Hatched any psychotic plans to kill people today?

Quote:I was more curious why the original statement that triggered this conversation was in error. GG being a racist b|tch is beyond question, and it seems increasingly obvious that racism pervades a not-insignificant fraction of the Titan members. I've encountered three blatant displays of racism just on this site - I haven't really explored the Titan forums.Putting a Korean's name in red is an insult; especially considering the intent. And yes GG knows I am Korean..and yes GG knows the Titan kibun efforts is why I left Titan....
In other words: She is just being a racist b|tch.
It's all good though. Her kibun of me was/is about as effective as the kibun efforts on NCsoft It reflects more on her prejudices/ignorance than anything else.
As for the OP, the abusive parting gift I would leave TJ Kim is an infinitesimally skinnier wallet. Anything else is just being idiotic. -
Then how did s/he error in her statement?

I was always amazed anyone would badge hunt. They are, for the most part, useless baubles (didn't think of the atlas medallion). But now.. now I think it'd be pretty silly trying to cram in as many badges as possible only for them to be taken away en masse after the 30th.
-
I am frankly amazed that anyone is still badge hunting.

Au revoir, Arcana. As I mentioned some years back, your posts were the impetus that drove me to understand numbers and mathematical models at a time when nothing was driving me towards education. That's something a budding engineer will never forget.

Quote:Welcome to the dark side.Vyver, can you, or can you not, express, with complete non-objectivity, the emotional and psychological reasons why someone, in a position such as they may have been, might possibly attempt to create such a scenario, negative or not (such as they absolutely did - if you're saying that they did not, even though they did, you're lying - so, don't even try to say that they didn't)? If you don't answer me with complete agreement to my points it will show just how phony and/or stupid you truly are.
Okay, this is actually fun. -

Quote:Indeed. I'm happy this fact has come to light.Too many generalizations, which I admit I was guilty of too. Both sides of the Titan debate got more or less dragged into a ridiculously over-heated argument by one or two individuals who had no tact. In short, both 'organizations' were judged based on the actions of their most extremist "supporters."

Quote:So.. wait, who said you HAVE to agree that SaveCoH has become a laughing stock of itself? As far as I can tell, all the anti-Titan crowd has done is express their opinion, vigorously and passionately as is expected given that something we all love is about to be ripped to shreds before our eyes. It's the pro-Titan crowd that have called us every name in the book and expressed the opinion that contrary opinions are intrinsically "trolling". It's sad and pitiful that "hope" has transformed to "you're a troll".I don't mind the occasional, "I don't have any hope that the game will continue in some form or anther" opinions. It's demands that I can't have any hope either that irritate me. Feel free to disagree with me all you want. Just, don't demand that I have to agree with you. Especially when it comes to hope.
Hmm, y'know, in a way, this whole situation has serious parallels to the Obama campaign of '08 vs the one in '12. Interesting. -
Quote:This is a very good assessment of the current situation. Kudos. To be fair, most people do. Unfortunately sometimes it's hard to recognise when you're part of a mob and then when it's suggested you might be you act all surprised and go on the defensive.
I personally don't like what a lot of those who fly the SaveCOH banner have become and I don't think they're particularly trustworthy custodians of what the CoH community were supposed to represent. When the SaveCOH movement started it was a way of uniting the understandably disappointed playerbase and to give them a single voice. Unfortunately, as each turn left them with another further disappointment, the tactics employed to try and effect a change of heart just got dirtier and, frankly, more desperate.
I don't know whether the people that are co-ordinating the efforts to save the game officially condone this kind of behaviour, but frankly, I don't think it does them, or us any favours at all.
Whether you agree with AFs posts or not, one thing in that thread became abundantly clear very quickly. There was only one side avoiding the questions and slinging insults, and it certainly wasn't him.
For those of us who don't form part of the highly prolific minority on these boards we see and have seen over the course of the last few years. I think it rather fitting that it should be highlighted in the closing weeks of the game.
Also, damn, I missed all the juicy responses to that thread. :| -
<-- redefined prickishness
In some ways, yes, it's nice to see people exposed for what they are, but I dislike seeing that our "save CoH" movement is being ran by idiots, racists, pontificators, and self-righteous twerps. I'd rather have thought of them as upstanding individuals trying to do a good thing. -
Quote:Clearly not:I find it surprising that they didn't make more of an effort to sell the game... did they really exhaust all options out there?
Quote:[Why can't you just _______________?
If there was a way to make it work, we would make it work. But there is not. We've been through this from all angles, over and over and over. We've shed tears, and we will probably shed some more ... but Glitch is over. -
I regret that I haven't played for the past three years and missed a sizable chunk of the content released during that time.

It wouldn't be much use as a weapon. It would be great for a propulsive mechanism, should negative stress-energy tensors be possible. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that the same theory that says negative mass can't exist is the same theory that is known to be incomplete: general relativity. There are holes in it that remain to be filled. Who knows what will eventually be discovered?

Quote:Oh, it's not a NASA project. They want to test it on the quantum level, as a proof that spacetime can be warped like that in the first place. The trick is extending it to a macroscopic level. They say that current calculations show that the drive would require the energy of about a car. As in, if the mass of a car were converted to energy. That's a lot, but really, they might be able to pare it down to, say, the energy in a coke can or something. That's feasible.
That they're actually planning a conceptual test is pretty cool. I wish the article I found said anything about how far they are from being ready to conduct the lab experiment, assuming NASA has even given the go-ahead. -

Quote:The Alcubierre drive has recently shown promise, which should sidestep the time problem. Some folks are actually wanting to do an experiment on it soon - who knows if it's viable? I accept current scientific wisdom on this subject, but I'm not prepared to make a statement that FTL is impossible or even impractical - only with current technology would I make such a statement. Also, unless there's some way to side-step relativity ala "warp fields" or something, even if FTL travel is possible, and ever feasible enough that we don't need 10 billion tons of fuel to produce enough energy to push a teacup beyond that speed (just think about how expensive and immense the LHC is and that's just for particles at sub-light speeds), the time issue would make it very impractical. We already have enough trouble just with Daylight Savings.

Quote:Delta IV rockets aren't what I was referring to. I was referring to hypersonic aircraft.Delta IV rockets go about 17,000 mph which is about mach 22, a tad bit above mach 5.
Just to add, the sliderule designed SR-71 did mach 3.
Some interesting things start to happen to the flow characteristics in fluids at around Mach 5 that are not present at Mach 3. Notably, the shockwave becomes extremely powerful, turbulence is dominant, and the air becomes chemically unstable. You end up with very unpredictable flow patterns, which can lead to characteristics that make controlled flight very tough.
On the other hand, rockets have blunt noses that are conducive to hypersonic flows. They can have blunt noses because they're either a) strapped to an enormously powerful rocket engine that laughs at the comparatively miniscule drag force; or b) trying to slow down, wherein the blunt nose is a benefit. Aircraft do not enjoy this luxury. They have to be viable at all Mach numbers, and none of them have rockets attached to them. Instead they have what are known as scramjets, and the characteristics of hypersonic flow can induce really interesting vibrational effects throughout the body. Interesting in the same way me hitting your entire body with a gigantic sledge hammer is "interesting".
In short, Bad Things Happen at Machs greater than 5. -
Quote:You nailed it, but of course, it's always possible they're wrong. It was once thought traveling above the speed of sound was impossible. Today the problem is more about how we can travel five times the speed of sound and not crash.Einstein said that? I was under the impression he was the one that said time travel is not only possible, but we are doing it all the time
Also: law of relativity proves we can travel into the future, although not to the past.
I also think he stated if you traveled faster than light you would go back in time, but that there are some gotchas like everything pointing at it not being possible to travel faster than light and even if you managed to make "something" travel faster than light, I doubt it will be a vessel for humans
PS: I suck at physics and never read Eisnsteins stuff. I just love watching Cosmos and Neil Tysons Nova -
Quote:"Unicorns"?I'm shocked that you guys are bothering to acknowledge Brillig and Another_Fan. The "proof" that they are unicorns is in the level of their argument. If they had something more relevant than "did not" and "I know you are but what am I," then they would be somehow worth notice.
