    Superhero RPSGs

Are there still any active modern age RP heavy superhero SGs out there? Like the JLA or Avengers, pretty much. But without Bendis or James Robinson. >.>

    If so, praytell who?

It fits it better, in my opinion, and also helps people remember what classification of mental disorder it is: a dissociative disorder.
So noted. Learn something new every day.

Upon further review, I seem to have had my wires crossed on the meaning of psychotic. How about a homicidal lunatic? The particular persona is sort of like Drusilla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, only more prone to killing. And what I had forgotten to add in the line about Burning-Star is that another one of her personas is lawful evil in nature.

I don't know about Freedom, but I did move a bunch of leveled toons to other servers when they had free transfers. I'd play one of them if so many VEATS running around now hadn't gotten me in a mood for one of those.

    Haha. Yeah, I'm Shadow Scourge.
  5. And the even funner thing is that the other servers seem to be working fine.
  6. So it wasn't just me. And I just started a SF too. >.<

Can someone please feed the hamsters?

  9. It varies. I like to think my villains cover a wide variety of evil. Few of them will admit or consider themselves to be evil though. And there are lines my villains won't cross, yes. Two I can think of offhand.

Agonus is a would-be world dictator. He raised an army to take over the world and enforce his vision of a Utopia, and to him, the bulk of that army is comprised of beings that are little more than cannon fodder for his whims. I like to think he's a smooth talker able to get others to do what he wants, but he's more than willing to kill/torture to make a point if someone challenges or disobeys him.

Ahreman the Red/Aaron Tetherson is in it for power. Massacring a cult he started to appease a demon, Ahreman essentially willingly damned his own soul and (unwillingly) cursed his bloodline to get what he wanted.

Tim Tetherson is a misanthropic anarchist, and once he found out he could summon demons and get them to cause destruction, he was more than happy to do so.

Burning-Star has a psychotically insane person as a part of her MPD.

Steelbane is a futuristic AI that hates anything sentient and organic and is willing to do whatever it necessary to wipe out humanity.

Starscourge is an alien that feeds off of human bio-electricity. As such, he views humans as food and little else.

Nix/Johnny/Jane. Johnny and Jane are twin children ghosts who want to become the greatest serial killers in history. Nix is the demonthing that coerces them along.

Shadow Scourge sees no value in existence and wants to destroy everything, pretty much.

Iron Reckoner is one of the few characters I have who's in it for the money as long as it follows his own “noble evil” code of ethics.

    Arachnos MM Pool

An arachnos primary power pool for MM's; finally orderin those buggas around!

    Tier 1 Pet: 3 Spiderlings
    Tier 2 Pet: 2 Huntsman
    And in the spirit of trying to make things unique maybe this could be the first Powerpool that players can choose what their Tier 3 Pet is! But if not then one of the following;
Tier 3 Pet: 1 of eaither Arachnos Heavy Blaster, Calamity, or Arachnos Drone

LvL 18 Power: Originally I had thought of calling in a dropship of Wolf Spider Enforcers; similar to Gang War; but then because of gangwar I had to get crafty! Instead I present to you... Arachnos Bomb Run!! Title says it all. Long Recharge, AoE Heavy Damage.

    Feedback guys? Faults and Praises?

    ================================================

Down below i'll quote mr. Rangle M. Down says,
"Personally I'd like the Arachnos Drones, Spiderlings etc. as an alternate visual set for Robotics.

Maybe the Arachnos Soldiers for an alternate for Thugs or Mercs. "

This is a great idea and could be done with relative ease!!! But would making alternates for current pools be worth if not equally difficult as making a new power pool altogether? DISCUSS!!

    ================================
    Original Post: 5-31-2010
Update 1: 6-1-2010: Added Henchmen Custimization for current sets!!
Reminds me of when they first announced Patron Power Pools and I expected to Recluse to be one of the Patrons you could choose from.
  11. Lord Recluse- Dr. Doom in that he's a ruler and his hatred of Statesman, with a bit of Cobra Commander mixed in for the thematic army and his level of control (or lack thereof) over it.

Ghost Widow- Visually she resembles Silver Banshee, but that's about it.

    Mako- Killer Croc

Black Scorpion- It's a loose fit, but the closest I can think of would be Mac Gargan/Scorpion crossed with Iron Man villains like Titanium Man or the Crimson Dynamo.

Scirocco- I'm sure there's someone that matches his characterization, especially from the Patron arc, but I don't know offhand.

Statesman- Superman crossed with Captain America with a bit of Captain Marvel thrown in.

Positron- Nuke from Squadron Supreme crossed with Iron Man.

    Synapse- The Flash.

    Manticore- Batman crossed with Hawkeye.

    Dark Watcher- The Shadow.

Nemesis- Luthor mixed with Dr. Doom. If -anyone- in this game is a Mary Sue, it's Nemesis with the level of awe he's supposed to inspire. He's formidable in modern times with steampunk tech, he's supposed to have a hand in everything, is impossible to find, and has long reaching plans within plans within plans.
  12. Nice. The backpack/legs setup must be a pain to move around with though.
  13. I dusted off my level 36 Dark/Dark Brute. Respec'ed and experimenting with builds. Touch of Fear and Cloak of Fear stacking seems like it could be nifty.

That being said, because of it's relatively low resistances, its better paired with a high dps set like EM or DM, that way you kill things before they kill you. DM has Dark Consumption which really helps with End recovery, Touch of Fear, which stacks with Cloak of Fear allowing you to have bosses shaking like a jello pudding, and Soul Drain which provides a nice Dam/Acc buff.

On the other hand, EM has a few AoE's which when coupled with CoF make killing groups a lot quicker and easier.
By EM you mean Electric Melee? Even if it's not one of the top combos I do like the look of EleM/DA.
  14. Between all the melee ATs and options for offensive powers to match up with it, what's the best set-up to take advantage of what Dark Armor has to offer for PVE?

So let's say you defeat badguy A and... get... inspired for a technique to perform a better Cleaving Blow. So you research and meditate on the concept, but you're still a bit off from inhaling too many smoke grenades from earlier fights, so in a haze you determine that you need... a demonic threat report from a mage, a kinetic weapon from some soldier, and a pneumatic piston from some machine. But we're not done! So you get your salvage, and take it to a table to combine those elements into... what exactly? And that... thing... enables you to perform a better Cleaving Blow.

Yeah, some details of the game are better left glossed over from an RP standpoint.

I get the general idea though. I've played it that a magically powered character I was going to respec began researching new rituals to increase his own power, with the ritual being the respec.

According to this thread, my -merit- rewards for running SFs are skewed because of players speed running through TFs. And although we both go about it differently, we are ultimately playing the same game format with the same goal of how you slot your character.

    Really?!

You're saying this game isn't a competition, so there's no need to min/max and speed through content to get rewards at a faster pace?

Those other groups wouldn't set aside time for us, would mostly miss any appointment agreed upon, and most of them vanished off the face of the earth (one more or less told us, "Sorry, we're going to go play the new shiny and forget all the stuff we've done with you, bye!") leaving us back where we started.

So we pretty much keep our plots to ourselves these days. We venture out to the D to cause trouble every now and then, but the effort taken to try to coordinate things with other groups has just never seemed worth the cost.
To expand a bit more, I've been given all sorts of excuses as to why other RP SG/VGs don't want to RP with us.

    You're too organized.
    You have too many members.
You don't have enough high level members.
    You're not online enough.
You have too many high level members.
    You don't have enough players.
RPvP doesn't make any sense to us.
    You don't PvP.
    You don't textfight right.
    We're too busy with RL.
You want us to lose? To villains? Seriously?
Screw you guys and everything we've planned and done up to this point, we're going switch to CO like we wanted to do all along. Bai!

So we decided to stop trying to RP with outside groups. It's not worth the aggravation.

In my experience, I can get a full team and start a task force in about 5-10 minutes, including recruitment on public channels. Basically I only do task forces and I always speed. I usually have more people (non-globalfriends/non-SGmates) asking to join my team than I have spaces as well. The demand for fast TF/SFs is there in the general population and not as small as you've stated.

Just remember that whatever system you want to devise, like a defeat half, the speeder will always do it the fast way and then get out. To be honest, that's kind of the reason why I play. I like teasing apart the hard points of the game and working around it. The (merit) rewards don't even matter to me anymore. A change to a grading system reminds me of figure skating, would be complicated to (re)program and would confuse the casual player.
    ...
I can only suggest that you come over to Justice and take a peek at what we're doing. I'd be more than happy to describe our strategies and show you what we do. Then you can decide where best to optimize your TF/SFs and then you can decide if you want to skip parts or defeat all or try for the lowest time. I've never had anything to hide and you can always ask me what/why I do the things I do in a TF.

Sorry for the long response, I just don't want to come across as being glib.
So it's a bad idea for you to play closer to my or Eiko's slower style, but it's okay in the current system where your speeder style forces us to match how YOU play to get decent merit rewards? No. Try again.
  22. It depends. For example...

    I don't care about soft-capping.
    I haven't seen Avatar.
I won't pay money to watch Kick-***.

    But
I was there in AE during the "early boom." >.>
Iron Man is my favorite superhero movie.
And The Dark Knight is probably my second favorite.

I will be honest, I am not a fan of Forums, I don't like having to reference outside of the game to get information, but there are plenty of unscheduled things that groups I have been in have dealt with, and because of those it makes it harder to get in, sinc eyou can't try to 'reserve' a spot. The Millennium Paladins did everything from the forums. If it wasn't scheduled, it was just, like, a fun IC/OOC mission run. It was easier, unfortunately I could barely get involved with their RP sessions due to, well, I had a wednesday club and that's when they had them at time time. (Not to self: try to apply with them again they were amazing.)
    ...
    Before I get too carried away, exactly what level of RP are you looking for? Just to give a few general examples;

-Light RP groups dabble with IC commentary on missions and the like, but that's about it.

-Medium RP groups interact IC, but tend to leave story levels at doing missions or done-in-one-night impromptu type things.

-Heavy RP groups interact IC the most, and usually have their own ongoing RP storylines that take upwards of weeks or even months to resolve. As such, yes, there is continuity in these groups, and if you're not around during prime activity and prefer to rely on information available in the game, you'll get lost. However, most RP groups use forums to keep track of what they've done, what they're doing, and what they plan to do. In my limited experience*, a lot of players don't like spending in-game time discussing OOC matters in-depth. But when you need to coordinate who's going to be online when, for how long, what's happened before, and the general plan of what's going to happen, it reeeaaally helps if that information is listed somewhere other than players heads. That's part of the point of forums, pop on there in your off time to catch up or bring others up to speed, so you can spend your time logged in to, y'know, play the game.

*I started and currently co-lead The Supreme Society, a heavy RP VG with a classic comic book supervillain take over the world theme.
