Quote:Y'know, everyone had been so polite up until now too...Ok the post happened in game today, as in this morning, the nighthunters are gathered around Schmitts bed after he was crushed by the robots leg, we have discussed what happened and because of such things as Erez'Zul at first attacking it, his little speech and of course other things, we have decided (and rightly so) that it wasnt the courts fault.
Now...The press will want to speak to a high profile hero like the priest considering it was about him and because of him...they will and he will tell them his suspicions, the court may even be asked to give a statement, you dont just instantly attack someone because it has a tattoo of your family crest, at the very least they will take the priests words into consideration AND the fact that the rogue isles belong to Lord recluse (who does kill children, why would you think he wouldnt?? ever been to the future where atlas is a smoking ruin? yeah....everyone dead).
Lord Recluse wouldnt let them enter in such a way, and basically all heroes are the governments tool, well...the ones who are registered anyway, so they follow the government about this sort of thing, watch the news and wait....thats all, it happened today, give it a couple of days to see what happens perhaps?
And techbot theres no way you can ignore this but still be in the plot, if game, bath, pious and CB decide to retcon it, fine, until then you either accept it or leave
Kindly don't tell me what I should and should not do with my RP. -
Quote:If it's enough to spread to an OOC that isnt the URP channel and get a lot of raised eyebrows and shaken heads, then I worry that's its gone far enough, is all I'm saying. You know had it been phrased like that, and not as demands from people who when I raised the idea of shared continuity and not agreeing with what they were doing with it, I was told not so politely to shove it, I'd of been a lot more amenable.
I've also been told to leave it in effect by others involved so...
And come on, you've been around GG how long now?
I kid, I kid. I'd just rather not see the entire OS plot go down the drain because of one thing, is all.
And the only person who I may tell to shove it isn't you, so ya know

Ahhh. Alpha is having a dense moment XD Hmn, that's not so bad, then. Not sure if I want to take fly or super jump, the problem being that fly makes burn a problem. Although I wouldnt be using fly in missions, so a slightly moot point...
Right, thanks for pointing out my Derp there guys XD *toddles back to Mids* -
Quote:It's not effecting anyone negatively if it just didn't happen. It's only a problem if it's left in, without effectively a complete re-write. Which might as well just be ret-conned and brought back at a later date.I know that Tech, but I don't want to piss on Bathorys or Games bonfire.
Besides aside from you and Randy, none of the other posters have said anything 'yet'.
I'm going to go spouting falacy like 'Your a bad RPer' or suchnot, because not only is it insulting but it's untrue. But please accept that this has just gone over the line that people are both comfortable with and willing to accept on a larger, game-world scale. -
Or, rather, the lack of.
I didn't notice before, but does Plasma Shield really give only Sleep and Hold protection? What about Stun? I know the set has a KB hole, but at least thats pluggable with IOs. Immobilise is a pain when you want to take fly and the only other option is Burn, but....seriously? No Stun protection?
I really want to give Firey Aura a try...but I also cannot be damned with a Scrapper that can't do it's job without getting mezzed halfway to hell and back. I mean, what the point? I love the look of the rest of the set, and Fire/Fire looks fantastic...but the gaping mez holes really turn me off it. -
Quote:Pious has made his stance quite clear; I.E. screw everyone else and throw a huff.As I said I'm willing to change what happened after input from Pious, Game and Bathory. Still waiting on two of them.
I get the feeling Game wont be overly happy, and I doubt Bath wants to face the Court getting curbstomped.
And, frankly, the players count as much as anyone. Without the people playing through the plot, you effectively don;'have a plot. Egg, chicken...y'know. -
-
Yeah. I liked the writing I did for Leon and the DeFeurards, but as far as im concerned, this is retcon territory. You can ache on as much as you like. I will continue with the rest of Open Season, because for the vast majority it's been fine, fun and interesting. But I'm skipping on this part.
-
Major problem;
People in-game who don't read the forums. Its...such a huge detach that on something this scale, there is no good way to handle it. It'll just lead to IC confusion and mess-up, OOC annoyance from both 'sides' and...it really doesn't seem worth it to me. *shrug* -
Designing an NPC?

In the words of The 'Cole Train';
"Bring it!" -
This is all getting really damn petty and silly now.
The be all and end all of the matter is; the event is simply implausible in the setting its in. There would be large repreccusions. As there is no reasonable way to portray this in-game and barely so even on the forums, I would seriously reccomend that the event gets retconned. Either that, or we'll be circling in this same arguement for ages. Or the majority of people will simply ignore it, and carry on with the more fun part of Open Season, which was easily explained and played. -
Quote:No, TheO. What we're saying is that, if this plays out as is now, then the Court will die. All of them. Hunted down and burned, staked, banished, culled, made extinct. There isn't any way short of god-moding the world that it could not happen. The US government would get everyone, and that would include the likes of MAGI and the Midnight Squad, to hunt down and terminate the Court. And bearing in mind the Midnighters banished what ammounts to a God (Rularuu). I dont think making a bunch of vampires stay dead would be as tricky as that musta been. So, by the looks of it, I can only see that FFM (mainly) is annoyed because he can't ignore it all. Whereas I've seen him ignore, as Shadowe said supposedly unignorable events, Rikti invasions, which by his claims he should always be rushing off to. (Not saying I've not done the same)
-
Quote:Uh, sorry, what? One Court member turned up, gave actual instructions to the robot that it obeyed, and would have gone back to the Isles...then Bathory said she wanted to see it cause havoc, and the order was given to attack again. Then Lucard showed up as well, and those two fought those who were trying to stop the robot. Then so be it. CB says he wrote this plot prepared for such consequences.
Both the NH and the Court helped STOP to child-killing robot by the way, while the world watched. So I don't see the Court being in trouble, praised maybe.
How, in any imagineable way, is that helping?! Or am I just going completely mad? -
Quote:This. Hell, he might even make a public face of 'aiding' (i.e. not killing on sight) the Heroes in killing off an udead menace, which he could then flap at the UN if he ever had the need.I have a feeling that, whilst Recluse wouldn't like that many heroes descending on the Isles, he either wouldn't have the resources to stop so many that aren't even targetting him, or would join the hunt and erase a menace.
Even he doesn't kill kids.
(Technically, yes, the Etoile Isles are UN recognised. How that works I have no idea XD)
Also, what Shadowe (The wise one!
) said. If you picture people tutting when they see the news and going "Ooo, thats bad. I hope the Heroes do something about that...Hmm, darling, where's my other slipper?" then that would likely be fine.
If on the other hand the reasonable response was "Christ! Dear, get the family. Yes, all of them. Yes, even Uncle Erwins lot. I dont care if we havent spoken to them for three months. *bring* Hello? Yes Erwin...You saw it too? Right. Get everyone, break open the gun cabinet, and meet you at City hall in, oo, twenty? Right."...
Yeah...then you've probably gone too far

Quote:I'm....so tempted to comment on this, but I can't find a way to phrase it that doesn't come across as...let's call it snarky.
Back on a more general level, I stand on the belief that in a shared world, roleplayers shouldn't always expect to have the option to ignore plots around them. If something is happening in Paragon City and your hero stumbled on it, don't moan about not having the choice to ignore it. Rikti War, Requiem War, Heroes for People, if your character can't reasonably ignore it, then don't. Play on, right?
To an extent, yes, trying to ignore everything that happens in a shared RP world would be daft. But this event really does force people to take part. You can't do something that pretty much every character around would find abominable and expect them to do nothing... Which means that if they do do nothing it's breaking the character. And the player has absolutely no say in the matter. Thats effectively a form of god-moding; they dont get a choice in how to react without completely being OOC for that char. -
I know it's coming back to the St Johns event again, but I would frankly make this reccomendation;
Retcon it. Yes, its clunky and horrible and ugly. But it's either that or major, unavoidable fallout for the Court. Is everyone who plays in it ok with that? The people who play with them? Because there is no realistic way this can be side-stepped.
Heck, it'd give Alpha the excuse to fire Reason at Castle Bathory. Because he could. Very easily.
Before people ask about that, he avoids using the railcannon on, say, a daily or even weekly basis for a number of reasons. OOC, its because I cannot be bothered to truck back to Warburg and stock up on the nukes I use as the In-Game power. IC, theres a long list.
1) Every round fired, and the energy needed to fire it, is incredibly expensive. That Alpha can get away with it at all is due to the fact that, hey, he's a criminal and a tech genius. He can leech money with comparitive ease.
2) Keeping cards close to the chest. For now, theres little more than dark rumour that annoying the Techbot can get you in a big heap of trouble. The sparse usage keeps people edgy and worried, their imagination doing more work than a high-cal shell could ever do.
3) Secrecy. Reason is a big investment and one of Alphas top pet projects. He keeps her running quiet and cloaked on the dark-side of the moon, in geo-stationary orbit. He does not want it advertised that she's there, or someone would go up and either try and commandeer it for irressonsible(er) use, or to destroy it. Both of which would require him hunting them down and killing them.
/tangent -
And even thats not true.
It's Brit's, aka Big Games, plot. RL seems to have swallowed him again, which is wholly understandable, s'happened to all of us. But since the start, which was pretty cool and a great concept, it's grown and grown and got really quite silly. I mean, the attack on Moth Cathedral was, in my opinion, pretty damn daft, really. I mean, you have two giant, building sized mechs attacking each other, for one thing. The only thing that comes close in-game is the Kronos Titan. Which we've now moved up to.
Less overt and more covert would be better. But, thats just one guys opinion. -
Quote:See, thats fairly believable, at least for me. The Family, amongst others, must have a ludicrous high intake and outgoing set of figures. Sure, the dons and consigliers and underbosses probably skip jail in the end, but the average mobsters must come and go like the breeze. Especially in the Isles.
I felt niggles at my conscience when Fear Trigger shot around 40 Family members and affiliates and burned down a bar/gambling den/brothel. It should have really been 20 or so, but with the amount of rounds fired in the story... yep, another regret, I gather them like cupcakes in RP!
Hell, Alpha tends to hunt down and terminate Malta bases when he's in a bad mood, just to prove the point that, yes, they are hidden. No, he doesn't care, and he will find them. And yes, he makes all those weapons himself
I know, right?!
just teasing Omy

Quote:I...I think I may treasure this moment. So yea, say what you want, but in my humble opinion somthing of this scale we shouldn't be doing, it changes the world too much. Of course it doesn't help that there's a fine line between big plot and world changing plot, to use Techs Arachnos invasion as an example, it was a concentrated bout of Arachnos activity that did some symbolic damage as was driven back.
That's belivable and doesn't shatter the balance of how things are in the world, heck the fact that the Freedom Phalanx spawns in Recluses Victory to try and fight helps in that matter :P
*Hangs up the Moment in a little laminated frame, with a sticker saying 'Omy approved'*
hehehe

Quote:Sorry CB, but gotta stop ya there. The problem is, we are playing a game of Super Heroes and Super Villains, a setting in which some one could quite conceivably steal the moon, or turn all the buildings in the city into monkeys that they control.
If you're saying people aren't allowed to do that, well you take the Super away from the Super Villain, reducing them to the level of costumed bank robbers, actually lower than that because Weather Wizards, weather control would be too much since it'd be affecting the climate.
As for why your character doesn't react IC when OOC you don't want to?
Well that's mainly your problem, though you could always ask why Superman's not in every DC comic, and go with that.
Saying 'thats mainly your problem just doesnt cut it here'. Reason? A lot of peoples characters would react to something as big as the St Johns event. OOC, though, they know the liklihood of getting a result from it, i.e. nothing. Unless people know there will be a result/fallout from the reprecussions, whats the point? Its forcing people into RP, and thats not a good thing.
As for stuff like the moon stealing, sure. They could try that. They'd also have to deal with the fact that, for example, other Villains or even Heroes might have something to say about it.
For example, they'd have to deal with a cloaked Orbital Railcannon hidden behind the dark side of the moon, going by the name of Reason. Alpha wouldn't take kindly to anyone going near his pet project. To name but one.
The 'turning buildings into monkeys' one is just plain pants-on-head retarded though, lets be honest here =P -
Give it a zone plot, field base (hospital, trainer, store, diff contact) and contacts?
/Signed. Very much so. No need to change the zone art, its perfect the way it is. Just give us something to DO there for pete sakes. -
I think if enough warning and planning is done, then slightly larger plots can be possible. Before I tried to kick off Operation Escalation, I did make sure to ask around...practically every day, really, for a good couple of weeks. And that was nearly a month or more before the thing even kicked off.
Well, in fact, if you count the attempt I was going to do until I14 kicked off and everyone got distracted, the thing was in the pipes for over a year.
My own time getting limited and RL stuff occuring, along with....communciations breakdown, lets call it, lead to it being more a caffuffle than it should have been. That, and RPvP only works when you have even numbers. The Heroes, facing a mass of VEATs, were understandably a little miffed by the end of it, so it wa probably best to call it a day when it did.
I think the line is, and always will be; Have consideration for other peoples chars and the implications of the plot, and a clear goal of what you want to happen so you can keep things on track, while trying not to railroad too much. -

Quote:Heh. We're all doomed, then because you yanks can't get cockney or Irish right to save ya livesI vaguely assume that all resistance are really cockney british.

Seriously, watch Hellsing Ultimate. The accents are hilarious. Still a great OVA, but Alexander Anderson is mean to be Irish, yet he sounds Scottish XD I lol'd -
Quote:Yeah, except they don't control every char in the game, do they?I got permission for the plot from Pious and Bathory before hand, saying it would be a pretty massive game changer.
Its not supposed to be something that can just be brushed under the carpet either, its an attempt to instigate a war.
Not blaming anyone, just saying it's a little too big, in a way. Someone will have to die for this, is all.
