I don't care if they get even moar damage, if I have some chance to see them. The routine of AS/run like a girl gets old fast. I don't die but can only kill them if they are n00bs.

Yes, and placate automatically puts your whole team in the old moment of glory and casts psychic shockwave on everyone, and when you res at the hospital Envoy spawns in the lobby and you can't exit thru the front doors until you kill him.

Villains will no longer be capable of winning fights. When a hero would normally be defeated, a new power is auto-activated by the hero that defeats the villain, heals the hero to full, and forces the villain to say "Darn you *insertplayerhere*! I'll get you next time! NEXT TIIIIIIIME!".

ALso, all cool-looking costume pieces will be disabled, as will all colors but pink, yellow, green, white, and black, and all costumes that do not involve tights, animals, or a ridiculous multicolored business-suit.

And if you pick the multicolored business suit you have no choice but to take a rainbow colored afro with it.

Please use this thread to discuss the below announcement:

NCsoft NorCal is proud to announce a new feature for the City of Heroes® and City of Villains® games; that of Visual Sounds. Visual Sounds are based on the comic book staple of onomatopoeia, or the use of a word to replace a sound. Classic comic book examples are “Pow” and “Ka-Boom!” in colorful bubbles while heroes and villains are slugging it out. City of Heroes takes a huge stride forward by replacing simple sounds with the exciting new visual medium of Visual Sounds.

    Umm...

This shouldn't be a joke. You guys should actually do this, sans taking out the actual sounds.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh noes, look who joined the party.
You can't seriously be on the side of people who want this? Ugggh...

    That's it!

I am SOOOO sick of the devs ruining this game!!!1!

First of all, this absolutely destroys my roleplaying of my characters. I like to pretend that all of my characters have completely silent attacks; that's why I built my new computer with no speakers or headphones, geniuses!

Secondly, this is terrible for all non-english speaking players! It's bad enough trying to translate the regular stuff, but what are the chances that my English to Latvian dictionary is actually going to have "Freem" and "Biff."

Why do the devs hate us?!?!

This kind of careless corporate attitude is exactly the reason that I'm signing up to be a Virgle Pioneer. To heck with quitting and going to CO; I'm leaving all you bastids behind and starting fresh. We're going to have our own Superhero MMO! With blackjack! And hookers!

In fact, forget about the blackjack and the MMO.

It's not even 7am here and I've already been gotten TWICE on April Fools Day.

The problem is "as all the sounds in the game are being removed to make room on the players’ hard drives for the new Visual Sound graphics." I like my machineguns, claws, weapons, fireblasts sounds. I do like tue grapic sounds, but if u take away all the sounds the gameplay will become quite stupid just because "music map + visual sounds" is way too boring.
And sorry i think this idea of "taking all the sounds" was "we wont give any choice to the player, HE WILL HAVE TO USE IT" sorry guys if the Devs remove all the sounds i wont play the game, its too stupid even for human normal levels of stupidity.

I heard everyone who played a /regen to 50 eventually died of cancer. True story.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's because Chuck Norris hates wusses. And since /regen is the wussiest of scrappers, and arguably of blasters (or was it defenders?), Chuck hates /regen even more.

Since single-handedly beating cancer (I hear he actually had BOTH tied behind his back), Chuck was given the power of cancer, to weed out the weak, pathetic, and wussy!

Thus, since Chuck hates wusses, and /regen is probably the wussiest wuss ever, Chuck gives all /regen players cancer, sooner or later (when he's not too busy roundhouse kicking stuff).

Unless the repeatable missions are for the higher end of The Hollows (low to mid teens) and send you to the far corner of the map (away from the Atlas gate), I have to agree with Doc Scorpion. The Hollows' regular contacts of Wincott, Julius the Troll et al will be ditched in favor of running endless repeatable missions for the quick and easy payoff.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But players can already do that with Radio mission in King's Row, Steel and Skyway. That is, if they realize they don't have to stay in the Hollows until level 15...

Some players will go for the easy route, as they do now, but others will still want to hang out with Frostfire, Atta and the rest.

If the Hollows spawn groups become reasonable, I might just head in there to check things out. Normally I avoid the Hollows with my lower level characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Right, I'm just thinking most players will go for the easy route, not just some. Not a concern if you mostly solo, of course, but it's more problematic if you PuG.

    XaoGarrent:
    [ QUOTE ]
Actually, you level faster doing good contact missions. Especially ones with AVs or huge [censored] maps. If I start a PuG I usually try to snag a contact or two before starting it, and just run the contact until it's dry. I find people stick with the team longer that way anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Even if that's accurate, it doesn't seem to be the perception on the teams I get invites to.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To the first part, yeah, that is why I tend to form my own teams in the hollows, PuGs tend to be a mess, but it helps alot if you have someone that knows what they are doing and has good leadership. Many people will take the easy route and just go kings row, but I like the hollows, I always hit the hollows and I don't think that will ever change. It's good XP and barring the unfortunate n00b team, it isn't hard to direct a team if you know the lay of the land.

As to the second part, no disagreement there, way too many PuGs I end up on tend to abuse the radio missions, which is why in a little bit I'm hopping on my lvl 40 scrapper and forming a team to run the portal corp arc in PI.

It's funny, I was really looking forward to getting scanner missions in CoH but in hindsight I think they've actually diminished the play experience both because the missions themselves are short and utterly generic (save for foiling the bank/store robbery) and have all but replaced contact missions on virtually every PuG I get invited to.

Players will take the most expedient route if you let them and the devs have given them exactly that in short, repeatable missions. In CoV the problem doesn't seem as acute, perhaps because I both team less villainside and because the newspaper there is integrated into the contact system instead of being an adjunct to it as it is heroside.

I just took hover, the first time, and floated over there. Then, on my way, I got up, made a sandwich, folded my laundry, came back to the computer, and guided my way to the door for the second half of my sluggish flight.

Honestly, anyone who says navigating the Hollows is too hard for low lvl heroes is simply doing it wrong. I'm not sure they should get rewarded for doing so.

As for fixing Boomtown within the next three issues, that'd give them... 15 issues to ignore something that sucked and was ignored by players and devs since it started? I'm sure it will get fixed by I15, but my question is, why did it take that long?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    QFT.

Also, more strike forces? What to compliment the ones we don't do already? The only strike forces I've been able to get anyone to do is the respec ones, villain SFs are pointless, we need new zones and good content in them.

And you are still stuck in the mind set of "I WANT WHAT I WANT AND I WANT IT RIGHT NOW!!!" You are going to have to wait till issue 13 or 14, like the rest of us. What villains needs isn't something you can pull out of a magic hat, it's going to take work, and a good deal of it.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Their adherence to their arbitrary, lack-luster theme is a constant thorn. Their refusal to work on customer requested zones, is another. Their arrogant dismissal (or at least apathetic dismissal) of constantly requested features, is another.

And, their blatant sophistry. Recently, I was told by a Developer: anyone who could've forseen the need or desire for power customization when this game was made must've had access to a crystal ball, blah, blah. Now, this insults my intelligence in many ways. I'm supposed to believe that, despite the fact that the proto-type of this game included full power choice with no ATs AND the original head-honcho was a Champions fan----that at no time during the 3 years of development was there a point when PC was ever raised? Uhuh, yeah.

My memory stretches back to the time when this game was nothing more than a discussion on a forum. Everything was put out publically and ignored.

We have one person to blame for all of this---and he's not the current head of Cryptic.

All of this aside: what we are continuing to be fed is a series of un-imaginative, stale, 'same as everthing else with new skins' content---AND more of the same Arachons crap we've had to deal with since CoV launched. It's frankly astonishing to me that they think any of us would care.

It's absolutely boring and pathetically designed, IMO.

And, as for 'doing something right'. In the beginning, maybe. No longer.

...You're still playing the game so obviously they are doing something right.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What they're "doing right" is having a monopoly on superhero MMORPGs. When CO comes along that will change.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I play it because there are no Anime themed ones, all the Sci Fi ones suck and as far as customization goes CoH still takes the cake. I don't even read "comic books," the only superhero shows I ever watched were Spiderman, Batman Beyond, Static Shock and X-Men due to the Sci-Fi content.

As far as City of Heroes goes when compared to other MMOs in a pure game vs game sense, it's just a damn good game, lets face it, most other MMOs don't even compare in terms of ease of play and replay value. I don't even know why World of Walkcraft even sells, I guess it's all their damn advertising.

    RE: XaoGarrent

I've outlined what I think they should've done over the last 4 years. Most recently in the Power Customization FAQ thread.

Their bottom line: we can't do it.
Mine: fine *stares at CO with wallet in hand*

    nuff said, methinks

    Cal2

    [/ QUOTE ]

So basically what you are asking for is what they can't deliver? Power customization is off limits because it is locked into code, and the way I see it it's still a possibility in the future if they could get enough people devoted to the project over a longer period of time, and a City of Heroes 2 isn't completely out of the question either, and if they made one I wouldn't be surprised if they made it like the Source engine that HL2 uses which is very flexible. They've even made third person shooters with it, and things like side scrollers and RPGs have been proposed to be theoretically possible, surely if there was a CoH2 they would make an engine like that.

...You're still playing the game so obviously they are doing something right.

"Ok, I like this, that is good too, but you should have done this in my opinion." Also like others I wouldn't mind seeing it done to boomtown as well, but at the same time I really like the hollows so I'm happy with this. What I'm saying is, I don't understand how someone can argue with the large majority of "HERE! HAVE A BUTTLOAD OF NEW CRUNK!" The devs are giving us alot of new stuff this issue, and I agree with their shotgun strategy of releasing a bunch of different little and big things mixed together so that everyone gets something they like out of it.

But if you want to be all negative and unhappy, go ahead, I'm going to have fun.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not made unhappy by either an addition or lack thereof in an online game. Disappointment? Disregard? yeah.

Go ahead: accept this nonsense for a real change in this game, if you like. But I offer this warning: if you believe 'staying the course' or 'more of the same' is going to keep players here once CO comes out you are likely to be as shocked as the programmers for this game are going to be.

They had better find ways of doing better. That's all I'm saying.
