that may be. There is soooo much mythology out there that could have been used.
So Posi says that there wasnt a strong Norse theme in CoH, and therefore thats why they didnt go with Ragnarok. Thats exactly why they should have used Ragnarok! To bring in something other than yet another tired, worn-out Judeo-Christian reference. Hell, the old Japanese Tale of Gengi would have been a better (i.e. more original) choice.
Im just sayin -

[ QUOTE ]
...that Super Group base rent/upkeep didn't used to be determined by the size of the plot but as a percentage of the total amount of prestige the SG had earned? This led to some SGs effectively abandoning their bases because they couldn't earn the millions required to pay for them each month.
[/ QUOTE ]
Did you know...
Early on there was a bug in the base editing code that allowed an SG to get unlimited free prestige?
Essentially, you could place a room at zero cost and sell it back for a full refund of what it should have cost. The bug hit the live servers as part of a patch not long after bases (and CoV) were introduced. Once this was first noticed, several unscrupulous SGs very quickly racked up hundreds of millions of prestige points in just a few minutes.
When the devs realized what was happening they actually shut down the live servers immediately. The problem was considered so game-breaking that the person who first reported the bug was awarded the Bug Hunter Badge. (Currently only two or three players have ever received this badge.)
Eventually (several weeks later) the devs went through the database and identified (most of) the SGs which had exploited this bug. These SGs had most or all of their ill-gotten prestige stripped away. However, some of those SGs ended up stuck owing millions of prestige in rent, because the rent percentage was calculated on the hundreds of millions of points sunk into massive bases.
So what Blondeshell said above really only applied to cheaters.
