  1. What I'm doing with the Atlas contacts, as can be seen with Azuria, is taking the group they focus on most and actually making the arc revolve around them.

I also plan to have them introduce contacts who actually further that first story, while still providing braches to it. For example, a contact in Kings will focus more on the Skulls and who they are linked to, while one in Perez () will delve more into the Hellions and just how they aquire the artefacts that help them gain power. And then moving further up the chain, while still leaving branches open.

Edit: Rick Davies arc 'Grinding Gears' has been drafted out, I just need to get into AE later tonight and put it together. Again, I would kill for the Devs mission making tools; theres a few really neat tricks I could pull if I wasn't limited by the damn AE mechanics... Just being able to make custom mobs using the skin of NPCs would make life a hell of a lot easier...

See: a lot of the old COH content.

EDIT: Your AE work shames the devs even more for not revamping more of older COH.

Now that they got incarnates up and running (well soon anyway) I'd hope we have more issue splits: new content for mid-range, revamping older low to mid range stuff, and incarnate stuff.

I DON'T want to hear any longer from ANYONE that this can't be done for each issue, cause I19 proves that they can.
Oh yeah. ITF is a very well done TF, because it's fun, not a pushover, and gives decent rewards for what it makes you do. I do have issue with the Valley of Lag, which Im still pretty damn certain could be cured by simply removing some of the damn unneccesary mobs and capes off LTs and Minion in general (only mob in game that has them) but hey, thats life.

And much obliged on the AE comment. Now that I've got the bug, im determined to re-write the lowbie content because, really, there are SO many stories that can be told all throughout the City. And I've always been a story teller. Time for me to get to work

Edit: Looking at the starting contacts....they really are terrible. Theres no plot, no cohesion...just a string of crappy, one of missions.
Gonna get rid of that, for starters. Rick Davies is next up on my hit list.
  3. Man....Damsel's got one hell of a foul mouth on her for someone married to a priest...

Also, Nightwalker framed by lightning and ash...damn, I wish I could draw that with any level of skill

    And....that STILL makes no sense!

Energy is never 'Just blue' and neg energy is never 'Just dark purple with black bits'. Thats like saying every single human being has to be pink with brown hair or brown with black hair. NO variation.

And that doesn't even get onto the fact that, hey, maybe some kheldians purposefully change their colours? Heck, Horus in the comics wasn't blue; he was a kinda luminous green colour. And Requiem had red energy powers.

I have yet to see one single valid arguement for lack of customisation on Kheldians...and there IS none for VEATs. Let them use other guns and claws, for heavens sakes! I mean, I wouldnt mind if any of the Arachnos guns actually had a bayonet....yet none of them do!
  5. The coiling mass of shadow twitched, turning as faintly glowing eyes narrowed and looked around.
Prescence...where was it? Underground, with all this chaos, was begginning to cloud his senses.

Nightwalker slid back out of the tunnel like a dark cloud, hovering upwards until he seemed to simply fade into the apocalyptic sky. Ebon eyes narrowed further as he observed the sky above the exploding volcano, ash and lightning becoming one swirling mass.
    "Fascinating...What power..."

    Nightwalker waited, attention partially on the display in the sky, the rest searching for the prescence of his target;

That hadn't stopped her returning Leon's smiles however. Despite how serious the situation was she couldn't help but find some fun and excitement in the whole situation. Squeezing Leon's hand she finally spoke up "...if all of this might not be safe for you... is there anything I can do to help?"
"Just look after yourself, m'dear," Leon replied with a smile and a comforting return of the squeeze. "I'd be much happier knowing your in one piece than worrying about us, hmm? Vampires are stubborn and powerful, after all-"
"I thought you always said it was stupid, Dad," Marira interjected with an arched eyebrow.
"Stubborn, stupid, we all have our moments," Leon waved a hand airily, smirking faintly. "Anyway...I suggest we get a move on, if we're going to actually find little miss troublemaker at some point today."

Oh, for sure. I never questioned that. But if thats an arguement against revamped content, then we should simply never bother to have ANY new content for this game, at all, EVER, because speed runners and such will just blast through and then start whining. Again. That arguement doesnt hold true for 'New Shinies' OR Revamp.

Ye gods! Im getting sick of having to type that phrase! Trial players, important people who are potential new subscribers and players, will NOT get the new content! They will get the old shite left behind in Paragon, or the less shite that is in Mercy.

Non-expansion players will also get this content, and NONE of the new shinies that are Praetoria. Im no arguing that Praetoria is well done. It is! Incredibly so! But why does it seem practically forbidden that that quality and tech will EVER be seen retroactively?

Or because, y'know, endless waves of Destroyers at even level and +1 can really hurt and get boring? Or that certain ATs find certain mobs like Syndicate too easy? There are MANY more reasons for wanting a difficulty contact that 'I want to speed run this!'

Yeah, well...that sort of stuff barely bears commenting on. Thats not anything to do with mission quality or mechanics.

    Quote:
It's not the case for YOU, sure, but that doesn't change the other players who want to get to the "real" game post level 22 as fast as possible. For them, the best low level content would be big Looney Toonsian neon signs to the Sewers, with pitstops every so often inside to level up. Sorta like the farms that killed AE.

Making Stamina inherent -should- help, but well, we'll see.

Hell, I've come across far too many players who ***** about the lack of content in the game because they legitimately don't know there are contacts beyond the newspaper or radio. You could have the best written arcs EVAR but so many people want to play this game with as little reading as possible that it won't matter.
So, penalise those of us who do care and do give a damn for the sake of spiting Farmers and speedlevelers. Yes, of course, that makes perfect sense!

Sorry, but I've been fighting this corner for too long to not reject that kinda stuff. I also don't buy into

being true at all. Arcs that are well written, dev and Player alike, get played more. Wether they give 'leet rewards' or not doesnt matter; what matters is that they are fun.
  11. First arc is done;

    Dicing with Devils and Death
    Arc ID: 466108
    Length: 5 missions
    Level range: 1-14

I would advise a team for the last two missions, although hopefully it will stil be soloable. Needless to say, the last mission is a fight against a character who is criminally underused in game...as is the second mission, actually.

    Oh, and devs?
Put the Girlfriends from Hell in the AE, will you?! Kay thanks bai!

At least you got it right second time, Demon Fleshling!

And yeah, Inherent fitness will help a lot. But I plan on making as many of the old junk 'not-arcs' (they have no plot, no link, no fun) shiny again, and then pushing for them or similar stuff to be put in to replace the old crap. No one wants crap in a game, or shouldnt at any rate.
  18. Thing is, giving you the 'Stay a Villain' or 'Go Rogue' choice in the mission would, in my opinion, work a lot better than the 'Do all this and then dont change anyway' thing we have at the moment.

For example, one of the Rogue missions?

    SPOILERS!!!!

I got asked to commandeer a Zeus Titan and blow stuff up with it. The 'Villain Choice' instead of the Rogue.
How much cooler would it be that, instead of automatically going 'Nah, screw you!' and then at the end going 'Oh, nevermind, im still a Villain', you go 'Actually...yeah, t'hell with the morals, that sounds like FUN!' and getting a temp power that turned you into a Titan with all its powers for the remainder of that mission.

    Coding intensive? Yes.
    Worth it?
    Giggity giggity, awwwwww yeeeah!
  19. Have finished the 'Dicing with Devils and Death' arc in AE, took about half a day total? If a schmuck like me can do something like that in half a day, theres not really any excuse for the old stuff being sat the way it is for this long.

And before people say 'Oh, it has to be Dev quality though!' let me finish testing and tweaking it and then post the ID here. Then judge wether the Cryptic built junk thats still in has has any right to be there.
  20. Right, I've decided to actually start work on re-writing ALL of the low level Hero content. Starting on Atlas, moving across to Galaxy, then onto Kings. Maybe beyond.
Honestly, it's really not that hard.

    Here's an example, replacing Azuria's random missions with a mini-arc for Magic Origin characters, introducing them to the gang turf war between the Hellions and Skulls;

    Atlas Park

    New Contact Arcs

    Azuria

    Dicing with Devils and Death
    Level 1-6 Arc

    Quote:
Mission 1 – Take down Hellion Rave on the Promenade

“The Hellions are an ever present problem in Atlas Park, Character. While we may be thankful that they are some of the only ones to slip past the security this far into the City, that does not make them any less of a problem for the citizens here.
I just received a report from the PPD that a gang of them are holding a rave somewhere on the Promenade. I would like you to go there and put a stop to it. Not only will this serve as a reminder to the young punks that we are keeping a constant eye on them, but it will also be a healthy test of your abilities. A trial by fire, if you’ll pardon the pun.”

When you enter the warehouse, you find that the rave has already been broken up; people are fleeing as you enter, and the whole place is already on fire. Shouting and gunfire from further in suggests that something is up. As you go further in, you come across groups of wounded or grumbling Hellions, all still itching for a fight.
One ganger is too wounded to put up a fight, although that doesn’t stop him holding you in contempt. What information you can coax from him, however, indicates that they aren’t the only combatants here.

The final encounter is a pitched battle (Non damage) between the Damned who was heading the Rave, Scorch, and a Skulls Bone Daddy, Tombstone, whos heavily armed compatriots have been busy ruining the Hellions party. You step in and smack a few heads, taking both of them into custody. Something Scorch tries to shout as you floor him gives you a clue to look around. Sure enough, in the same room, is a stolen artefact, which you take back to Azuria.

“Hmn...A Damned, in Atlas? That is not good at all. However, what troubles me even more is the presence of the Skulls. They’ve been mostly confined to Kings Row and Perez Park. Their appearance at the rave suggests that either they were after the trinket the Hellions had, or they were attempting to make a move into Atlas once more. And neither situation is desirable for us.”
    Quote:
Mission 2 – Investigate Disturbance near Hyperion Way

“I’ve just received another call from the PPD, Character. They’ve had multiple reports of a disturbance over by Hyperion Way, and some reports of gunfire and explosions. I’ve tried scrying into the area...but something is blocking me. Whatever it is, I need you to go and investigate it. I requested some support from Longbow on this one, so you won’t be going in alone.”

Once more the warehouse is on fire when you get here, and the fight seems a lot more two-sided. There are mobs of both Skulls and Hellions spread about, pitched battles between groups and hostile patrols that will attack anything that isn’t in their gang on sight.
Two Longbow Agents are held captive, one by Skulls intent on adding the captives head to their trophy racks, and one by Hellions who are just about ready to carve them up for whatever demons will pay attention to them.

Your first target of opportunity is the Bone Daddy in charge of the Raid, Skelter. Taking him down will, after one form of coercion or another, reveal just what the Skulls were after; an artefact that hides its user from scrying and various detection methods. Such an artefact has allowed the Hellions to continue to move into Atlas Park despite the security, and would in turn allow the Skulls to do the exact same thing if they could claim it.
First point of order after that is to secure the artefact. Of course, the Hellions aren’t too willing to give it up, and their boss, Burnscar, jumps you before you can get the thing to safety. Of course as a Hero of the city its your civic duty to beat seven different kinds of hell out of him. Floor him and let the Longbow reinforcements take care of the punks left over.

“I see now...The Oculus Obscurus, or Unseeing Eye. It went missing some time ago; trust the Hellions to be the ones to have it. Thank you, Character. I’ll make sure this goes into the Vault here for safe keeping.
The Skulls plans do not fill me with hope, however. Moving into Atlas is definitely their aim if they were after the Obscurus. We’ll need to find a way to make it quite clear to them that their attention here is not welcome. And I think I have just the plan for it...”
    Quote:
Mission 3 – Set up the Skulls in Atlas

“You should probably know a bit more about those we are dealing with, Character. The Hellions and Skulls have been waging a gang turf war pretty much since they first met. The Skulls are pusher of a drug you may well have heard of called Superadine. It’s Superadine that is the cause of the gang known as ‘The Trolls. It is dangerous, and so are those that sell it.
The Hellions are demon worshipers and anarchists, while the Skulls wield black magics that even I don’t know the source of. Both groups work on a strength based system of promotion, as many such gangs do; the one with the most power leads. We can, however, turn that to our advantage here.

The Skulls recently stole a minor artefact in Kings Row. It’s little more than a bauble, but they don’t know that. While we have recovered it, I think it may be worth a small sacrifice to...how shall I say...unsettle the Skulls stability a little? I need you to take the artefact, and plant it in a warehouse the Skulls seem to have taken over in Downside. It’s rough over there, and harder to keep tabs. The good news is that, when found with an artefact that was supposed to be recovered by Heroes, the Skulls leaders will start to question the men they’ve sent into Atlas. The gangers in turn will resent being wrongly accused – likely starting a power struggle. While not one hundred percent ideal, it will force the Skulls to divert resources, and hopefully allow us to contain their encroachment on Atlas.”

This mission is much more subtle than the others. While you can wade in, floor everyone and plant the artefact, you can just as easily sneak past and plant it, leaving no one the wiser. In fact, if you defeat the patrols, your more than likely to trigger reinforcements, as gangers run in after being attracted by shouting and gunfire. Either way, plant the Artefact, and skedaddle. Leaving the Atlas Skulls in a spot of bother.

“Excellent work, Character! Word on the grapevine is that the Atlas Skulls cell is already in trouble. Apparently their superiors are far from amused at the artefact being in their hands. Even if they do find out it’s pretty harmless, the damage has already been done. We’re hopefully on our way to seeing a stop put to this mess. Well done.”
    Quote:
    Mission 4 – Stop 3K Kelvin!

“Character, we’ve got a situation here! Despite the Skulls plans to move into Atlas being in disarray, the Hellions don’t know that yet. As far as their concerned, the Skulls are still going ahead with their plans, and the increased activity must just looks like a more concentrated take over! They’ve really pulled the gloves off on this one; they’ve sent in 3K Kelvin.
Kelvin isn’t the highest up the Hellions food chain, but he is one of their top enforcers. The gang leaders send him in like a sort of living weapon to bring order and cause havoc when something gets in their way. And we just painted a big problem target for them.
Fortunately in somewhere like Atlas Kelvin can’t go unnoticed for long, and I have a lead here on his current location. I need you to go there, and bring him down before he can hurt anyone; the Skulls may be criminals too, but no one deserves being charred to cinders in the middle of a gang war. At least by taking them in to the Zig there’s some hope they may reform. Please, Stop 3K Kelvin, Character!”

A fairly straight forward mission; head in, find Kelvin, and take him down. 3K Kelvin is a named Hellion EB (scaling down to Boss level), so he’s a tough fight, but not insurmountable. He may need some level scaling, but a competent team should be able to thrash him and send him packing in short order.

“You have my thanks, Character. Kelvin is by no means predictable, and it would have been just as likely that innocents would have been targeted in lieu of Skulls. Hopefully this should send the Hellions a clear message; Atlas Park does not welcome them and their arson!”
    Quote:
Finale – Mission 5 – Defeat ‘Marrowsnap’ Petrovic!

“The Skulls must have been really serious in their attempt on Atlas Park...they’ve come to put their house in order. And by ‘they’ I mean the Skulls founders; The Petrovic Brothers! I don’t even know what their real first names are anymore, but they go by the identities ‘Marrow Drinker and Marrowsnap’ these days.
It’s Marrowsnap who’s come to knock heads together and try and salvage their operations here. It seems he’s set up temporary base in Downside before making one final push on the Hellions of Atlas. I tell you now, Character; that cannot happen.

Marrowsnap won’t care who gets caught in the crossfire between his Skulls and the Hellions. Innocent lives are on the line here. I need you to go in there, and stop him cold. I have got some information that will help you, though; Marrowsnap is currently in possession of three artefacts. They are most likely guarded by some of his lieutenants and with good reason. He’s using these black magic idols to boost his power. You don’t have to disable these artefacts...but it will make apprehending him a lot easier.
One way or another, Character, Marrowsnap cannot be allowed his foothold in Atlas. Take him down!”

The final boss fight is against an always EB class Marrowsnap, a custom powered and different looking Skulls Boss than the current, somewhat uninspiring model in game (which is just a named Bone Daddy). He’s the bigger of the two Petrovic brothers, and weighs in with Dark Melee and Dark Armour abilities. Nothing too powerful, though; An attack chain of basic attacks and maybe an AoE, along with a blast. He is inherently mez resistant, but it’s his shields that are reliant on the trigger mechanism.
The three glowies that can be found around the map are purely optional. But taking down each one will knock out one of his shields. He’ll have some in-built resistance to all damage as an EB, and each layer of Shield will grant him additional resistances. Taking out all three may take more time, but it also makes him an easier fight, especially solo. Each artefact is guarded by a boss, who scales as normal.

    Quote:
    Marrowsnap Dialogue;

Before Combat: “I don’t care wether it was Longbow, Capes, or Deaths own anti-idiot stick that did it! WE are taking Atlas Park over!”

Combat Start: “And we start NOW! I’m gonna enjoy this, Character!”

75% Health: “Me and my brother? We carve up jerks like you for breakfast! Your going DOWN!”

50% Health: “You think you can stop the Skulls? The Hellions ain’t gonna hold onto Atlas forever!”

25% Health: “Gwuah! This...this isn’t gonna end like this! I’ll take your damn head!”

Defeat: “This...isn’t *cough* over...Character. Just you wait..!”
At the end of the fight, Marrowsnap teleports away in a choking cloud of dark smoke. But not without leaving behind a boot and one of his trouser pockets, in which you find a pair of jet black dice with white spots.

“You did it, Character! Marrowsnap might have got away, but the state of his escape makes it pretty clear he’ll be licking the bruises you gave him for quite some time to come. I- what’s this?”

*You show Azuria the dice that Marrowsnap dropped.*

“’Petrovic’s Knucklebones’... I’ve heard stories. Apparently the Petrovics carved up their own family to use in their magic. Those skull masks they wear are, if rumour is true, their own parents. Sick and depraved, whichever way you look at it, if you ask me. As for these dice...I don’t even want to know how they made them. Still, they’re partially enchanted. I don’t know what it’s worth, Character, but I’d hold onto them. Even if it’s only as a painful reminder for Marrowsnap that he lost. Just remember that, while some criminals are just misunderstood, some of them are the real article. Genuine cold hearted killers. Black Magic like theirs wouldn’t answer to any other kind of person...
Still. Well done. And thank you.”

-is also untrue. I don't do the Sewers because its fast EXP, although it is pretty fast as a side effect. I do it for the simple reason that I cannot be effed to go and do the stupid, brain draining tasks that the starter contacts send me on. Now go talk to the Security Chief in Kings who will...make you kill 10 Skulls.

    /Repeated violent facedesking

That is NOT how you design a low level game. It may have been good enough for Jack 'Special Vision' Emmert, but it simply does not cut it when held up to the stuff that has been produced recently. No matter what your counter arguement may be, it will fail in the face of just how bad the old stuff is.
  22. Why not just make Atlas/galaxy content not suck? That way people wouldn't see the Sewers as the best way to level early on. Personally, I love the feel of the Sewers; a rookie team hurling itself into the under dark to bring multi-pain justice to the mugs down there. Heck, if anything it should be considered its own hazard zone, have arcs down there, a 'forward base' and hospital/trainer.

Personally, any zone that doesnt have content that allows it to stand up on its own should get some before ANY new zones are made. End of.
  23. Re-build the pre-Villains game from the ground up.

I'm not joking. The old Cryptic built content is really damn dire, and showing its age.
I'm gonna be very interested to see what happens when Cataclysm comes out, and just how opinions shift...
