The one thing you blankers seem to forget is that blanking normal content is something that is basically private in nature. (This is true to a certain extent when playing a MA blank mission, as long as you aren't spamming messages for blank teams)
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Putting a blanking mission on the MA system puts your behavior on public display. Sort of like running on field during a Yankees/Red Sox game wearing nothing but your Nikes.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
What may be acceptable behavior in the privacy of your home is not acceptable in other settings
[/ QUOTE ]
Amazing how general that is. I can just as easily substitute roleplaying in there. It even makes better sense -
[ QUOTE ]
When's the last time you tried to find a good (non-farm) mission that hadn't been posted by someone in the forums?
[/ QUOTE ]
This afternoon no problem
[ QUOTE ]
There have been farmers that have admitted to one-starring non-farm missions just to ensure they don't have 5-star ratings. That means non-farm missions stop showing up in the 5-star range after they get a certain number of votes. If you then go to the 4-star missions the first 3 pages are full of Rikit Doll Missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
And just how is this different than the Auteurs taking a dump on farm missions ?
[ QUOTE ]
My use of the MA system doesn't impact the ability of farmers to find a play a farmable missions. The action of the farmers, on the other hand, sure as {$@!} impacts MY ability to find a good, non-farm mission

And tell me about Katie TF? How come that thing gives crap reward ( not even a pool C recipe ) while farming in AE over less time gives better reward?
Broken. It is broken.
[/ QUOTE ]
If I were to start on picking broken things in this game I would never know where to stop.
But on risk/reward first there has to be risk in the game. Currently thre isnt.
[/ QUOTE ]
And that's what merits are about. Time vs reward instead of risk vs reward, because there is no risk in this game.
[/ QUOTE ]
I Agree! In order to add risk to this game, when a player buys CoH it should also come with a new computer chair that is mandatory to sit in in order to play the game. When your toon dies, the chair should deliver a high voltage shock to the player.
This will add risk to the game

I find this idea strangely intriguing. Perhaps it will get me tanking more -

The comedy of Hide with a shield as the tool is something that can't be iverestimated.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
It makes exactly as much sense as regen hide, or for that matter, the powers that shields get that have nothing to do with shields, such as true grit or aoo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then I want a shield stalker that uses a large potted plant for his shield. He could be named creepy office guy -
[ QUOTE ]
Mind explain why doing a Katie TF is not granting one single pool C recipe roll for beating 10 AV and doing more than 1 mission while doing 1 single AE farm gives about 2 pool C reward rolls, and that in less than 30 minutes of play?
Broken. It is broken.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes that is a giant problem. Its right up there that beating same said AV 10 times doesn't even award 1 freaking SO.
The problem is with the katie TF -

In terms of the little known exploit regarding spawn sizes. I think its probably a good idea to remove it. The idea of one person getting the amount of lewt they can from using this exploit is abusive and this is from a devout powergamer.

That should be made an optional slider. -

There were far more complaints about PvP 2.0 and not much was altered by them
[/ QUOTE ]
PvP 2.0, what happens when bad ideas infect your thoughtscape. Oddly enough some are seeing the current crisis as an opportunity to push a new set of bad ideas and set up new scapegoats for the games problems. What comes of it I don't know. I do know I would like to avoid the equivalent of elusivity and diminishing returns in the mission architecht. -
[ QUOTE ]
The solution for this is for the devs to actually make content that meets their "standards" and not shove it off on us.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh god no. You know how long it took for me to find a way to make Positron Fun ?. It wasn't till the whole merits debacle and turning it into a solo race that I got any joy out of the thing.
I don't even want to begin to think about the giant clock fest that is synapse, or citadel "The council couldnt get a new base so just reused the same spot" or those endless tours of the shadow shard. -
[ QUOTE ]
I have a total of 43 plays on my arc in about two weeks. I think I've done pretty well. Of course, I didn't just throw it out there and assume everyone would rush to it, either.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bout the same here. The ironic thing is my story arc is doing better than my ticket/reward/badge oriented mission. -
[ QUOTE ]
Regarding the non-play issue. I'm another person who spent several hours putting together a mission with an actual storyline, only to see it NEVER GET PLAYED because its been forced to the bottom of the list after all the farking farms. That's frustrating, and frustrating = NOT FUN. More reason for me to not renew my subscription to CoH. And I'm not the only one.
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL its another no one is playing my story poster. -
[ QUOTE ]
The problem being, those of us who *don't* like AE farming are paying our $15 a month and are having our fun impacted by you having yours. Tell me, chumley... what makes your fun more important than mine? If what you do frustrates me and causes me to want to pull my hair out, why should I just sit and blindly let you continue to do it?
[/ QUOTE ]
Pardon me ?
Well first of all there seem to one heck of a lot more people that do like AE farming than don't.
But putting aside the tyranny of the mob
Just how are the AE farmers impacting your fun ?
So far I have seen people raise the complaints
1. That people won't play their missions
2. That there is broadcast spam
3. They can't get a regular team
To these I say too bad. Just what made you think you have the right to force people not to speak or play your crap ?
P.S. If you are letting other people "Make you want to pull your hair out" you need to do something about letting others have that much control over your mental state. -
[ QUOTE ]
I did think about making it just hitting each other with rocks. It's still abusive behavior, but not necessarily lethal.
But let's try to strip that out. The argument seems to be that because a certain type of play cannot be entirely prevented, no efforts at all should be made to do so? Farming is being presented as a fait accompli, and that everyone should just give up and accept it. Laws cannot be 100% enforced; therefore, there should be no laws. Anything goes. Anarchy.
I suggest you look up the fallacy of the excluded middle. The devs' inability to do away with all exploits and forms of farming as soon as they arise does not consititute official endorsement or tolerance of same. And if one entirely rejects their authority to say whether it's right or not, because the cold practical fact is they can't stop it entirely, that doesn't mean we should just accept its presence either.
[/ QUOTE ]
What you have done is taken something that you dislike and made it an offense against society. Then you have tacked false arguments to further the point.
Farming does not eqaul abusive behavior. If you dont like broadcasts about farms you can ignore them. Or, you can choose not to go where the farmers aren't.
As to the devs doing away with farming don't hold your breath. Seeing as we now have task forces with attached farms, and the most popular farms have been around for a very long time, I don't think their purposes for those statements are what yours are. -
[ QUOTE ]
Even if it is not a pure code exploit that does not mean it is normal or acceptable that a player in MA can easily have access to several pool C ( Golden Rolls ) for minimal risk/effort while players doing other content in game that is harder or more time-consuming ( TFs ) get less reward. I call that broken.
[/ QUOTE ]
I call that life. Seeing as the this is a game and what parts of it you play are entirely up to you its not a problem. People are playing for what they think is fun. Should base editing grant xp and merits ? Its time consuming and difficult to do well ? -

Everyone relax and wait for the hype to cool down. Don't start asking for the removal of buildings based on two weeks of gameplay with a new issue.
For now:
1. Turn of broadcast.
2. Play in low population zones.
3. Join a frigging SG and a Global Chanel if you want good non AE tems.
4. Take a sedative and actually enjoy it as a game...
If you're this worked up playing a game, I worry about your health in real life.
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny thing is, I keep seeing the people on high levels toons wanting high level teams and staying in atlas...Am I the only one that see's a problem here? Move to founders or PI and eliminate all those low level broadcasts.
[/ QUOTE ]
I actually view that as a plus. Paragon City really needed a spot that felt like Times Square, now it has one. All AP needs to complete the picture is a traffic jam or two, (preferably not of zeus and kronos titans again) -

My Superteam Fire/Rad Troller is stuck just shy of 40 because the team itself went poof. Without it, she's wiiiiiimpy

Respec that is easily one of the most powerful combos in the game. -
[ QUOTE ]
If that is the best you can come up with, I'm afraid that's not good enough to warrant a calculated response. My original response stands.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am funny in my goals I seek honest responses to honest positions. If I do dig up the designer of chess I'll ask him to have Demosthenes, ring me up about this.
[ QUOTE ]
None of the first four even have reward systems within the same context as the ones being discussed, so they are completely inapplicable.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually Monopoly is quite germane. That aside the point still stands, The players should know what the rules are. If you wanted to limit it to MMOS almost all do not require human judgment in the handing out of rewards.
Currently what we have Is random arbitrary and shows little judgment. Witness the takedown of arcs with farm in the name or description that were anything but. We also have random reaction and ongoing whittling away of MA features.
Judgment in this context is nothing more than arbitrary interpretation, it does no one any good in a game. -

However, I'll bet anything if someone figured out how to earn 100 merits per minute, the devs would drop a hammer on that activity even if the averages for that activity were fine. But I can't say what the lower limit is: that's where judgement comes in.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes that was my point though no judgment needed. Just tell people what the acceptable limits are. Then instead of punishing content punish rewards.
Currently what we have are the equivalent of unpublished speed limits with random penalties and group retaliation. You did 51 in a 40 zone, we are going to burn your cul de sac to the ground and build a mini mall.
[/ QUOTE ]
I understand your point, which is that in your opinion everything should just be precisely defined. My point is that no game designer would hold themselves to that limitation, and the merit system is an example of that. You quoted the merit system first, and implied that it was a system where judgement isn't used. I'm saying it is used. Simply stating that its not necessary isn't an argument, its simply redeclaring your position. The merit system doesn't actually support your position, which is why I question your mentioning it.
[/ QUOTE ]
That wasn't my point, My point is games have rules and the people playing them should be able to know them, also action against rule breakers should be limited to the rulebreakers not the game as a whole. Any other system becomes little more than whim and personal opinion
[ QUOTE ]
My point is that no game designer would hold themselves to that limitation

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that. The merit system is actually one of the things I was specifically thinking about when I made the statement above: the merit awards are based on averages, not maximum limits. There is no penalty or enforcement of a merit per minute maximum earning limit. If you run TFs faster than average, you'll earn merits faster than average.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why have judgement come into play at all ? The call is made initially at what is the acceptable earning rate for a mission, if its avg is too high it has a deflator factor in its earnings rate. after that it can escalate as needed. -
[ QUOTE ]
The only way to fix this is to make the world dynamic, to make the results of players' actions in the world persistent.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seeing as COX keeps kind of sorta tilting in that direction ever since arena and villains, it would be nice if the devs would man up and cross the divide.
Ultimate Scrapper: Come on guys we have to go rescue statesman

You know what kills me about people who think farmers are the devil ?
They will laugh at someone who has spent months leveling their first character to 50 only to realize that they have made bad powerchoices and it will never be a solid performer.
While I'd hate to see anyone PLed to 50 on their first toon (I have and the results dont look good), after you have done the first 50 starting at 20 should be an option. Just how many times do you want to watch the same frostfire cutscene ? Especially with the guy who just came over from WoW and is trying to buddy up with the H3310r
